Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Would you travel to Fiji over Christmas???

We've got a holiday to Fiji planned over Christmas and I followed the developments over there for the last 4 weeks. Lately it's been very quiet but I'm still not sure whether we should go or not. We're heading to the Westin Denauru, so it's not a remote island but very close to the main island off Nadi. I probably wouldn't be that concerned if it was an outer island resort.

The other problem is that we have two nights in Nadi at the Mercure hotel, so we will actually spend some time in town as well. I know that noone can predict what's going to happen in the future but it appears that people didn't cancel thei holiday plans over Christmas because the NZ flight from AKL to NAN is showing no seats in economy class. Also, I was thinking that as important as watching his boys playing Rugby to postpone the coup the new dictator might also like to spend a peaceful Christmas with his family and doesn't worry too much about the coup or anything else. :(

I would go for sure. I would keep away from Suva but I think Nadi would be fine and any Island even the coral coast would be fine. Go and have a good time if there is any problems start a game of touch footy and they will forget what all the fuss was about. ^

The Indian Fijians want this coup to happen but the Native Fijians support the PM and the end of the day most native Fijians would rather play Rugby and have a relax than get hostile towards people

I'd love to be there. Have a good trip.
Christmas should be a lovely time to be in Fiji, notwithstanding what has happened.

Oh course!!!! Denarau will be fine, but I'd try to go to an outer island just beacuse they are so beautiful & truly Fijian.
