Taiwaned

I just got an email from the foks at Toshiba that my Toshiba A50 Satellite laptop has one of those "hot" Sony batteries.
I purchased my computer in Vancouver, BC. Canada. Now that I live in Taiwan, can I get it replaced here? I have phoned the local Toshiba office but I can't speak Chinese well enough to get my point across. Would that mean I need to send it to Vancouver to get this replaced?
