The 111 to Blue Line will get you there, but it's a bit out of the way since you go south to Downtown Long Beach and then turn north up to LA on the Blue Line. LGB's web site says that the closest Blue Line station is Wardlow, a $12 cab ride from the airport. It's more expensive, but that will probably save you a lot of time. Once you're on the Blue line, that will take you to Downtown LA. At the end of the line, you can connect to the Red Line Subway, which goes as far as Wilshire/Western and up to Hollywood. Bill sfozrhfco Oct 30, 06, 8:03 am If saving money is the primary concern, you can take the 131 bus from Spring Street/Redondo which goes to Wardlow Station. It costs 90cents. Walking is a possibility if you just have a small amount of luggage as it is less than 1/2 mile. It does involve walking through a tunnel though to get under the runway. There is a sidewalk but it is not too wide and the walls are covered with black soot from the car pollution--which may end up on your clothes. That said, I have done it many times and survived. Of course you could also take a very short taxi ride to the bus stop. Then it is just a 6 minute ride to Wardlow Station for 90 cents. Another option is to take the 111 through that underpass and walk from there to Spring and Redondo--about 200 yards. Long Beach transit bus schedules are posted through www.metro.net. You can go to plan a trip, select the advanced search, then put in Long Beach Airport and Wardlow Station and select walk less than 1/2 mile between connections and you will get the schedule for the 131. Once you get to the Metro line it takes less than a 1/2 hour to get to downtown. Let me know if you have any questions. I did this almost every weekend for a few months at the beginning of the year -- You can also get to LAX from Wardlow Station by taking the Blue Line to Imperial and the Green line from there. It is pretty quick and a lot less expensive than a shuttle. marlborobell Nov 2, 06, 8:47 am So I've never been to Long Beach, but I'm wondering why the 102 to Willow isn't an option. From a look at the schedule and maps, it seems to run much closer to the terminal than the 131 (it seems to stop at the corner of Lakewood and Spring), it has the same frequency as the 111 and 131 (it seems every bus in Long Beach comes every half-hour) and it only lands you one station further south on the Blue Line than the 131. Can somebody local tell me what I'm missing? Is there terrible traffic along its route or something? (I guess it's annoying that it doesn't run at weekends, but apart from that...) SkaterJasp Nov 2, 06, 2:15 pm not local but do fly into LGB alot... but the 111 does stop AT the terminal, cant get any closer than that. Only took it once cause I was kindda wondering where it went. (Really really bored that day) |
