High-end international travellers have concluded that British Airways is the best airline in the world.
The British flag carrier has emerged as the top choice in a survey of 13,653 travellers, as part of a comprehensive study of today's travel market. Global Traveller magazine surveyed its readers between February and August last year and the results have now been published in the January edition.
Emirates has scooped the award for the best first class services and Asiana Airlines has emerged as the top performer in terms of onboard service and flight attendants.

How many of the voters have traveled in BA's World Economy?

Not class leading in leg room
Pretty crummy old seats
Confusing baggage rules
Little opportunity to earn real miles
No AVOD
No Electronic Games
Pretty Bad food - On long haul flights the second meal usually consists of little more than a bacon in stale bread.
Served by the living hell that is Heathrow

On a completely separate point and obviously in no connection with any award, I wonder how much BA spends on advertising with the said magazine?

Other awards include the best business city, which went to Malaysia

Yes, I'd like to take a nice trip to the city of Malaysia. ;)

And did anyone notice that Park Hyatt is the best hotel chain. Apparently they have "stunning offerings in Beijing." Too bad they won't let normal people stay there...it doesn't open till the summer at earliest!

and the best hotel in Europe is in Helsinki, yes this is supposedly a great hotel - but I find it hard to believe a survey of 13000 or so people would identify a hotel in Helsinki of all places as number 1. If you look at the award list there is no mention of this hotel though and they claim the best hotel in Europe to be one in Istanbul.

The artcle that the OP refers to is actually pretty crap - it clames Seoul's Airport won the award for best Airport - it was in fact Changi in Singapore.

Other strange awards / gems

Best Airline for Premium Economy Class
United Airlines-Economy Plus

Best Airline for Onboard Service and Flight Attendants
Asiana Airlines

Best Airline in Mexico
Mexicana Airlines

Best Airline in Central/South America
Varig Brazilian Airlines

Best Airline in Canada

Best Trans-Atlantic Airline
Air France

Best Airport Lounges
United Airlines-Red Carpet

Best Airline Alliance
SkyTeam

Best International Hotel Chain
Park Hyatt

Best Asian Hotel Chain

Best European Hotel Chain

No mention of Four Sesaons, Shangri La, Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, Cathay Pacific

And now I know why I hate these awards - utter bollocks

Maybe the best value oriented prem. econ. So I guess I can live with it

Best Airline for Onboard Service and Flight Attendants
Asiana Airlines
Tried Asiana, and their onboard service is excellent. I can also think other airlines that has onboard service equally excellent, but I don't disagree with this.

Best Airline in Mexico
Mexicana Airlines
No experience flying Mexican airlines, so I'll have to pass on this

Best Airline in Central/South America
Varig Brazilian Airlines
Now, WHAT? Varig? How in the world Varig the best airline in central/south america? Enough said:td: :td:

Best Airline in Canada
Air Canada *
Any legacy carrier other than Air Canada?

Best Trans-Atlantic Airline
Air France
I like TATL flight on SQ as much as I enjoy transpac flight on SQ.

Best Airport Lounges
United Airlines-Red Carpet
RCC? What were they smoking? I like CO PC 100 times more than RCC even in the US. Internationally, I won't even comment :td: :td:

Best Airline Alliance
SkyTeam
To some, but I'm surprised that it's not *A or OW

Best International Hotel Chain
Park Hyatt
RC or FS not good enough?

Best Asian Hotel Chain
Grand Hyatt
Gotta be MO or PEN

This is insane...

The only thing I can think of is that those people asked actually work for those awarded companies or that this survey got sponsored by them...

It's just more than obvious that those people don't know what they are talking about:td:

LHR ground handling alone should disqualify BA from these kinds of awards... this is totally insane. :td:

Where's CX, SQ, JL, QF? Where's HKG, AMS, DTW? Where's... ah, never mind.
