Starwood Preferred Guest - Booking suites not possible thru SPG.com any more?

I browsed some hotels for a vacation in March and a business trip end of January (St Regis properties) -- and noticed that NO SUITES showed up on SPG.com anywhere, even when sorting "From hi to low". I then tried some other hotels and dates... zilch!

I'm aware that president suites etc are available only upon direct request -- but at least jr and standard suites have been available over SPG.com in the past.

Could it be that this is bc of all the discussions of Plats while checking in, pointing out that some suite is available and that they should be upgraded?

Maybe I'm paranoid, though.

Maybe? ;)

It all depends upon what an individual property wants to offer online. FWIW, a lot of hotels prevent the Customer Contact Center from booking suites at their properties. They prefer to sell them in-house only for whatever reason.

I never looked at it as being a conspiracy, however. Maybe I should. :)

A tip for finding suites is to increase the number of people in the room.

For example, at the Le Meridien Khao Lak if you put 4/5 people per room it will populate the Royal Suite, Deluxe villas, etc. I have found this works at other hotels too.

Wow, that really works. Thanks. Miraculously suites are appearing when I select "4 adults per room". But strange, isn't it. Why is the system hiding suites from couples?

And thanks to Lurker as well for your fast reply!

It is annoying. the other thing is that by selecting more individuals in a room, it does (sometimes) raise the cost on the room as a whole. I wonder how much you would save by paying for a suite with two adults as opposed to a suite with four adults?

Hmmm. Just tried that and it worked. That is cool. Now us Plats can find out a little more about the upgrades that we did not get.
