Hertz - Price increase?

Has anyone noticed that rental rates (per day) have nearly doubled in some markets? I've been looking at getting a rental in YVR for a weekend at the end of January, and it has gone from $30/day to about $50/day. Same in Calgary for the end of Feb.

Yet at EWR, during weekdays,the rate has stayed the same...

Depending on the city and the discount code, I've noticed daily rates to be very high compared to what I think should be reasonable. On one east coast city, I was quoted something like $67/day for a standard car on a daily rate - the same car was about $180 for 8 days. I'm renting one this week from a HLE location (dropping it at a major airport): total rental is about $41.00, including taxes... I save 20+% on airport fees alone.

I'm seeing the same and even a bit cheaper for what I'm booking. I think it just matters where you're looking and whatever else is going on at the same time.
