Travel Technology - standalone GPS or gsm phone w/option
I am planning to drive to niagara falls, and would of course like to have a GPS unit in the car,
is it better to get a stand alone unit ie Garmin I3
or
change phones and get a GSM HSDPA compatible phone that can incorporate GPS (ie HTC TyTn or HTC3600??)
I'd go for option 2. I dislike having too many gadgets around.

Check out the Nokia N 95 - built in GPS, 5MP Camera, MP3 player.... i know I am biased, but this device is the best all in one solution i have ever used.

I have an LG 8300 (or whatever) from Verizon, and got GPS for a month for free. I was surprised at the quality (good), and the ability to receive GPS signals, even inside my house (but near a window). Just remember that it uses air time when downloading maps, giving info on nearby places of interest (restaurants, etc.).

I like option 2, the stand alone GPS solution.
I want my phone to be a phone, and nothing else, sort of a cell phone luddite there. Should I lose it I lose a $60 phone, not a bag o electronics.
The gps I like to be able to bring from car to car when on a trip, and like the stand alone solution. I have a garmin V now, it's not fancy, it doesn't have a ton of memory, but it works great and I haven't found any significant reason to upgrade it just yet.

I use the Palm Treo 650 with Tom Tom GPS software and Bluetooth GPS receiver. Works great! I really like it because the screen is bigger than the typical phone LCD and the software is pretty good.
well, thank u all for your points of view;
i went to see the new garmin, and was not too convinced even though i would have liked a stand alone for the car...
i will perhaps still try the GARMIN during my trip to niagara falls, and will drive to buffalo and pick up a HTC 3600 and have an integrated all in one unit..
as far as the treo goes, i had the 650 and recently changed for a Windows version QTEK S200, so as to minimize carryin laptop and..., and...., and..
