For flights after Jan 7 (I believe), the tax is tacked onto your airfare. But before that, yes, it's still $14.

I've heard that as of a few days ago, this was already the case in SGN.

I suppose it could have something to do with when your ticket was issued...

I got my previous info from reading the board of a travel agent yesterday.

I did find this:

If you buy your ticket now, the departure tax is included. If you bought your ticket prior to 11/1, you'll need to pay for your departure tax ($14 at both Hanoi and HCMC) before you check in.

My travel agent told me I had to pay at the airport, but the ticket was issued on 24 November. There is a Tax/Fee/Charge of VND 226,000 which I suspect maybe the departure tax. I will let you know what happens at HAN.

That is your departure tax charge. Many travel agents aren't aware of the change in the policy.

Just back from HCMC, tix bought/issued early Nov, entered 26th of Nov and exited 30th, no departure tax.

My travel agent was wrong. Departure tax was already paid. Should be marked JCQ on the ticket.
