I guess that is what they are called.... for instance...when I log onto FT the top banner appears quite quickly but the body of the website might take an excruciatingly long 3 or 4 seconds.... happens with other websites as well.

Is this just the nature of the web or is there something I need to tweak in my settings?

Thanks.

could just be network latency/lag, but could also be a design problem - web pages that are giant tables can load slowly if the browser loads the entire table before displaying it.

There are a few things going on that might make a difference.

Chances are that the actual FT "shell" and the forums are on different servers. Even if they are not referenced seperatly from the internet, there is at least a database call happening that may take some time. Also, a lot of the content, such as the ADs, doesn't come FT at all...and that could be faster or slower.
