I didn't see mention of this in the archive:
http://www.airnewzealand.com/airfares_offers/web_specials_flights/flights/usa_to_nz_via_hnl_usd883_15nov06.htm
Stopover Options: Have a stop in Honolulu (northbound) on your return from New Zealand at no additional charge. A stopover in Honolulu is not mandatory however travel via Honolulu with a change of plane is required with this fare. An over night stay may be required at passenger expense.
The price is nothing spectacular: the bi-directional non-stop Web Fares are roughly the same cost.
However, it's in interesting tactic to prop up the seemingly weak (?) AKL - HNL flight?
