In August a friend of mine wanted to sign up for the Hhonors Amex. I sent her a link to the best offer at the time, which was the 25000 offer (15000 with first purchase, then 2500x4 stays). I also told her to print out the page because I'd read on Flyertalk that Amex seems to often try to avoid fully honoring these offers.
As expected, after her first purchase she got only 10000 points. She called and was told at first that there had never been a 25000 offer. Then, when informing them that she had a print out of the offer in her hand, they changed the story to 'they would research her account and get back to her'.
Now today she got a letter in the mail saying that their records don't show that she was ever solicited for a 25000 offer, and that she'll need to provide proof otherwise.
So two things:
1) I told her to mail them a copy of the printed out offer page with a note asking Amex to either honor the offer or cancel the card altogether. (Its only 5000 points, but if Amex insists on starting off their relationship on a sour note over 5000 points, who needs them)
2) What do they mean 'solicited'? I saw nothing in the offer nor in the fine print that said that the offer was targeted to an individual? Has anyone else that applied through one of the 'better offer' links listed in this forum had this kind of response, and what was the end result?
