Starwood Preferred Guest - Booked at airport desk, no points allowed

I was at the Amsterdam airport on Monday, stranded due to high loads on the flights. In the baggage area, there was a kiosk for finding hotels and such. I went ahead and asked them about airport hotels and they showed me an offer at the Sheraton right at the airport. 195euros for the night. I took it.

Today, I log into spg and they said I only got 18 points for the stay, basically credit for the internet access I bought. I emailed and they said the rate wasn't eligible for points. I check the starwood site, and find they offer the exact same room tonight at 190euros, so I wasn't getting any special discount or deal off their website pricing.

Is there any way to fight this and possibly get some credit for the night? I saw another thread on distressed passenger rate where someone paid $70 for a room he found for substantialy more, and in my case, there isn't a huge difference in price. If anything, I paid more.

I will definately take the advice from that thread and try to see if I can get online and check the website before booking via a booking desk at the airport going forward.

I'm not sure why the airport desk wouldn't earn credit, unless the airport desk simply logged onto some third party website and booked the hotel for you as asiarooms, expedia, etc. Did the hotel explain why booking through the airpoort desk wouldn't earn you credit/points?

Do you have a hotel bill? Fax it to 519-633-8557 and let Program Services do the research.

I did hear back from someone at spg (Esther F.) and they said it won't count as a night either. I'll dig the bill out and fax it in.

I don't rack up tons of nights at SPG, but I'm not too impressed with this.. My SPG Amex renewed this month, but this will probably be the last time based on this experience.
