MilesBuzz! - Mandarin Oriental, KL - miles only??
My company recently released the 2002 list of preferred hotels, and the list for KL includes only Mandarin Oriental & Sheraton Subang. I'll need to be near the city so Sheraton is out.
I can't find much information on the Mandarin hotel group - so other than the flat 500 miles I get for being a SQ PPS/KrisFlyer member, do I get anything else?? I searched the archives and saw a post about some tie-up with UAL, but didn't see any further information.
I'll be travelling to KL quite frequently in the next several months, so would love to maximise any miles/points with Mandarin, any info is appreciated.
'only' 500 miles - yes.
Try to be invited to the Leaders Club (Leading Hotels of the World) and if you succeed, you will (even more than usual already) really be treated like a King.

Thanks...500 miles it is.
I'd already looked into LHW, and unfortunately the Mandarin Oriental in KL is *not* part of the group.
bummer.
Rest assured that the Madarin Oriental KL is one of the best hotels in the city. It's next door to the Petronas Towers, the Suria KLCC shopping mall, and the park.
A wonderful hotel that sometimes includes breakfast in the rate, and the buffet style breakfast they offer is incredible. Malay cuisine, Chinese, American, etc.
Highly recommended.

In my experience with that hotel they only give miles. I have a feeling that if you are elite members of some programs (I think BA is one) then you are entitled to an upgrade upon check-in. Does anyone else have the same information? It was a year ago when I last stayed there and I love the hotel.
And whaddaya know, Mandarin Oriental is fully booked for the dates I need. so I'll be in the Sheraton Imperial instead, which is excellent as well I hear, but I'll miss out on the easy access to shopping.
Next time....

Fimo,
The walk to the towers is only about 15 minutes, the traffic can make it long as you need to cross about three major intersections. You may sweat a little, but a little sweat never killed anyone, and I see you are from SIN.. Don't stay in Subang.. Only thing they have is a nice run down little domestic airport.
Thanks Ryan, I didn't know that it was walking distance to KLCC. Excellent! Yes, I'm avoiding Sheraton Subang... too far in the boondocks.
