(New York - WABC, October 24, 2006) - Sources tell Eyewitness News that Jet Blue on Wednesday will announce new flights between Stewart Airport and three Florida cities.
We're told that service between the Newburgh airport and Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando and West Palm Beach will commence December 19th.

If this turns out to be true, I won't be surprised because there has been talk of jetBlue going to SWF for a while.

However, Neeleman hinted in the call today that the last and final new city for 2006 will be announced tomorrow - and there is already a deadline on ORD. So, is it possible for 2 new cities to be announced tomorrow? ORD to begin this year and SWF to begin in early 2007 maybe???

Either way, it will be nice for SWF to receive low-fare, high-quality service from jetBlue. I'm sure our good friend Chuck supports this 100%.

Given that Airtran just announced similar service (including Stewart to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale), would this be a wise move on JetBlue's part? Is there enough demand at this upstate airport for 2 new carriers to start the same routes at the same time?

There might be, but I think that Jetblue may try to bounce Airtran from the route. AirTran does not have the brand recognition in the New York area that Jetblue does. It should be interesting to watch.

Hopefully Airtran and Jetblue will start a price war that I can benefit from. The lowest bidder gets my business :)

I knew JetBlue was talking about service to SWF awhile ago, but I assumed that was dead after Airtran announced service. On the other hand, FL announced service on BOS-IAD before B6 last year and then dropped the route before it began operation.

I guess we'll find out in the morning if SWF is the new city.

B69403 is scheduled to arrive at SWF at 8:37am. What time is the press conference?

As excited as I am about B6 moving into my home airport--I really hope that the legacy carriers start increasing service to the major hubs after this announcement. Maybe we can get back UA service to IAD and DL to CVG.

Airtran and Jetblue's service looks somewhat complimentary to each other. Flights that compete head on are:

FLL-SWF:
AirTran: DEP: 5:30pm ARR: 8:20pm
JetBlue: DEP: 5:00pm ARR: 7:50pm

SWF-MCO:
AirTran: DEP: 2:20pm ARR: 5:15pm
JetBlue: DEP: 3:00pm ARR: 5:55PM

And then when you add in Allegiant's SWF-SFB (11:45am dep) and SFB-SWF (8:30am)--Looks like it'll offer great options to Hudson Valley travelers. Particularly with one-way fares that each airline offers--it's really offers a lot of options.

What about ORD!?!?!?!?

I totally agree...What about ORD? I was expecting that today and not SWF for the same reason somedude24 mentioned. I think I may have even mentioned it in another thread last week (either in B6's or FL's- I'm not sure which) that I found it suprising that JetBlue would let SWF pass by to go to another LCC like AirTran. I guess it's turns out that B6 would let it go with a fight.

Back to the ORD issue...Is in not suppose to initiated this week? When's the release coming?

Great news for SWF!....but 1 big question:

What about ORD!?!?!?!?

I don't think this is exactly a big surprise... jetBlue must begin operations to ORD by the latter days of January 2007, I believe the 24th or 27th. So if they announced one last new city for 2006, SWF is it, they must be planning ORD for 2007. Despite AirTran's entry into the SWF airspace with similar service, I think it is also a valid point to note that jetBlue has award winning service and a superior product when compared to that of AirTran, service from SWF should turn out to be a great move for Blue. I thought they were going to take advantage of their ORD slots earlier as well, but as the facts would reveal, SWF gets to be the last new blue city for 2006 and I think we know the first Blue city for '07. Either way I think this is quite positive and fitting for their business model, as well as being a victory for many Florida bound passengers out of Newburg!

oh yea... I can't wait for ORD either!!!

If I understand correctly the difference between 'initiating service' and 'commencing operations,' or whatever the lingo is (and I admit that I haven't a clue), I believe that JetBlue must announce the service to ORD and make it bookable by the end of this month, and must actually start flying planes on the route(s) by sometime in January 2007.

Thus, SWF is the last new city they'll actually fly to in 2006, but I expect a Chicago announcement within the week for flying to commence in 2007.

I wouldn't be suprised if to Airtran re-arrange their plans for their SWF destinations, if JetBlue beats them out on the Florida routes. I could see Airtran changing over to SWF-BWI/MDW (both seem to be focus cities for FL and that's providing B6 wins), along with their SWF/ALT route. If Airtran does go to BWI, would B6 start E190 service to IAD to compete with them?

There going to be alot of demand for both airlines to operate out of SWF. I used to work for the now dead southeast airlines out of newburgh and we did 5 flights a day on a 150 seater MD80 to three florida cites and they were always full. Jetblue planes are always going to be full out of there .Airtran i fell will see really good loads during the summer. Also airtran is going to be flying into a hub witch is going to help them get there loads in as well. Now im not to sure about Alligent Airlines. We will really see how it all plays out when they are both active out of SWF. :)

I'd be willing to bet that SWF will see E190 service to BOS ot IAD in order to provide connections to/from the west coast

I agree with you for two reasons (and that's why I asked):
1) no current service between SWF and IAD, and yes, BOS also.
2) connections to other cities.

Keep in mind, connecting to BOS to regional cities in going to have competition with US with thier connections through PHL as well as people already going to LGA for direct regional service. That's why, when I did pose the question, I asked about IAD (because there is no existing service to the DC area and easy connections to the west coast-LGB,SAN, OAK, and LAS).

I think that IAD is a good possibility--moreso than BOS. SWF historically has had service to IAD via Mainline UA and also ACA/FlyI. Perhaps we will see UA pre-empt B6 and launch SWF-IAD service.

I Think there next routes would be BOS if not boston then they would do LAS vegas cuase that is another popular route out of newburgh, Transmerdian Airlines use to do that route on a 757 and 727 and the loads were pretty good. ^

Sorry to take just a piece of your quote....but thank you! I fly for B6 and love reading on this board how much you all like us too. I'm really proud to work for JetBlue and love showing off our service to you folks who are kind enough to fly with us. Simple equation: you fly, I fly. Why would we treat you any other way?

I've never understood the customers who will give up our service and product for a price difference of $20.00, or so.

On another note, I'm very excited for the ORD service to start, as my kids live off the blue line train that runs from ORD.

See ya soon

It looks like the first victim of impending LCC battle has raised the white flag. Allegiant airlines--which has served Tampa-St. Pete and Orlando-Sanford announced that their last day of operations at SWF would be 1/11, the same day that AirTran starts service.

it look like the #s are in Jetblue out of Stewart airport over exceeding for Pax on there first day. inbound from MCO was 140 passengers and outbound to FLL were 115 passengers. that very good bookings. hopefully we can see some Las Vegas flights in the near future and Long beach CA.

It would be nice to have SWF-LGB service but I doubt we'll see it anytime soon. LGB has slot restrictions. B6 would be more likely to pick up routes like LGB to DEN, SEA, PDX, HOU, or even increased service to SLC before they would go to SWF. If LGB would get another NYC area destination, my money would probably be on EWR over SWF (either one I would doubt would be soon). Also, keep in mind that LGB just picked up 2 weekday flights to ORD which means they have 2 less weekday and one less weekend slot they can use there useless they can pick up more slots (which is not that easy from what I understand) or cut service to somewhere else.
