I will be buying a big screen TV soon and was wondering if anyone had discovered some great offer like 10FF miles per dollar spent for a purchase like this. It could either be a specific airline connection or a credit card connection where the miles might be used with several airlines. I would hate to dole out the $ for the TV and learn afterward that I missed a great offer.

I have not seen 10 miles per $ - but you should be able to manage at least 2 or 3 plus whatever you get on your credit card.

Start with with one of the airline shopping malls (e.g. Worldperks or American Advantage). Many airlines have them

For example: http://www.aadvantageeshopping.com/index.jsp?cat=1

Select a merchant and take it from there.

Hint: Consider joining the Panasonic Club (free) which offers 10% off your first purchase and for a limited time is offering free delivery and some additional discounts.

Good hunting

I haven't looked closely, but CO is offering 10 miles/$ to the Target.com site. If you can find the TV you want there, that would be an option.:)

I just purchased a small LCD Tv (23") on the target.com site using the CO mall at 10/$.

They have a pretty good selection, but I really didn't look at the larger models.

Thanks, everybody. Very helpful. Since Target doesn't have what I'm looking for I'm thinking of going through AAdvantage and Circuit City where I can get 4x the dollar amount. If anyone sees anything better, please let me know.

Just to mess with yer head a bit :D , here's another scenario: (NWA kids will love it !)

Pick out a nice unit at tigerdirect.com for say $2950 all in.
Via the NWA mall, purchase 58 SuperCertificates @ $50 ea (2x$ = 5800 mi + 290 Safari points)
Trade your SCerts for tigerdirect gift cards ($500/$250/$100 as needed) (no points)
via the NWA mall. buy your TV with the gift cards & a little cash (2x$ = 5900 miles + 5 Safari points)
via the NWA mall, hit RadioShack.com for $50+ for the wall mount/cables (2x = 100mi + 5 Safari points)

300 Safari points = 10,000 mi.
Run all the above thru your WP-VISA forthe 5000mi bonus (http://www.nwa.com/offers/wpvisaholiday2006/).
Comes to ... ummm... 26,700 or so ?

For those who haven't done it yet, WP University 102 (http://www.nwa.com/features/wpu2/) ads another 1100.

squawk7500, very creative and worth doing but can you believe that tigerdirect does not have my desired LCD either? But the site and the strategy are worth keeping in mind for other items. You deserve a big ^ for epitomizing the FT spirit and dedication to finding convoluted but effective ways to accrue the most FF miles.

CO is offering 5 mi/$ at circuit City. Personally, I'd find the best possible price and then purchase at Sears via your favorite airline site. Do in-store pickup and price match on arrival. They're usually way more expensive and give you 110% of the difference back.

I think this would work generally but can you believe that Circuit City, Best Buy and Sears all have the same price for the TV I'm seeking? I guess they are all checking each other out for the Christmas sales and matching. So I guess my decision as of now is whether I want 10K AA miles or 12500 CO miles. In any case, everyone has helped me find out about my options. Thanks.

YMMV, but when I've purchased from sears.com the in-store mgr has price-matched the lowest internet price I could find, not just B&M. Caveat: you have to purchase on sears.com for them to match other .com's. BTW: I did this some years back with major appliances... at the time, Sears had high prices (GE stuff) and a rebate. The did the 110% match before rebate against a .com selling the same stuff for about 1/2 of what Sears was selling for. It worked out quite nicely.

Webflyer's Mileage Mall site is the best place I've found to see the "landscape" of shopping to earn miles, especially bonuses:
