Sorry if this has already been discussed but I saw this promo on the Hilton website and wondered if it was worth opening an account just for the points.

I too opened up checking and money market accounts. I sent the funds today to open with their QuickPost feature.
Please post once your Hilton HHonors points post.

I tried their instant fund feature and it didn't work. so I went to the ups store and did a "quick post" funding by mail. 2501 in mm and 1001 in checking, just to be sure I had the qualifying balance for each acct.
funds should credit today or tomorrow.

money has to be there for only 1 month.
best rates right now are less than 6%. but let's say 6% just for fun.
3500 at 6% for 1 month is $17.50
16000 hh points (8k + 8k, nevermind the extra 10k for the CD since you're worried about being without your money for so long!) is worth quite a bit more than that.
plus net bank pays decent interest, so it's not like you have to go without during that month.

26K points, basically one free night to open and close an account... Not worth the pain for me despite my point addiction...

Well it's a nice chunk towards a free night in London, so it's worth it for me!

Opening an account w/Net Bank was like an act of congress. I needed to get an Affidavit of Identification filled out and notarized, submit various piece of identification, such as a recent bill, copy of license, and a copy of my paystub... Felt like I was applying for a loan, not a checking account!
Not for the faint of heart/patience!

funny, I didn't have to do any of that stuff.
all I did was the checking and mm, not the CD.
thanks to the previous poster who brought up the account closing fee, I was not aware of that (too late now) but perhaps this will help others to make fully informed choices.
sleezy to bury stuff like that in the fine print.

Since it's been 30 days since I've deposited the money into Netbank Checking and Money Market accounts, I've still not taken it out because I am waiting for the Hilton HHonors points to post.
Has anyone already removed some $$$ from their accounts?

shame on any of us who got suckered into this deal
I just logged in to my account and noticed that the checking I funded on nov-3 with $1,001 was now below $1,000, and reviewed to see a $9 service charge. Aparently due to the "high interest rate" (oh boy, 2%) there is actually a $2,500 minimum on the checking account.
They are also claiming that I did not meet the balance requirement for this account, to earn the hilton points - even though the balance was $1,001 from 3-nov and 30 days after, and the fee was not charged until 9-dec.
After all of this nonsense, I've decided to close the accounts. Both accounts will have a $25 service charge. $50 to close them. shame on me. and Fornicate Net Bank!

That is terrible! Slimeballs. Did you write in or talk by phone to Netbank?

I just got off the phone with Netbank. I had a SuperValue Checking, which requires a $2,000 minimum balance. If you do not keep the minimum $2,000 balance, there is a monthly fee. I don't know how I got that one. The rep changed my account to a NetValue Checking, which has no mininum balance and no monthly fee.
I have a SuperValue Money Market, which has a minimum of $500 monthly balance. So we're okay there as far as the Hilton promotion goes.
I deposited $1,000 in the checking account and $2,500 into the money market on Nov. 7th. The Hilton HHonors points are supposed to post by Jan. 22nd at the latest.

Sorry for you guys. I had signed up for NetBank after reading about it on Hilton's site, but thankfully never sent them any money. Once I started to re-read the offer for the points and all the fees involved with the accounts, I decided it was not worth it for me.
I do hope that the rest of you get your points though! Good Luck.

I called Netbank the other day to confirm I was in the Hilton HHonors promotion. The Rep told me it looked like I was, however, she would have something sent to me in writing.
I finally received the following email:
Thank you for contacting NetBank.
We can confirm your Checking account and Money Market account was opened under the Hilton Hotels promotion. This promotional offer is available only to first-time NetBank® customers.
A first-time customer is defined as a customer that has never funded a deposit account with NetBank. Because our records indicate you opened and funded an account in 2000, your current accounts are not eligible to receive the Hilton bonus.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Should you need further assistance in the meantime, please feel free to contact us. We appreciate your business and we look forward to serving you. Thank you for choosing NetBank.
Sincerely,
Marcus

I don't remember opening an account years ago, but I must have. These companies that offer such promotions should not have a "must not have had an account ever" clause. How about a "must not have had account in 3 years or so"??

I sent them an email this morning asking if I could have points for having a money market since it's my first time with that product. I doubt they will give me the points, but it's worth a shot asking. The same policy would apply for the CD.
