Wow... That is actually pretty impressive. Being able to watch movies off my iPod on the IFE would be pretty sweet.

As well as not having to bring a charger for the plane.

I'd say a 747 is the ultimate Ipod accessory.

This'll last until someone's iPod goes boom/crashes/what-have-ya while connected and sues the airline... either that or until Apple and/or the airline get sued by the RIAA and/or MPAA for not paying licensing for exhibition in an alternate venue (just kidding here but I wouldn't put it past 'em)

Which of these airlines listed will bring out refurbed seats and/or cabins with this feature? Emirates on budget/marketing grounds?
Perhaps the mid-07 date refers to 787s - what is the common connection between these carriers - maybe the seat/AVOD supplier?
I hope that it is the long-hauls which get this first; what are the chances of it being on long-haul 744 refurbs? (he asks hopefully  )

Wow! Now this could almost get me to start flying with Sky Team again. Just maybe.

Its a great little marketing ploy by Apple and they themselves have the most to gain from the service. However I would be reluctant to approve of the airlines decision in tying themselves into one specific technology. There are many cases in business history of this and in most cases the companies that did lock themselves into one technology ended up paying the price.
However you can't argue with 92% of the MP3 player market Apple's iPod holds but as a video player it is seen as an inferior product and has more competition in this area as opposed to the dominance it has in the MP3 player market.
Personally I prefer the way SQ are going with an open system that has usb ports etc on an open pc like system. Maybe in years to come we will have a fully functioning computer in our seats with free net access, which means free VoIP calls, gaming, videos, music and everything!

Sounds like UA - UA is planning to unveil its new F and C seats in 2007, so it makes sense to introduce the iPod feature at the same time, no?

This would be great.
AppleInsider.com:
Two of six airlines say there's no ink on iPod deal
...
"It's way too early to confirm any such details," an Air France spokeswoman, referring to the iPod seat connectivity and a mid-2007 availability date, told Reuters.
Similarly, a spokesman for KLM told the media outlet there had only been "informal contacts" between Apple and the airline leading up to the announcement.
