Ok, so, I think this is all worked out.

We fly 29/Dec to LAX, give the mouse money for three days, then head to Hawaii for 7 days to give the rest of the money away.

That is all frequent flyer miles. But the point is to get my wife and three kids to Australia so she can start her post doc.

The next step was to get from Hawaii to Brisbane. I cooked up a Air Pacific flight (coach) for the five us us with a four day break in return in Nandi. Total cost of hte Air Pacific leg is $7,277 including tax, tags, and title.

As you can see, I'm loading vacation into the trip legs. Can anyone think of anything 'cooler' and cheaper?

Be aware that there is a travel warning for Fiji as of yesterday, there is a military coup possibility and various countries are positioning ships and planes for evacuation of their nationals from Nadi. There have been 4 coups in the past 20 years, mostly bloodless, but this looks to be a bit more serious. You might want to reconsider your plans given that small children are involved.

Yah, I was a bit worried about that. I have some Qantas backup ressies, just in case.

But I was kind of assuming things would calm down by January.
