My wife and I have a one day stop in BNE so we can visit the Australia Zoo :D . Anyone have recommendations for a nice (to real-nice) hotel either at/close-to BNE airport or a short distance North/Northeast? We would just as soon avoid BNE CBD if we can this go around. Ideal would be somewhere on the way between BNE and Beerwah, closer to BNE (Not asking for much, am I? ;)
Thanks!

If the main reason for your trip is to visit Australia Zoo, and you're only here for a few days, I'd be looking at staying on the Sunshine Coast so that you can be close to the zoo, and relax on your off days. The hotel of interest on the sunshine coast, IMHO, would be the Hyatt Regency Coolum (http://coolum.regency.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp). It's about 30-40 minutes north of the zoo (about the same distance as Brisbane is to the zoo, but in the other direction) meaning it's a good two hours from Brisbane airport.
Between BNE and Australia Zoo, there's nothing worth staying in, unless you like the trailer park atmosphere :p In Brisbane there's plenty, with lots of threads with that info.
You may also like to have a look at the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, with places like Alaya (http://www.alayaescape.com.au/) great for a relaxing weekend away.

I quite like the Beachmere Palms Motel.

It's about halfway between the airport and the Zoo, and probably about your best option. It sure beats staying with my mother-in-law who lives in Beachmere! :D

If Beachmere is on your radar you might as well think of Bribie Island-some nice ritzy places there.

How are you planning to get to Australia Zoo? By rental car or public transport?
If by public transport, then you may as well stay in the CBD, as the train will take you straight to Caboolture Railway Station where you will get a connecting bus to the door of Australia Zoo

You'll also be able to get a train from the CBD straight to the International or Domestic Airport.
