GLBT Travelers - Do you ever get treated worse when traveling as a GLBT couple?

I notice this. I will sometimes get treated better by myself or other couples around us will be treated better. Notice this mostly in restaurants. I will have a great time with staff by myself when on the road and when we return as a couple things change, even with the same staff, and they seem less attentive and socialable. Of course most restaurants are perfect but the ones that stand out in my head are the exception. Someone once tried to explain it to me because I travel by myself on weekdays and we may go out as a couple to the same place on weekends.

In general, as a couple we've been treated really well. Most of the time, everyone from front desk staff to waitpersons to flight attendants have given us extra special treatment for being "tribe" members.
But I also have been in the situation as the OP describes and had better treatment on my own than when my partner is with me. It could be they don't want to be so friendly that it is taken as flirting -- or maybe I am (and the OP is as well) giving off vibes that is causing less than great service.
But most of the time the couple thing has gotten us benefits from room upgrades to to free stuff.

I think sometimes it can be attributed to jealousy. You know the old adage, "how can he be with him?"... or "he does not deserve to be with him.. " Or that my BF gets the better treatment than me or vice versa.
Maybe I'm oblivious most of the time, but I find that for the most part, my BF and I have been treated well almost everywhere we have gone..

I haven't noticed it good or bad since the bf and I rarely travel together but I will try to report in late Feb when we get back from ORD. We are going out that way for Coffee Fest and our 9 year anniversary. On the request form for the hotel I asked for a room with a view noting that it was our anniversary. Didn't say on the form though that we were a same sex couple. But knowing the city we shouldn't get too much since well folk out there rock!

It might be better to tell them you are a same-sex couple. Otherwise you would get "his" and "hers" amenities :D instead of "his" and "his" or "hers" and "hers" amenities.
Slightly OT, if you belong to the Leaders Club (which is pretty much useless IMHO) of the Leading Hotels of the World, they even have a "gay/lesbian" option to check on your preferences profile. This profile gets sent to the hotel before your arrival.

I might want to add most of my bad experiences were in Orange County California where the large breasted female staff appear to count on large tips from straight sugar daddies that frequent the restaurants.

I have two friends one straight one gay who live in the OC and both have told me that over all the OC isn't too gay friendly in general :( But that is just their opinion. I am sure that experiences differ from person to person.
