Earn 500 AAdvantage miles for purchase of Swiss Knights Fondue and Cheese.

More information at www.emmiusa.com.

I stumbled upon this offer last night in my supermarket (Queens, NY). My wife and daughter like fondue and with a long shelf life (9 months) I will probably buy 6-8 boxes for a quick 2000 miles. The offer also mentions cheese wedges.

I tried looking at the website and couldn't find this (maybe I missed it), but what is the maximum number of miles you can earn by buying this product?

Found a couple of items on Amazon (1 cheese wheel $3.59, 1 Fondue $7.99).

Of course there is no way to know if these are participating packages without ordering. However, I'd assume the prices on Amazon are at least close to what grocery stores would have.

The Emmi website lists Costco, Trader Joes and Super Target as retailers so there may be cheaper prices available vs. supermarkets.

I went to my local Albertsons and they had the AA marked Fondue set for $10.49. :td:

Funny story: I asked my clerk at Albertsons (she always checks me out...no...not like that... :p we've known each other for several years now.) I asked her about the Swiss Knights cheese wheels. It wasn't busy, so she closed up her stand and walked with me to the cheese section to look. She commented to me, "that processed stuff is gross...I've never seen you buy such things." When we got to the cheese section, she grabbed one of the fondue boxes and stared at the little silver airplane printed on the box. She rolled her eyes, looked at me and said, "Oh...that explains it..." :D
She later said the store used to carry it, but don't carry it because they carry the same type of cheese in other brands..

I couldn't find any at my local Ralphs (owned by Krogers,) Trader Joe's, nor Costco! I did find the Assorted Snack Wedges wheel at Vons for $5.89. :td: I didn't buy it for that price.

Thanks for checking this out and sharing with us, rrgg! :-:

We actually have enjoyed the occasional Swiss Knights fondue in the past; miles make them tastier, indeed. Whole Foods apparently does have them, at USD $9.00 a pop - and they are prominently marked on the outside of the box; we were shopping there and purchased two. These are very easy to redeem, with no apparent limit on how many coupons you redeem. (Now to see how long these take to post...)

Time to check local Trader Joes for lower prices.

There is no limit. I contacted Emmi to confirm this.

The guy at my Albertsons couldn't find the fondue. He looked for a long time and gave up and said they didn't carry it. Is it in the refrigerated cheese section?

Site also says Super Target has it. Anybody checked there?

The Swiss Knight Fondue set was sitting on top of the refrigerated specialty cheese display. My friend from Albertsons called me back and said she checked and found an Albertsons that does carry the cheese wheels. She said the grocery managers in different stores order whatever items seems to be more popular. So it's likely some Albertsons will have it while others won't.

I went to the Albertsons she told me about and found the cheese wheels for $4.99. Not great considering the same size and type of cheese from Laughing Cow was $3.00 each.

Good luck,

1. 500 AA miles for each package
2. Triple DL miles when I use my DL Amex (we were targeted for the AMEX triple SkyMiles promotion :) )
3. .5 miles per $ on UAL and it'll put me closer to the $2000 I need to spend to get the UAL bonus of 3000 MP (spend $2000 in Nov & Dec)

Triple dip (not counting the fondue dip)

Couldn't resist going out on the cheese quest! We are up at North Shore Lake Tahoe for a long weekend - and after seeing the posting had to see if I could find any ... Went to three stores - Safeway - Kings Beach, Raley's - Incline Village, neither had the fondue or the wheels ... off to Albertson's - Tahoe City! and success! Bought 8 cheese wheels :D - but the big payoff was that 4 had DOUBLE coupons !!! So - 6000 miles on the way! We did leave a few wheels on the shelf (they did not have the fondue) - so if anyone is in the area ...

Cheese wheels make great stocking stuffers ...

While we were at Super Target my wife called my daughter to ask her if any of the stores in her area had the cheese and was trying to explain why it had to be this kind of cheese. I asked my wife to keep her voice down while trying to explain the thought process while on the cell phone.....other people might think we are crazy ;)

I presume the cheese wheel at $3.59 would earn the 500 miles too?

This could be really interesting if it works out. Anyone been to a Costco yet? My wife is a member of our local one, I'll pop in this weekend.

I went into a Food Lion on my way home from work and they said they have no fondue, neither did our upmarket supermarket (Ukrops) then again I asked about fondue and not cheese wheels...

After eating £400 of cheese, I think you won't fit into Y anyway.

I've done this kind of bulk buying things before in the UK with coffee, biscuits and frozen beef and always found a good home for them. Whether it be the swans on the local canal, the homeless shelter or the dog belonging to one of the customers at the bank I worked summers at. The latter case was quite funny because you could see the Jack Russell gaining weight each week :D

One would only hope, given that my Albertsons had plenty of the wheels - albeit at $5 apiece. :(

With the packaging the way that it is on the wheels (that is, the code on the inside), I'm thinking that enlisting the food bank may well be the way to go. I don't know whether they'd be as willing to accept opened food product (even though the cheese inside is, itself, sealed).

Both the Fondue and Cheese Wheel are clearly marked on the outside for the AAdvantage promotion. Both are worth 500 miles.

I believe that the post was in reference to the cheese being sold online (via amazon.com) -- while it is clearly marked on the outside, one would not know this until it is received (as the cheese is being purchased sight unseen).

My store is selling the Cheese Wheel for $2.99 (lowest price I have seen yet on flyertalk). I think I will buy them out tonight (maybe 15 wheels left in my store) and check their other stores later this week.

 That is super cheap! Is it a local one-off type place or a chain?

If it says Costco stock them I'll go and take a look, however I noticed their Coca-Cola wasn't in MyCokeRewards...I'd hate to pre-order $2000 worth and find it wasn't eligible for the promotion  I feel I'd have to make a bath from it and then drown myself :D

The ones I've done before were loyalty points on given items as decided by the store selling them so no debate over whether miles would be awarded. This is tricky to call, especially in the early stages of the promotion.

If this does work out I might see if I can organise some charity type event since opened packages probably won't be accepted. I work in a twenty story office block so getting rid of lots of fondue cheese shouldn't be too hard. A fondue cook-off perhaps? :D

Found the last remaining six cheese wheels at my local Albertson's for $4.99. Not that of a good price, but still >$0.01 per mile. Fortunately, they carried the assorted type, so I got to try the different flavors.

My supermarket is Waldbaum's, which is also owned by the same company as A&P, SuperFresh and The Food Emporium. All located in NY, NJ, CT, DC, DE, MD and PA.

I found both the Fondue and Cheese Wheel on cardboard display cases near the dairy cooler. These are the temporary displays that are just sitting on the floor. The Fondue is priced at $5.99 and the Cheese Wheel is only $2.99. The Cheese Wheel is actually very good cheese, an assortment of different flavors on the same wheel.

I have so far entered 6 codes. I will keep you posted if and when the miles post. As was mentioned, the details at the emmiusa website are limited. If there is no limit on the number of codes you can enter this could be a great way to top off your account. 10,000 AAdvantage miles for $60.00 plus cheese sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I am going to check Waldbaum's in Brooklyn, but in case they don't carry it, would you mind giving me (by PM if you wish) the address of your local store?

That's the thing... the charities probably won't accept already-opened packages (free miles + mile scroungers = Christmas in November :D)

BUT, I'm sure the charities wouldn't mind accepting the cheese if they were the ones to open them.

I just came back from the shoprite here in East Windsor, NJ. They had about 10-15 SwissKnight cheese wheels but with no AA logo etc.

What is that I am looking for when it comes to specially marked boxes? Will it say AA on it?

BTW, the price was amazing. It is selling for $2.50. I was looking for this all over the store and could not find it and then I asked the manager. He knew exactly where they were but I was disappointed to find out that there were no AA signs on them. We chatted for about 30 minutes about this promo and he got all excited about it. He took my contact info and promised to call me tomorrow. He is going to find out when are they going to get more of these (as they may be marked with AA). Not too far from here is a big Shoprite distribution center.

I am keeping my fingures crossed. But this is the cheapest I saw so far on the Flyertalk.

Another Kroger, Super Target and Harris Teeter down, but no Swiss Knight rounds.

The Super Target had the Emmi Fondue packages but none with the AA promotion. I went to another World Market and they had plenty of both products but none had the promotion.

It has become obvious that the Emmi website lists chains that sell any of their products (I am seeing plenty of their "cave aged" cheeses), but not ones that carry all of their products.

I am rapidly running out of stores in the RDU area with no luck so far.

You know, its true. If you're willing to buy into a promotion with AA, you can pretty much sell anything so long as the word gets out to this list. I'm actually surprised that we don't see more offers for truly undesirable products, which are causing logistics problems for larger firms. For example, storing or properly disposing of thousands of hard drives would far exceed the cost of the miles. A firm could easily dump inventory if the mileage per dollar was good enough - I mean they have to pay to get rid of the things already. How far would you be willing to go for $.008 per mile or better?

OK, places that can possibly USE that much cheese:

School districts
Food closets
Senior / Elderly Nutrition Programs
Salvation Army and other shelters
Senior Gleaners or other non-profit food gleaning outfits

A consulting resource that can help you decide what to do with all the cheese: the living legend on FlyerTalk himself, Pudding Guy! Search for his saga - here on FT-AA (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=540833), of course, and on Johnny Jet (http://www.johnnyjet.com/folder/reporters/puddingguyqa.html), on Snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com/business/deals/pudding.asp), THE ORIGINAL POST (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showpost.php?p=22792&postcount=17) and the pix (http://www.flyertalk.com/pudding.htm) sent to Randy Petersen as proof.

Part of his biosketch there says "David Phillips has gone to great lengths to fuel his passion for free travel. He once bought 12,000 cups of chocolate pudding to take advantage of a promotion that offered frequent flyer miles for every purchase. Spending about $2,500, David earned 1.25 million miles and a life-long nickname as “the Pudding Guy.” He claimed another million miles after flying through ten countries in Latin America in six days."

See? We're not crazy, merely following a honorable FlyerTalk tradition. BTW, David had the recipient clip all the coupons... and give him the required IRS receipt form 501 (c) (3) non-profit organizations. Now, which one of our FT members will be the next living legend of miles miracles? Which one of you will be Cheese Guy or Gal, the legend?

Emmi is not giving these miles away for free. They certainly can't afford to pay more for the miles than they sell the cheese for and that be the end of the business relationship. Their hope is the promo gets you to try the cheese and you keep buying it after the promo is over. They could buy a commercial on TV, or buy the miles and let the internet advertise for them.

I will start a systematic search of SE Michigan tomorrow.

Whole Foods said they wouldn't carry the cheese wheels because there are preservatives in them.

I went to customer service at Costco to see if Emmi's Swiss Knights Snack Wheels were included in products they buy, since Costco was on Emmi's list. The only thing that Costco buys from Emmi is the cave aged cheese.

Then I talked with the Costco manager, asking what it might take in terms of guaranteed sales for Costco to add a product from the product line of an already established manufacturer-buyer relationship, cost per unit, number of units per pallet (I know they get pretty much everything palletized), and my contact information, and included the fact that I was only interested in the processed cheese snack wheels that were part of the Emmi-American Airlines promotion for frequent flyer miles (he was somewhat amused).

He said he would pass my request and info to their buyer and one of the two of them would get back to me.

Now, he also casually mentioned that they usually buy by the truckload!

I think that is somewhat more than I am willing to go for myself--I don't want to be greedy. However, I was thinking that if Costco does their buying centrally, then maybe I could get them to buy a truckload of the snack cheese wheels, and then "advise" them as to what stores they should distribute pallets to which would be quickly bought up....

I'll keep you all informed as to my progress.

Well, I have asked the shop a number of times now; and just to make sure we were on the same page they sent me two sample boxes: both contained the 500 mile vouchers.

Of course, you make a good point. However, I think I have made it clear enough to them about what I want. If they still do not send me the right boxes, I think there is sufficient grounds to request a refund. But, like you say, this isn't 100% foolproof. I personally think it is worth trying though.

I think you'll find that they sell more quickly than you think they will. The going price on eBay for miles drastically increased after the Kelloggs promo ended, as evidenced by the price that Cinemark certificates got earlier this summer.

A wise question. I THINK I know the answer. (Caution: This is a guess.)

Here in New York City, there is a large marketplace once a year for grocery items that are certified kosher for Passover. Many supermarkets will allocate special sections to those products. In fact, in some heavily Jewish neighborhoods, some retailers will open small stores devoted solely to Passover items.

When any of these businesses places an order for a kosher for Passover item, they have no need for one without the certification (which basically looks identical) because they will not be able to sell it to the people who want it.

Here is an example. Coca Cola comes in one or two sizes marked for Passover. Those who observe Passover won't buy Coke without the certifcation.

So, if you are a retailer, you say you want the Passover Coke, but how does anyone know what's in the case?

I BELIEVE that the answer is in the lot numbers printed on the outside of the case. Coke knows which lots are for Passover and they pass that information along to distributors. This saves everyone a lot of grief in the form of returns.

I am GUESSING that Emmi must know which lots of cheese contain the AA promotion certificates and that this information COULD be given to their distrubutors and/or wholesalers.

This is just a guess, but it seems to make sense.

Your guesses invited as well. :)

While you may be correct with regard to the lot numbers and the like, the Coke analogy is not an exact one. It is the bottlers who produce the Passover Coke who distribute it themselves within their local area -- and the markings on the bottle (the yellow cap signifying it as kosher for Passover) is sufficient marking to determine which bottle is which, particularly as Coke typically delivers their product in trays, not boxes.

Okay, but two points: Nobody wants to have to open a case of Coke and find out that it doesn't contain the yellow caps which I think are more of an aid to consumers.

Also, take Starbucks coffee as an example. The Passover package is identical in all respects to the regular one with the exception of the small letter "P" next to the kosher certification.

I would find it hard to believe that the company doesn't keep track of lots.

Actually, this is an instance where you'd want to pay by PayPal, and it's fortunate (for the buyer) that PayPal is the only payment method accepted by the seller. Were the seller to pull the scam you are suggesting, the buyer can very easily claim non-receipt of goods and get their money back, as the seller could not prove that physical items were sent with online tracking.

Passover Coke only comes in two-liter bottles - there is no case to open. That's why the analogy doesn't hold.

First coupons are starting to appear on eBay...$150 for 10 (5k miles) which seems somewhat optimistic.

I don't think he'll have any problem whatsoever selling at that price. It's been proven over and over again that there are buyers out there willing to pay 3 cents - or more - for AA miles.

It has nothing to do with PayPal Buyer Protection -- the PayPal Seller Protection Policy would apply. If a seller cannot provide proof that an item was shipped within seven days, the seller loses an item not received dispute, and the buyer would get his or her money back.

I can't find any proper T&C for this offer. Specifically how long it takes for the miles to post and who to contact about the offer e.g. how to distinguish zeros from the letter 'O' Anyone have any ideas?

Emmi's website says that you should allow about 2 weeks to process the request. I don't know if the miles will actually show up within 2 weeks though.

I would contact Emmi USA at 845-268-9990 with questions about the offer.

That would be $3 per package for 2000 packages -- is that a fair estimate of the wholesale price?

I am interested in 1 million miles(about $6,000 of cheese) if we can find a supplier.

Also, are we're sure we won't run into any problems trying to redeem this many miles?

...and the timing of this promotion doesn't help either. The fact that it is around holidays (with many businesses closed for quite a few days) makes it harder to contact suppliers.

From a business standpoint:
Emmi normally imports X amount of cheese wheels that they expect to sell at $Y each. The fact that we want to buy much more than they probably expect to sell (up to their next import) doesn't make it seem like they would want to wipe out their inventory rapidly by giving nice disounts....But who knows?

If someone can find someone who IS willing (I'm looking, too!), I'm all for it. (I'm going for about 1 mil miles out of this and am waiting to hear back from a local shop about procuring these snack wedges).

I am rather unhappy....I went to three local Albertson's and gladly picked up about 35 boxes of the wheels with the AA stickers on all of them. There were many in the store without stickers and I was careful to only buy the promo cheeses. When I got home I opened 18 of them and so far 9 of them DO NOT HAVE ANY PAPERS inside with any codes at all. I cannot return them to the store because they are opened. I paid $4.99 each and planned to keep the colorful wedges (the boxes I got contain 6 different flavors of cheese) till next month and make up a number of little baskets with cheese and crackers and chocolate for my employees at the holidays. I certainly don't need so many and would clearly not have purchased them if they didn't have this promo.

Even if I call up Emmi and tell them that half my boxes don't have codes, how could I prove it to them? I have my receipts and I am considering returning the unopened boxes. It is ridiculous. Takes all the fun out of the game....

The claim would not be successful, as it specifically states that (including but not limited to) intangible goods, services, quasi-cash, gift certificates, and downloadable or streaming content are not covered.
The person that processes the claim would not process it any further and reject any claim.

All of this is irrelevant, though, because the seller isn't selling an intangible good. He's selling pieces of paper -- a tangible good -- which would be covered. As the seller gives an option to have them mailed, it would be nearly impossible for them to claim that it wasn't otherwise.

Talked to D***** at Emmi about the missing certs and where to find the cheese. He said my call is the first he's heard of missing certs. I told him I was considering buying more cheese than normal because of the promo, but was hesitant because of the missing certs.

I asked what would happen if the certs were missing in the packages I bought. He stated the cheese is packaged and the certs are put in at the factory in Switzerland. He stated there are no extra certs in America and it would be difficult to prove whether there was one in there to begin with, not implying I am dishonest but that other people may be. I told him I understand. He was very polite. He said an email or letter would not be enough.

He also stated people were calling asking where the promo cheese is. He said all the cheese goes through distributors, and the headquarters has no idea who has the old pre promo cheese and who has the new cheese. He said eventually, all the places that carry the wheels and fondue will have the new cheese.

(Although a rather good idea if anyone in the company actually understood how points crazed we are...)

Bottom line is this--I have opened 19 packages now and I only have 9 certs and I have 20 more unopened packages in my refridgerator. Should I return them to the stores (another waste of my time) or open them and just make myself even more mad?

With the short time needed for archiving, burning it into a couple CD's so you can clear the hard drive space again (if that is an issue for you) should be fine.

If only because I can't think of anything more entertaining to do with a day off than be really obsessive over an unimportant thing, I hit four more Albertson's between DFW and far north Fort Worth on the way back from dropping somebody off at the airport. Only found a few unmarked boxes of fondue, which is a relief since since it seems hideously expensive for such a small package, and previous posters say it does not taste great and isn't less filling. I might have hated myself for actually buying it. Albertson's in Texas seems to carry 50 varieties of Laughing Cow, but no Swiss Knights. I wonder if its a coastal distribution thing.

Either that or the Laughing Cows paid off Bevo, the Texas Longhorn mascot and godbull of the Austin dairy products syndicate for an exclusive. Probably a half dozen red cows with those smirky laughing faces cornered the Texas Albertson's regional manager behind the store and forced him into a refrigerator truck, where Bevo made him an offer he couldn't refuse. "Moo. Bonjoir, y'all. Whass it gonna be? We give you a little advertising money. You give my girls all the cooler space. We all sell a lot of cheese. Or you stock the Swiss stuff and root for A&M Friday and we give you a horn in a really unhappy place. Your choice. Moo".

Do you really think the store will take back the opened boxes of cheese wheels if you say you didn't find a cert inside? They would be foolish to do it because many unscrupulous folk would just open the boxes, take out the papers, and then return the cheese. Personally, I am trying to still decide if I should return my 22 UNOPENED boxes that are bekoning me every night to open them to see if there is actually a certificate inside....

when you buy cheese that promises certificates, you buy:

1) cheese and
2) certificates.

if there aren't certificates, you can return the items. if the store won't take the items back, you can dispute the charge on your credit cAArd stAAtement.

Agreed. Most respectable stores will take it back. Long ago I used to buy D* setups from Wal-Mart, and one I got someone had stolen the card. I brought it back and after talking to a manager they took it back.

I repeat my previous question:

If you buy the cheese, open the package and find there is no AA certificate, why not call Emmi?

Isn't what you really want not a refund but the miles?

It would be most interesting to hear the company's response.

Are you suggesting that the details of post #196 aren't a sufficient company response?

I called Emmi this morning to see if they had changed their response from the person here who previously called. I didn't mention this board, but I did speak to the same guy. He was very nice. He said the same thing as before. He has no idea what to do, basically. He took my name and number and maybe he will come up with something. I am afraid he will send me a voucher to get free cheese!! At this point, I have so much I am considering saving them for next Halloween---just think, a plastic pumpkin full of assorted cheese wedges!! :)

I´m in europe at the moment and when I opened my newspaper today I saw a big advertisement by a german supermarket chain for the EMMI "Cheese Fondue" :D Of course with no promotion but it was like a deja vu

The actual price over here is 1,99 EUR ~ 2,27 USD ^

Cheers,

S.

I assume noone is interested in some $9 fondue packs with the miles, but I'll offer anyways. That's the only thing I found in about 15 stores in Tucson is maybe 6 packs of fondue at $9 or so a piece. Still cheaper than e-bay, but too expensive for me to be interested.

Anyone make any headway on a group buy? I am looking for 100-200 cheese rolls total I think.

This would be such an easy promo if each product had the promised cert.

Of course, with this level of uncertainty on any other deal, the sane people would have moved on a long time ago. And here we all are still looking for this cheese.

I checked Bristol Farms in SF (since it is owned by Albertsons). No luck.

Mike,

It's not really a response at all. The guy is simply saying he knows nothing. That's not good enough for me, nor I expect, his bosses in Switzerland.

But does it not answer your question as to whether someone actually called them?
