How sweet it is. Took my family on a trip to Toronto. I had just become Diamond VIP and my wife and kids loved the upgraded room and the breakfast in the Exec lounge and the added attention we got. I'm sure we ticked off some old business people by bringing in little kids to eat breakfast while they were trying to relax. The milk and cookies in the evening was great as well. ^

welcome to the club. it's a nice program.

be sure to acquaint yourself with the diamond desk, there are numerous ways they will be of help to you - getting a paid or award stay at a property that is supposedly full, advocating for you when the local property management is being difficult, etc...

Congratulations :).

It does make a difference...especially regarding the ability to get awards when they appear to be booked out...

Most of us old business people have kids too and take them on vacations as well. :) My kids love going into the Club rooms

Just as you can tell a lot about a person by the shine on their shoes, you can also tell a lot about a couple by the actions of their kids in a public setting.

I always enjoy eating breakfast on the road with well-behaved families. Congratulations on making Diamond! You will know you’ve been on the road too long after you make Platinum on NW and with *wood too.

16 nights to go for me to Diamond....

I am doing 4 nights a week straight for the next few - should have it in time for the holidays.

Congrats on becoming a diamond.

I'll ditto the comment about well-mannered children. I take the wife and three kids on the road one week each year as a business man's vacation. I am sad and a bit ignored to see kids running wild in a lounge or a breakfast buffet. However, most of the time, the kids and parents I see traveling are wonderful.

I don't mind kids in the airline or hotel lounges as long as they are behaving like good kids (and I'm not saying they have to behave like adults). If they are acting like spoiled brats then it's a totally different story, if they are runing remote control cars all over the place, yelling back and forth, or taking all the food, then I do mind them (all of which I've witnessed).

After all, you have to train them someplace, may as well start when they are young.

It's often interesting to have a seven or a ten year old start asking you about your travels, totally differen though their eyes.

no...i'm talking OLD as in 65 or so. lol. i'm 30 and have two boys that are imho very well-mannered. at least we are told that constantly. guess we're old fashioned and have trained them to be so.

and i don't think i'll make platinum on NW. my trips are all in the midwest, most only getting the min eqm. i'll be gold this week tho'. that will be nice. nothing like sitting in F while your boss sits in coach. :p

I still have 3 kids at home and let me tell you, 65 doesn't look so old after you pass 50 yourself. ;)

My kids also enjoy executive lounges and airline clubs and show their appreciation by behaving. Of course, the youngest is 13 and ought to know how to behave by now.

Not sure of the NW rules, but on DL you could upgrade your boss (although chances are slim) with a companion upgrade. Makes a much better impression than setting down your free drink and thumbing your nose as he passes you on the way to the back of the plane. :D

OK, I understand from reading FT that Diamond isn't much better than Gold (Gold being quite a good program), but this is my first Elite status on any program, so it is a milestone! :D

For those who may wonder, I did it the "old fashioned way", on my back! I did get a fast track challenge to Gold, and tried for same to Diamond since I was staying 2-3 nights a week reliably, but was refused categorically despite being politely persistent up the chain of command.

I am about to take advantage of one perk - next week my preferred hotel is sold out, so I'll try the Diamond force. (Wondering if I have to call or whether it can be done online ...)

Congrats!!!

If Diamond isn't all that important,I wonder wht so many care? This can be evidenced in the many threads about the rolling-tier.

As a Diamond, you can book a stay online; however, most of the time I find the icon beside the hotel to say "Diamond Desk call required" (or something to that effect). So, you just call the Diamond Desk & you've got a room!

I've used this perk at least 5 times in the last 5 months. I was able to book the new Hilton property on Daytona Beach for me & my daughter during spring break (always sold out). A quick phone call got me in.

Since Diamond, I can certainly tell a difference in treatment. You'll enjoy it.

Just be aware that the Diamond force will get you a room, but it may not be for your normal price. The only time I tried it, it would have costed 2.5 x our normal corporate rate.

I tried to book a very last minute business stay last week and was
rejected on two different times that I called the Diamond line. The
hotel was fully booked. I even called the hotel itself, invoking the
"I'm a Diamond and was just there last week" line, and still found
myself being walked to the Marriott next door. Not a nice hotel, that
Marriott.

I just became Diamond also, in late October. So far I have noticed that when I send in an email question, it's answered within about 15 minutes compared to 2-3 days for Gold emails. I send in a request for missing credit for a second room that I had, and only 1 room was credited with base points etc.
The fixed it within 15 min, and then also told me there were two other stays I had where this problem occured. (She said the HHonors system considers 2 rooms as a double booking and you need to call to have the points applied for the second room, which I did not know.)

Will try the guaranteed room soon. So far I'm impressed with Diamond treatment.

Noting that they usually charge the rack rate ($$$$), I think a more important varient on this perk is that you can force your way into a reward stay. I've used this three or four times this year to get reward rooms where they did not show up as being avaiable. (And the point cost does not change...)

Where can I find the special Diamond number? In the brochure that I got is nothing more than the normal number? I didn't find any special Diamond number in the Internet nor in on my Diamond plastic card.

It should be on the back of your card. It will say "reservations" or "guest services" or some such. If I wasn't being so lazy tonight, I'd grab mine from my wallet, but, since it's across the house, I'm opting to be lazy tonight.

Welcome to Diamond status. You may not feel the difference everywhere, but some properties will acknowledge your loyalty, remark on it, and do nice things for you. If you always select the top hotel in the area, you may find Diamonds a dime a dozen there. If there are multiple HH properties, try a few out to find the ones where you will be treated best.

I love the Diamond Desk, not so much because they solve all my problems, but because they do it quickly without needing a long drawn out explanation. They simply listen and do what you ask if it is within their power.

I double-checked and there is the same number on all of my cards and brochures: 00 800 444 666 77. Is there maybe only for US members a special Diamond number?

When you ring this number during UK daytime hours, you get the HHonors Customer Services and one of the options is to be put through to the Diamond Desk at Glasgow.
