Hi,
Assuming I were to buy a fully refundable ticket, and I refunded it instead of taking the flight, how long would it take for the refund to through? Do they drag it out forever?
thanks

Only takes about 2 to 3 days to be funded to credit card.

Thanks. One more question I have is does checking in cause any issues? i.e. Checkin, get BP be airside in the terminal, then choose not to take the flight and refund?
thanks

it certainly does - not sure for NZ , but with a lot of airlines once a coupon ( whether paper or ET ) is checked in then travel is deemed to have commenced and that sector is 'used' therefore nonrefundable . you really need to check direct with the airline.
BTW , I hope you are travelling with hand luggage only - it causes major inconvenience to both the airline and the other pax if the plane has to be held so that your checked bags can be retrieved from the hold . If you make that happen don't look for sympathetic treatment or bending of the rules if the coupon is deemed "used "because the airline should actually be billing you for causing a delay

I cancelled a fully refundable ticket a couple of weeks ago, refund appeared withen a couple of days. I had not obtained a BP for the travel, and as a courtesy, I called (albeit only an hour before) NZ to cancel before scheduled departure time.

Is the OP just using this as a ploy to get airside?

Are you sure? I am unconvinced of that - I thought fully refundable tickets were fully refundable right up to the point of marching off the aircraft before take-off.

Um basically yeah.
