My client and I flew J CX520 HKG-NRT. The crew was excellent in all facets. I was suprised with how the regional service had not deteriorated as had been previously rumored (I hear things often). When we were about to land, my client paid the lead flight attendant/purser an excellent compliment.

My client: Do you know, you Cathay flight attendants are a whole lot better than the girls on Singapore.
Purser: Oh, really? Why thank you.
My client: I flew with them once, all their flight attendants were generic and plasticky. No personality at all.
Purser: Yes, we like to engage our passengers rather than kiss their asses.

It's true though, I agree with him 100%

But "generic and plasticky" seems a little harsh, especially when generalized from the experience of a single flight.

I've flown SQ before and I found the services of FAs equally good as CX. I think good FAs can spot a passenger's need even before the passenger has to ask, and in general the FAs of airlines from Asia are doing this much better than anywhere else.

On the other hand, I've seen many bad services. I still remember once in AC16 HKG-YYZ, a 60+ old lady trying very hard to push her handcarry luggage into the overhead bin. A young FA approached her and I anticipated she's offering help. On the contrary, she asked loudly,"why don't you sit down now and have your seatbelt tighten, we are going to take off soon!" and just walked away without giving any help. It was simply ridiculous.....

I am sure this will never happen in any flights of SQ, CX, NH etc.....
