Any opinions would be appreciated! Headed there for the Bowl Formerly Known as Peach at the end of December and we would like to stay at the most convenient Marriott-branded hotel to:
MARTA
Bars
Restaurants (mid-range to lower end :)
Considering the following:
Courtyard Midtown/GT - 1132 Techwood Dr
Residence Inn Midtown Historic - 1041 W Peachtree St
Marriott Suites Midtown - 35 14th St NE
Residence Inn Midtown/17th St - 1365 Peachtree St
THANKS!

I really like the Marriott Suites on 14th. They normally offer a package at the same rate as the weekend rate that includes parking $16 and breakfast for 2 $26+ when available.
In comparison with the others you get Marriott beds, separate bedroom, 2 TVs, balcony and indoor pool. If you get a package with breakfast it is much upgraded (fresh prepared with omelet crepe station with chef) over Residence Inn's. If light breakfast desired get a good rate and there is a popular bagel place right next door to Marriott Suites and many popular restaurants in walking distance.
While you do get free Internet at the limited service properties the price difference doesn't really make it worth 'downgrading'.
The Courtyard could be said to be on the wrong side of 75/85 for midtown but you do now have Atlantic Center over there.

Noticed that the HPR rate was available for one free night with 3 or more nights including Saturday the 30th of December.
Atlanta does have the Falcons at home the 1st and then the Sugar Bowl on the 2nd though so better book now for sure.

Since I live in ATL, I have not stayed in any of these properties, but I am familiar with the neighborhoods:
Courtyard Midtown/GT - 1132 Techwood Dr - Forget it. It is on the "wrong" side of the I-75/85 freeway to be convenient to anything - at least on foot.
Residence Inn Midtown Historic - 1041 W Peachtree St - Good choice for Midtown and near the 10th St. MARTA station.
Marriott Suites Midtown - 35 14th St NE - Probably the nicest hotel of the ones you listed. It is a just a few blocks from the Arts Center MARTA station.
Residence Inn Midtown/17th St - 1365 Peachtree St - This property abuts a very nice residential neighborhood but you are starting to get away from MARTA and the nightlife.
You seemed to be focusing on Midtown, but other hotels that are near MARTA/restaurants/nightlife would be in Buckhead. Two of them that are particularly close to MARTA are the Courtyard Buckhead and the JW Marriott at Lenox. The Courtyard would be right in the Buckhead cluster of bars.

How is the Atlanta Marriott Downtown at 160 Spring Street NW? Is this a safe part of town? Near restaurants? I was told to stay at a Courtyard at 175 Piedmont, but it's a Wyndham now. I know this is not the Wyndham forum, but can anyone compare the 2 hotels? Thanks!

Never stayed here, even though my office is next door. It's hard to describe this property and its environs, but I think grimy is a good way to put it. I'm sure that before it was reflagged the rooms were refreshed, and it's probably quite decent on the inside, but for me, the walk from the Marquis, or the longer walk from the Renaissance, or the MARTA ride from the Midtown Suites were all worth it.

I was looking on TripAdvisor and they posted pictures, that look decent, NYC size rooms (smallish).. but there seems to be a decent work out center and nice lounge on the top floor.

It looks like the cleaned it up...I was happy to hear "Very Friendly Tanya in Concierge Lounge on Morning" Nice hope that they recognize Platinum. Staying there in 2 weeks for a conference, so will report back.

The Residence Inn (1041 West Peachtree Street) is a good hotel in Midtown ATL with walking distance to the Marta Station. There's a restaurant across the street (actually in the back of the hotel) called Cherry's.
The Marriott Midtown Suites (on 14th Street) is a great hotel. Their rooms have a bedroom with French doors separate from the living room. There are 2 tvs in each room, a mini fridge, separate bathroom and shower stall, as well as access to the balcony. They have a great buffet breakfast.
I would recommend either one of these Marriotts in Midtown.

Staying there in 2 weeks for a conference, so will report back.I did stay here twice, one week in Dec 06 and one week in Jan 07. I had no complaints, I used taxis and they were easy to get from this hotel. I felt safe and the rooms were quite nice as was the Concierge Lounge. I ate in the resturant and the steak salad is awesome!!! I'd stay here again.
