Starwood Preferred Guest - I had a free night and did not know about it

So I called in to do a plat overide for later in the year and the operater says hey did you know you earned a free weekend night but it expires on Dec 31st?

Just an fyi to anyone else out there it was from some early promotion and no where on the website does it mention you have it.

Errr... Of course if SPG would just put these on their web site, as well as a list of Promos we qualify for, these problems wouldnt happen.

Same thing happened to me two weeks ago. I realized that I had three nights from a stay three get a free weekend night promo that was offered earlier in the year. I stayed a night at the Atlantic City Sheraton this past weekend (nice hotel BTW) and booked a night in a Sheraton in NYC for next weekend.

I may end up not using the third since it expires the end of December.

If you read the post prior to yours, that is one of the promos that *wood offered where you can earn free nights. Keep reading FT and you'll hear about the promotions and your email to see if you're eligible for them. These types of free nights do not show anywhere and you have to call to check if you have them, and to use them. It's a pain for us but likely significantly increases breakage (earned, not used) for them so they keep doing it this way.
