7 out of the 17 crew members were found to be trying to fly the plane while being under the influence of alcohol.

They have been detained and new crew is being flown in. New departure time at 10pm local time.

My comment:

According to people I know who has flown with these planes, it is quite common that the crew is drinking vodka during the flight.

One nato general told me about an incident where several failed attempts of landings at a mountain airstrip in ukraine which was also way too short for the plane was aborted in the end (crew was determined to land despite what the tower told them) eventually disappeared in to the clouds and decided to land somewhere else. Where - the story never told.

It appears most Russians are enjoying an Extended Winter Holiday. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/08/world/europe/08russia.html) I think I will stay clear of any and all for a while.
