Delta SkyMiles (Pre-WorldPerks Merger) [closed to posting] - Silver Medallion and redeeming ticket
Hello everybody,
my wife just got promoted to Silver Medallion status after all her travels
in 2006. From what I read, she will keep this status until Feb 28 2008.
Let me know if this is not correct.
Our question is, if she goes ahead and redeems her miles for a roundtrip
ticket in the US (25,000 miles), her Silver status will not be affected by this
right? (i.e. if her accumulated miles drop below 25000 she will still remain
at Silver status until Feb 2008).
We just wanted to make sure before we go ahead and look into redeeming
the flight.

Nope. The number of miles you have in your account has no affect on your Medallion status. It's the number of miles you fly in one calendar year.

Right. Accumulated miles have no effect on your skymiles status. You don't need to maintain a balance for any level. It is simply based upon the MQM's earned during the calendar year.

if she goes ahead and redeems her miles for a roundtrip ticket in the U.S., her 2007 (current year) FO status is not be affected by this redemption BUT here's the rub...
she will not accrue any NEW MQMs toward her 2008 status (or even miles for that matter). So, if she was counting on this upcoming trip for accruing additional MQMs for 2008 FO status, it doesn't matter if she flies from ATL to GSP or from FL to AK in either case ZERO (0) miles would post toward her 2008 MQM status even though she was in the seat for all that air time. It sometimes makes it a tough decision to burn those miles on free tix when you're at the same time trying to accrue MQMs for next year's status.

Exactly. Reward tickets net you no MQMs, nor do they net you any RDMs (unless you get an agent that doesn't know how to do a SDC properly, and when you do your SDC, you go from an N class award ticket to a full Y ticket, getting the bonus MQMs and RDMs and an upgrade to F to boot - just a small part of the reason that Dec. 2, 2006 was probably the best day of my 21 years of life so far).
