Just wanted to know -- hows the experience in picking up a rental from there reserved online using Hertz Gold #1?
Thanks for your comments/opinions in advance.

I'm in DTW probably 4-5x/year and my Hertz experience there is good. I'm 5* and get an upgraded vehicle probably 50% of the time.
Keep in mind that the rental car facility is probably 8min bus ride from the terminal if you are coming into the NW WorldGateway, but would be less from the older terminals.

I would be coming in at the Smith Terminal which is closer to the rental location than the McNamara terminal which is a good ways away.
Oh and I forgot to mention in my OP that I will be coming to DTW in January on the weekend of the 11-15th.
Keep the comments and opinions coming. I need to be confident for when I go to DTW and pick up my rental Toyota Camry (do they have the newer Camrys there yet or are they still the 2006 models?)

I rent from DTW between 3-5x per month and would classify it as an "average" place. They do hand out upgrades like no other location ive been to, but some cars tend to be a little dirty, especially in the winter. Bus service is amazingly quick, especially from the Smith Terminal. Employees are fairly helpful with the exception of the latenight return crew, which I tend to avoid at all costs (Although this seems to be an industry standard). Im not sure where you are coming from, but I would be fairly cautious in a Camry in January here, ive already had to turn on the 4WD in my Suburban

If you are referring to yesterday, I don't think I've seen roads so bad (in middle Oakland County) with so little snow on the ground in a LONG time. Traffic was at a crawl, and what do you know, I can't stop, my ABS is pumping but I keep going, and go careening into a boulder in my brand new car.

Yep, I had the 07' Suburban with stabilatrack and 4x4 on high and I almost didn't get the small incline on my driveway. My son was driving a Trailblazer with AWD and stabilatrack and managed to fishtail and slide into the curb at the Homewood Suites in Brighton, of course he insisted he was only going 5 mph or so

I am coming from Alberta, Canada. So I'll have some winter driving under my belt, having lived here all 34+ years of my life here in Alberta, Canada!

I rent at DTW (my hometown.. got smart enough to move away from the cold to ATL) 3-4 x a year. I've had very bad experiences (Shuttle bus never showing and another rental company offering to drop me off at Hertz, Drivers swearing at customers, Cars not being clean, cars not being ready, cars not starting, cars being covered with snow). And very good experiences (Car ready, running, heat on, and a GREAT upgrade). I have noticed that they've gotten better in the past year, I was told the management changed at the location.
Let us know how they do for you.

I've found DTW better than PHL in terms of service and helpfulness. No surliness there. I've gotten a 07 Camry on a recent (2 mos ago) rental for a Compact. I am a Five Star.
