Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Fare Basis code AR First class ticket?

I recently purchased a CX First Class ticket TPE to LAX return. I paid a bargain price of $5,700 Can Dollars. The e-ticket rules say "No pen restrictions" Yet the it also says it is a Fare Basis Code: AR Can any one tell me what "AR" fare basis is? The fare rules also say "no restrictions after all the conditions" except at the bottom it states "INDUSTRY FARE TYPE - FR - FIRST CLASS RESTRICTED PFCS MAY VARY BY RTG"
My problem is the flight is TPE to HKG, then HKG to LAX returning LAX to HKG, then to TPE and I want to board in HKG and forget the first leg of TPE to HKG, my agent says I may need to pay $4000 extra as HKG was not the purchased originating point. I am tempted to just appear at the check in HKG but worried to be confronted with a huge fee or no seat available. Thanks A new guy RRFS.

A is discounted First Class
R is round trip required

You must start in TPE
TPE to LAX fares are much lower then HKG to LAX fares
TPE fares must compete with China Air and EVA and are therefore much lower.
If you are in HKG you will need to purchase a HKG to TPE flight
or if you re-ticket what you have the airfare could double.

On your return you can get off in HKG !

Just tell the agent at the Check-In in LAX to check your bags only to HKG (dont know if you have to collect your bags anyways) and tell them you wont use the last leg.

It sounds like you have a paper ticket... it might help to hand them just the cupon for LAX-HKG even if they should have it in the system that your route is going to TPE. Just mention personal reasons if they ask !

Since nobody mentioned it, as soon as you miss your scheduled TPE-HKG flight, your entire reservation will be cancelled. Showing up in HKG without a valid reservation is not a particularly wise strategy. Assuming there are even any seat left, you will likely be charged the full walk-up fee, originating from HKG, which will be much more expensivel

The only way I can think of to get around this "problem" would be to issue a paper ticket, and make two separate reservations, one TPE-HKG, and then HKG-LAX-HKG-TPE, so when you no-show at TPE, the other reservation is separate and won't get cancelled. However, I have a feeling that the airlines have checks in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening. It's very clearly prohibited in the contract of carriage.

By the way, what does this have to do with American Airlines or AAdvantage? :confused:

Now that this thread has been helpfully split, it would seem our friends at Cathay Pacific Asia Miles Forum would be far better able to advise on CX fare codes - though my intuition would tell me CX will cancel the entire itinerary when the OP does not show at TPE to board. Saving CDN$4000, very nice; having entire itinerary shut down and having to pay full walk up fare at HKG? Ughly. Maybe a round trip HKG-TPE-HKG serparately? (Would another airline be required? It depends on whether CX allows nested tickets...)

Actually I would advise the OP don't even attempt to do anything stupid and miss the TPE-HKG sector. The CX CSOs in HKG are particularly diligent. Much more than the AA people (whereby they even forgot to collect my paper ticket coupons on like 5 flights in a row!)

I always do ex TPE and to be honest you just have to spend around 3-4 hours extra.

What I normally do is take the morning 460 to TPE then immeidately take 461 back to HKG (as you ahve to buy a HKG-TPE seperate to the TPE-HKG-LAX therefore no connection problems) The CSO in HKG can issue ALL boarding passes for you - HKG-TPE, then TPE-HKG and HKG-LAX. Also they will SSR the TPE CX rep and meet you on arrival to take you through transit.

Then spend 30 minutes in the CX lounge - have a bowl of nice beef noodles! then hop back on the plane and get back to HKG.

Then you can either opt to go out or stay airside. FOr me because I take the 101 back to SYD, I go out and meet my friends for lunch in Central, then go home and pack etc.. When the time comes I goto the airport and check whatever baggage I need to.

Also they can also check your baggages to your FINAL destination in the morning as well, and they are smart enough NOT to tag it via TPE!

I personally find saving the $$ and getting fed like 3 extra meals outweights the 3-4 extra hours!

Thanks for the info Dave, I have a friend in Taipei, haven't see for a while so I bought a one way there and will spend the afternoon. Not only the extra meals it's also the 15" PTV and full bed with no other PAK crawling over you that I like.

Then taking 460/1 is perfect as that is the normal flight they offer F Class. Also if they downgrade you they should give you some compensation as well.
