Hi. I have accumulated 100 points and am eligible for a free round trip. However, when I called to redeem they told me that they already gave away the 5 tickets available for the flight I wanted. Almost every other date I tried came with the same answer. Wasn't there supposed to be no restrictions? What should I do? Thanks in advance. :)

Welcome to FT, and to the world of redeeming frequent flyer miles/points. Every airline has very limited numbers of seats allocated for this purpose. JetBlue is a business, after all, and they need to sell seats in order to stay afloat. Where are you trying to fly? How far in advance are you looking for seats? Those pieces of info. might help people on this board to offer you advice.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am trying to fly in December from jfk to san diego right before and after the holiday season, about 2 weeks.

Welcome to FT!

There's your answer...holiday seaon travel is the busiest time at every airline and all over the travel industry. JetBlue doesn't not have restrictions - they just have less of them than other airlines.

JetBlue does not have blackout dates - however, there are a limited number of seats per flight/date. Holiday award tickets in all markets tend to sell out WAY in advance. I recommend being VERY flexible with your dates. The holiday season is 1.5 months away so it is considered "last minute" for such high peak travel times.

Is there any chance I would get one of the first aisle seats since they are usually not booked until later?

Unfortunately, as JetblueNYFL pointed out, there are a finite number of award seats available on each flight.

If you have tried each flight on your desired date, and the system has stated that there are no seats available, then all award seats have been used.

As stated previously, you can try to change your dates of travel, and usually you will find a combination of days which will allow you to book the award flight. However, they may not be the exact date that you were looking for.

Hope this helps.

Sure, there's a chance. Rows 1-3 is reserved for airport assignment only. Usually, though, airlines try and seat children flying alone, senior citizens or physically disabled people in those rows. However, if there are not too many of the previous mentioned groups of people on your flight, you can grab one of those aisle seats.

But...on a long flght like JFK-SAN, I would highly recommend trying to get a seat behind row 13 (if you can't really score an exit row) to enjoy the extra leg room and rear deplaning at SAN.

I frequently fly that route and reward tkts from JFK-SAN are tough to get, especially around the holiday season. If you're headed to the North County SD area, consider flying into LGB instead. Reward tickets are easier to come by and I think you get out of the airport faster. The baggage claim is quicker, and you just walk across the street to the rental car rather than having to take a shuttle. Of course the tradeoff is a longer drive and possible OC traffic.

There may, in fact, be revenue seats available (the seats you have to pay for), but if the award seats are already filled up, you won't get one of the revenue seats, and the system does not allow you to "standby"at the airport in case a revenue passenger doesn't show up (again this is the same for all airlines, not just jetBlue).

Finally, if one of the passengers holding an award tickets changes his or her plans, which is possible, then that award seat will be available again. You just have to keep checking constantly.

Hey, it's a freebie so that's why it's not so easy to get.

Good luck!
