Hilton HHonors - Room price exceeds rate posted on door

I booked a Virginia hotel on Hilton's website, and after checking in I noticed that the posted rate on the door to my room was less than the rate I am paying (and I'm not counting taxes, internet access fees etc etc). Before I discuss this with management, I thought I'd ask whether anyone has had any experience with this before. Am I missing anything? It sure seems like a clear violation of some law....but I'd settle for a corrected rate and maybe a few points for the hassle.

You'll probably find them willing to fix the document attached to the back of your door. :D

As a former Gm, the only time the rate can be above the one on the door is in a special event, and then only in some states. If it is a plastic sleeve with a removabale paper, make a copy of it.

A careful digital photograph should do the trick, too.

I'm curious. Did you have a problem paying the asking rate before you saw what was posted on the door? I've always wondered about those notices. It seems a bit of an anachronism.

Yes, paying the higher rate did cause a problem because I know it will raise eyebrows and possibly require an explanation when I ask my client for reimbursement. Today's rate is $110 higher than what I have paid in the recent past for the same hotel, and tomorrow's rate is $140 higher. The hotel is sold out as are the surrounding hotels, but rules are rules (as I sometimes hear when attempting to retain status or get lounge access).

The door notice is an engraved metal plaque and I just noticed that it includes the VA statute provision that clearly requires posting of the max rate. Thanks for everyone's comments. I was looking for feedback before talking to the manager.

It will be interesting to hear the manager's explanation. ;)

Is there an exception noted on the notice?

Grayland, today's official response from management was "oh, gee, we'll have to get new plaques". They indicated that the difference in price for both nights would be cheerfully refunded. Surprisingly, I have received no PMs from attorneys interested in filing a class-action lawsuit so that all FT members can get 50 cent-off coupons good on our next stay.

Well that's a pleasant surprise, isn't it? Now I'm sure all FT'ers will be looking at those things on the door from now on. How much was difference?
