KLM Flying Dutchman - Do upgraded tickets accrue FD points?

I was thinking about taking advantage of the KLM offer of a 50% points reduction on upgrades on ALL direct intercontinental flights to and from Amsterdam.
If I fly an upgraded itinerary in order to qualify for the matching miles promotion, will I earn economy-class miles for the flights?

If the upgraded flight is leaving from AMS, my experience is that you'll get economy class credit. (Only flown operational upgrades, not paid upgrades). If your upgraded flight is leaving from another airport, sometimes you can ("accidentally"?) get C class credit.
Flew from AMS to EWR in Q class last week. Decided to take the KLM offer of the 50% points reduction on upgrades on all direct intercontinental flights to and from AMS. I upgraded to C for 8,750 award points. The flights was a 767. Comfortable but no WBC.
I will earn 1,950 service points (economy-class ticket, Europe-2 residence) for the flight and a bonus of 1,950 award points. The service points count for the present '100% match of miles' FD promotion.

Okay, since it would appear that I can earn miles on my upgraded ticket (at the economy level, at least), I'm planning to do the following run:
ORD-DTW-AMS-DUS
DUS-AMS-DTW-ORD
I don't have my program guide in front of me, but I remember reading that an upgrade costs the same number of points as an economy flight?
I want to upgrade DTW-AMS and AMS-DTW. Each of these currently costs 20,000 points for an economy ticket. With the 50% discount currently offered, can upgrade both legs for 20,000 points?

yes again, except that other posters currently report poor upgrade availability on AMS-DTW.
BTW, I can confirm andersja's post that upgraded flights earn economy miles, and very occasionally business miles on the return leg to AMS...

Matthew, I can definately confirm, that you will earn eco mileage for flights, upgraded by points into WBC.
Sometimes, especially on US domestic flights the system will give you F miles( both service and award points ).You will be upgraded into F on the US domestic segment automatically, when it is a connection to your ( upgraded ) transatlantic flight.
Make sure to call as early as possible, award seats in WBC are tough to get, the promo is valid until the end of February...
Another alternative is to take two US tranfers ( check the fare rules )and connect through DTW and JFK or BOS for example.....
