Interesting development, since many "good" clients are installed on non-Motorola equipment. With the semi-success of the Q and their upcoming "Q Pro" aka "Norman" I'd say they are planning to take mobile messaging quite a lot more serious...

According to The Register, Motorola has a good record of being "responsible" when purchasing companies other OSs are involved. Interesting analysis here:

BTW, is anyone going to launch a competitor to Blackberry's consumer orientated (i.e. Me) BWC anytime soon?

In the US Danger is doing a pretty good job with theirs (on the Sidekick/Hiptop), or do you mean a competitor that'll work ON the Blackberry?

I'm thinking general competitor to BWC (as in works with any none Blackberry device). For example, Goodlink seems to be a very enterprise orientated things but I am just interested in replicating what T-Mobile (UK) and Blackberry already give me via BWC.

I did consider buying a Nokia E61 but I've seen no evidence on the net that Nokia's Blackberry client for this device works with BWC.

Of course, if I go away from Blackberry (even if the above could work), I'd doubtless be disappointed because the Blackberry I have already just does work.

It works like a champ. We're using the E61 with Cingular and T-Mobile's BWC and they both work perfectly. I've been using the T-mo version for months now and set another up on Cingular for someone in the office about a month ago. Neither has had any issue.

Incidentally, Georgetown University has a killer FAQ on using BWC (http://uis.georgetown.edu/hardware/blackberry/bb.bwc.html) along with direct links to each of the providers' BWC sign-ins.

Many thanks for confirming that. It might just be the perfect answer to the dodgy escape key on my ageing Blackberry.

Having just spent a month with the Sidekick 3 and now on week 2 with the Blackberry Pearl, the Pearl wins hands-down as an email device and as a phone. Much better battery life and better BT performance. Not to mention that I can carry the Pearl in a shirt pocket.

Kids don't care about Bluetooth or battery life... They want funny smileys and a place to update their myspace page :D

YOu can download Blackberry Connect from here: Blackberry Connect Link (http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry_downloads.php)

It works like a charm. The one thing I miss from a real blackberry was the ability to run applications using my Blackberry data package and not paying by the megabyte. For example, I used IM+ on a real Blackberry to instant message and did not have to pay extra for the data.

If you are a Blackberry Enterprise user, a word of warning -- many IT Departments are still struggling to activate these units. The best way, in MYHO is with Blackberry Connect for Nokia and a data cable. People have had a hard time with over the air activations.
