I am about to book a flight from LAX to AKl and they have two flights, 1 at 9:30 pm with a 777 and 5 at 11;00 Pm with a 747.
Not sure if 777 will have the same "roomy" feel that the 747 offers.
Any advice?
Thanks

ThanksThere are plenty of questions and answers along these lines elsewhere in this forum so try a bit of a search. Try the ultimate seating sticky first.

Humm!
I ran this search as well and i could not find an asnwer to this.
Some body that have actually flown both aircrafts in business class??
I've flown both. The 777 is newer and has lovely bathrooms etc, but I swear that the length of the reclined beds in Business Premier seems shorter than on the 747, mainly at the head end.

Would you rather be at the front of the 747 than the 777? Smaller and more "private" cabin? Or does the spaciousness of the 777 make up for this?

I have travelled a total 11 times on the revamped planes both 747 and 777. I actually prefer the 747 in the front cabin. This a roomy cabin. Rows 3,4,& 5 are my preferred seating. Beware of row 1 & 2 which have no locker space above those rows. The locker space starts at row 3. Also, row 1 is a little too cramped for me. The access to Seats 1a & 1b is a restricted because of the way the cabin is shaped towards the nose.

I'm slightly concerned after reading this ... a colleague & I have got a return flight booked LHR to AKL via HKG and at present have 1 A&K out and 17&18 A back - so that we can try both cabins.
I specifically booked 1 A&K so we could chat more as 30 hours of flying is dull even with a bed and AVOD. Are 1 A&K a lot better for people travelling together who actually want human interaction? Is the lack of cabin storage normally a problem? i.e. do your bags end up being stored in some cupboard 50 rows back? Or is it just a case of walking to Row 3 or 4 after take off to get your bag (which is only small with all the UK luggage restrictions these days!)
When you say 1A&K is a little too cramped - what do you mean? Are the seats smaller? I ask as I am 6ft 4 and far too many Kgs so need the space in a seat ...
Do you have any feedback on the upstairs deck - the only two things I've heard that seem to put me off the upper deck is the lack of toilets and the noise from the crew coming in and out a lot ...
Thanks

I got two seats on the 777 but i was wondering the which are the best seats for two people traveling together.
They gave me 3A and 3B for now. one is at the window side and the other is at in the center. Or should we grab 3A and 4A instead?
Any thoughts??
Thanks for any advice

Re 1A & 1K on 747, unless you get on early and try to use the lockers above 3A & 3K, you will find your bags stored in a cupboard near row 7. Of course those in row 3 are not imppressed to find the space taken up by those in Rows 1 & 2!
My comment regarding crampness is really about the access to the seats. They are very close together and I suspect a couple of six footers could see their feet touching. The seats themselves are the standard size so there is no issue their. A couple would probably have no issue with the closeness.
Re upper deck, the seats you have chosen are fine. The Deck is shared by the Premium economy class who occupy the rear half. The noise level is better than in the lower deck. Also there are two toilets for the 32 seats in upper deck whereas there are two toilets for 34 seats on lower deck so upper deck is marginally better served.

Thanks WoodieNZ
I guess we'll try to get on early for the row 1 flight to make sure we can get to our bags. & thanks for clarifying about the space :D

I got a flight from AKL to SYD on a Airbus 320 but they could not confirm business class seats using miles. They put us in coach, they offered two seats on later flight(2 hours later) with a 767 plane in business class.
3:50 hous layover in AKL is ok? Whay to do? is the lounge good for breakfast or a little nap?
Thanks for any input.

The AKL lounge is great. Nice breakfast, showers, computers, tv, magazines, etc. Even can iron fresh shirt if you want.
The quiet room is no more though, now a childrens room. However if you grab a comfy couch round the back it may not be too noisy for a doze.
BTW when are you flying? If you fly LAX-AKL on NZ1 (777 a/c) arrives 5:30am. The first flight to SYD is 7:00am and the second 9:00am. Factor in transit security and boarding times and will only have 3 hours in the lounge for the latter flight, 1 hour for the former.
The 767 is of course old business class, but comfy enough for short flight. If my schedule allows (rarely the case) I prefer the later flight since the early morning rush at SYD is over by then - the first flight runs into huge queues at immigration, and quarantine (x-ray).

Thanks for the great advice!!
I guess that flying business class using miles will give us access to the lounge. I hope!!
We will take the 9 am flight then.
We are flying Oct 28th from LAX to SYD . Is kind of hard to get business class seats for this route. Now i have to wait a couple of weeks to get our return flight booked since is not loaded yet in NZ's system.
I was wondering if maybe we could ask for our retur flight to be originated in Christchurch. thay way we can see more of NZ.
Never been there and i want to make the most of our vacation.
We are taking a cruise from Sydney to Auckland with one day stops in every city in NZ. Not sure if after leaving the cruise we should go and see the country for a few days.
What city would you recomend to go to in order to spend 4 or 5 days just to relax?

Yes business class will give lounge access. Having said that you probably would get access at AKL even if flying AKL-SYD in economy on the basis of arriving same day business LAX-AKL.
Yes US to NZ/Oz very hard to get business class other than full fare (ie limited availability both award and paid discounted fare).
Returning from CHC - would depend on the rules of the FFP whose miles you are using. Note CHC-LAX is discontinued so would need to fly via AKL (and economy only for all domestic flights).
In 4 or 5 days not enough time to see more than 1 or 2 places. As to where, depends on your interests. Adventure adrenaline activities? Go to Queenstown or Taupo. Culture & geothermal activity? Rotorua. Lush rainforest? West coast of South Island. Beaches? Perhaps Bay of Islands (nicer beaches in Nelson but still a bit cold for swimming in November). Etc.
I have flown both with the last couple of weeks.
17A on the 747, upstairs, mid cabin. Good seat location, slept well, very quiet. Both upstairs cabins were full.
7K on the 777, last row on the right. Despite my previous ramblings of being in the last row, I was very happy with the seat. Lots of privacy, no bathroom or galley noise. The 777 bathrooms have doors and loo seats that don't slam, have some sort of spring loading mechanism.
