Does anyone know when they expect to demolish the Stardust?
I've tried googling it but can't seem to find anything more specific then 'early 2007' -I'd quite like to be there when it goes, and I'm wondering where a good room will be to watch it go from!

I'm thinking that New Frontier, Wynn, and perhaps the Riveria will offer excellent viewing depending on the exact room. And among those three you have quite a variance in price and quality.

yeah, i was thinking of the Wynn which is where i usually stay, but I might be with friends, and all the twin rooms at the Wynn are rear facing....
I'm probably heading back over in December, so I'll have to check it out properly then!

I was told last week by a very reliable source (i.e., the guy in charge ;) ) that it is scheduled for March. They're going to be taking down some of the lower-rise portions in advance with backhoes, etc. and then implode the main tower in March.

I'm thinking that New Frontier, Wynn, and perhaps the Rivieia will offer excellent viewing depending on the exact room. And among those three you have quite a variance in price and quality.
Update: I'm in Vegas now. Wynn appears to have too oblique an angle for proper viewing of the Stardust demo, except perhaps for golf course facing rooms to the extreme north (suites on the extreme north should have good views). So you may have to go to a cheaper hotel for the best view.
Some Riviera rooms will be good; and Circus Circus of all hotels will probably have the best views, directly north of the Stardust via their south-facing rooms.
I'm currently at the Renaissance, and its views of the demo would be very good, albeit not as close as Circus Circus and Riviera.
If you could somehow swing it, the top of Wynn's employee parking garage would have a sweet view.
Edited to add: The guest parking garage at Wynn is a SUPER sweet view, assuming they'll leave it open on the demo date. It's very close, however - you'd definitely get dusted.

The dates don't seem to get publicized too far in advance, but sometimes you can get details here:

Other than that, personal connections as noted above are probably the best. :)

Latest estimated implosion date is mid-March:
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2007/Jan-21-Sun-2007/business/12010899.html
The date of the Stardust implosion is March 12 at 2 AM according to Norm Clark, LV Review-Journal.
We’ll see.

the date? NOT SOON ENOUGH!
Here's another bit of information about the implosion from the www.lasvegasadvisor.com question of the day:
They spoke to someone from Boyd Gaming and were told the exact date is not set yet. Clark County doesn't issue the permits until about four hours prior to the event. This way they can delay the implosion if the viewing public becomes too much to handle.
There will be some limited fireworks to make it a news event for the beginning of Echelon Place.
All that is left to be demolished, is the steel/concrete structure that is left - it's almost hard to see because the only thing there is the frame and you can see right through it.

Now being reported at Las Vegas Advisor and Las Vegas Casino Death Watch that the implosion will occur in the early morning hours of Monday, March 12.
You can celebrate DST and Stardust's death all at once! :D :D :D
This web site has been following the dismantling of the Stardust and its sign, from closure until now, in photographs and video clips.

This guy has done a great job on his website. It is actually very sad to watch the place dismantled.

I thought it was was pretty spectacular but being fairly new to Vegas this was my first up close implosion. The amazing parts for me were just how quickly it went down and how much the ground shook during the initial blasts and colapse. Way cool!
The video is good but really does not do it justice.
