Las Vegas newbie here, been there once. Now I'm getting these promo emails offering free rooms on certain days and what not. They sound like a great deal but when I read the fine print, it says something to the effect that these are based on play. Can anyone tell me more about these free nights? Do I have to gamble a certain amount or otherwise I'd be charged for the room? Thanks!

Most marketing offers for free rooms do NOT require any (minimum) play during your current stay; they are based on your PAST PLAY. That being said, it is difficult to tell if you don't give more details. I know of some offers (Venetian comes to mind) in which you are required to have a certain amount of play (hours or coin-in) and others (Harrahs) which are free even if you don't play at all. Best bet, just call up and ask (using the number given with the offer) --- or possibly post a bit more information about the offer (i.e. which casino property); the wording for the offer "these are based on play" is a bit vague.

In general, it is always best to check and double check (and keep detailed notes/records) any comp or promtional offers that you are going to accept; since rules and terms change all the time.

Thanks for the reply Bac. I figured I'd try flyertalk first since there are so many well versed travelers on here. I'll probably call the properties to get the specific details like you recommended, if I decide to take up on any offers. I probably don't have to worry about meeting the minimum play at their casinos if there is one...LOL I'll just end up losing lots and having a blast. :D

Like baccarat_king, The Venetian is the only one I've heard of that will try to charge you if you don't put in enough play. Everyone else is willing to just take the chance, which, it seems to me, is the right way to do it.

Does anyone know if these offers are profiled by age as well as play?

We played very little at the Wynn about 2 years ago and got an offer in the mail for 3 free nights about 6 months later. Wish I could have used it during the dates they offered us. 6 months later we got another offer for great rates for their rooms. We just got back, had a great time. This is how the casinos get you in and they hope you spend some money during your stay.

Must be at least 21. Though I haven't heard of them using age in casino offers, if they aren't, I would expect them to eventually start doing so.

I signed up for a Stratosphere players card a few years ago and only gambled there for a few minutes. A few months later I got a offer for two free weekend or four free weeknights - mostly unrestricted. Aslo had a bunch of drink, tower and other coupons attached. A room is a room to me in Vegas, so I combined it with a free air ticket and had three nights in Vegas for something like $12 (before gambling). I still did not gamble at the Strat since I don't like their weird table game rules, but they did not try to charge me. The offers have since stopped coming though.

Got a flyer in the mail for 2 Free Room Nights at the Tropicana for Feb. and March. In the small print is says "Complimentary rooms are offered as a courtesy based upon your expected level of play." "Your comp account will be charged a nominal room rate each night in the hotel."

Can someone help me out? Is this a good deal or not? Myself and some friends plan on a Vegas trip probably Friday 2/9/07 to Monday 2/12/07 and trying to save some $$$ (more money to gamble with).

Thanks.

In the small print is says "Complimentary rooms are offered as a courtesy based upon your expected level of play."
I'd translate this as "as long as you play some, we won't get upset. If you don't gamble at all and there are extenuating circumstances, there's a small chance we might complain to you."

But I really wouldn't worry about it. The Venetian is the only casino that I have heard of trying to nickle and dime people - especially those who are lucky enough to win. I don't think you have to worry about the Trop trying to charge you for the rooms.

"Your comp account will be charged a nominal room rate each night in the hotel."
This just means that before you go asking to have meals, massages and show tickets comped, you have to "earn" enough comps to pay for your free room.

For example, if you earn $100 in comps but and they charge $75 against your comp account for the free room, they'll comp you another $25 of stuff (if you ask). But if you only earn $25 of comps during your trip, they aren't going to comp you anything beyond the free rooms that you've already gotten.

This is a "good deal" if your criteria is "free hotel room." Unless you have a better deal available, you should take it.
