Northwest WorldPerks (Discontinued Program) - Visa Signature 6000 award ticket code hassle

Just a warning to others: NWA WorldPerks is the right place to call if you don't have your Visa Signature E-Cert # for the 6000 mile award ticket discount, but they don't know it.

Yesterday morning, I was looking for my discount code, since I don't believe I ever received it. I called NWA WorldPerks (25 minute wait), and the guy on the other end said I needed to call the Visa people. I talked to 2 different Visa people (each about a 15 minute wait), and both said I needed to call NWA. I called NWA WorldPerks again (15 minute wait), and was told again to call Visa to ask. Explaining the situation and that I didn't want to call Visa again, the helpful agent went to ask her supervisor. Within 10 seconds I had my code #

Moral of the story: if you need the e-cert number, just call NWA and ask for a supervisor

(Unfortunately, I wanted the # to be able to book an Alaska Air flight using my NWA miles; turns out, the discount is only good for NWA flights, not Alaska flights. oh well, I'll use it next time).

In past years, the award code came in the November billing statement. Don't know about this year as I cancelled my WorldPerks Visa account in February. The code is usually something along the order of WPVA11 (one of last year's codes), probably up to WPVA12 or 13 this year.

What kills me is NWA advertises this perk as being "enhanced" and "new" this year. What's new is a 6000 mile discount instead of 7500. Gee thanks.

That doesn't sound very enhanced, but it does sound a bit (dare I say?) exciting!

I seem to remember my code coming in a coupon pack from NW, not related to an Elite mailing, that had other special certs in it (vacations, etc). They were all dot-matrix printed specifically for my account, so it wasn't like a zone cert that they just give away to anyone. I logged the code in a spreadsheet, so I knew I wouldn't lose it.

But what a coincidence... I just today booked two domestic PerkSaver award tickets using this specific e-cert (WP Visa 6000 x 2), and was pleasantly suprised that it all worked out as it did. Total cost was 38,000 miles (19,000 * 2). Granted, the city pair I booked has awful routing availability (mostly early morning and late night connecting flights), but the entire process was pleasantly pain-free. Granted, I was looking forward to the 7500 miles, but such is life. But considering those 2 tickets would have cost at least $700 (for the pair), that's a darn good value to me.

BTW, the e-cert code is WP602, and the codes are in the 012-047xxxxxxx-x format, so they appear to be like any other e-cert ("technically" speaking).

While I agree we do not get as good of a discount keep in mind this discount is now good on perk pass award tickets as well. In the past you only received the discount on perk saver so this is a nice enhancement and worth it to me to lose the extra 3,000 mile discount.

Yup, that's how I got mine as well. Bummer that I haven't/won't had the chance to use it. I dumped the balance of my miles into Europe tickets for the spring. (And if I recall, the award was only good on domestic flights.)

The enhancement is that they eliminated the seasonal constraints. You can use it in the summer months, too.
