Take your togs or cossies, your esky packed with amber fluid and maybe a dog's eye for a snack. Bend the elbow too much? Stop off for a long black, a short black or a flat white to make sure you don't end up a few kangaroos (roos) loose in the top paddock.
Translation: Take your swimwear and cooler box full of beer and a meat pie to eat. A bit too much to drink? Have a small or large black espresso coffee or a white coffee to make sure you are fully compos mentis when you get home.
Dog's eye? NEVER heard that one, but then maybe it's not in the vocab of us Mexicans. Ask a banana bender or a crow-eater and see if they eat dog's eyes. :D

You've never heard of rhyming slang??
Then you need to look at this Australian slang dictionary (http://www.koalanet.com.au/australian-slang.html), or a better one here (http://www.australiatravelsearch.com.au/trc/slang.html).
Once you get the hang of it, get to this rhyming slang page (http://www.businessballs.com/cockney.htm#australian%20rhyming%20slang) and start rhyming away.
Quick one: For those who enjoy cricket, I hope either Shane Warne or Glenn McGrath (or both) get a Michelle against the Poms in the 5th Test

The short answer is:
New South Wales,
Victoria,
Tasmania.
Australian Capital Territory,
South Australia,
Western Australia,
Northern Territory, &
Australian Antartic Territories.
Thay probably covers it!
Oops almost forgot the obvious,
Queensland. :D

I've never heard of a dog's eye here in Victoria.
The rest made perfect sense. I don't even think it really qualifies as "strine".

Sandgropers have been known to use the term. Should have been some dead horse on the dog's eye.

I grew up in Adelaide and I remember always stopping by the Pie Floater truck outside the GPO at night after a long day at the beach.
Is it still operating and do they sell pie floaters anywhere else in the world?
A pie floater is a Balfour Meat Pie covered in hot mushy peas topped with heinz tomato sauce (yummy!)

davistev, have you been to this Aussie pie shop in WA (http://www.australianpieco.com/directions.shtml)?
Maybe other readers can let us know if these places are operating and OK...
AZ (http://www.mojopies.com/tobuy.html)
GA (http://www.australianbakery.com/)
NY (http://www.eightmilecreek.com/)
WA (http://www.australianpieco.com/directions.shtml)
UK and Portugal (http://www.jumbucks.co.uk/)
Has anyone tried a pie at Eight Mile Creek (http://events.nytimes.com/mem/nycreview.html?res=9B03E4D61F3BF931A25752C0A9669C8 B63)? We were very tempted at the time, but SoHo has so many temptations! :)

I too grew up in Adelaide and held the un-official pie floater eating record with David Day from nearby 5KA in Franklin Street.
We went on a big before his on-air shift one night and he ate 7 and I somehow got through EIGHT. ;)
It was the epitome of the Australian lack of social strata. At 1am you'd be standing up eating a floater alongside a few heavily tattooed bikies, a couple of aboriginals and folks in evening dress coming back from a government ball or whatever. Aall chating along happily.
Yes they are still in ADL. MargoOz and I went for search for the caravans a few months back. Even a cabbie had no idea what we were talking about. We found one outside the casino/railway station in North Terrace. The GPO one (Franklin Street) still operates weekends.
The Casino one is pretty sad as the bowl was paper or cardboard now. Very yuppie. The GPO one had the old fashioned glass bowl IIRC.
And a gentle correction -
A pie floater is a Balfour Meat Pie covered in hot mushy peas topped with Heinz tomato sauce
It is and always was a huge bowl of green split pea into WHICH was dropped the pie. ;)
And of course there days, a 'meat' pie is just part of the act - about 10 flavors/variations are possible.
And please no-one visiting Sydney should neglect a visit to THIS place if you like pie floaters!
Clearly someone who has never actually been here? ;)
No-one in this country actually drinks this stuff. In fact I bet it is hard to find in some pubs.
