Midwest - Ohio/Kentucky mileage run

Doing a Hyatt mileage run through Ohio and Kentucky:Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Lexington, Louisville. Any advice as to must see sites in these cities or along the route. Thanks.

Cultural events and museums. Unique sites along the route. Rates $89-$139 except for $189 in Cleveland (Rock & Roll museum package). Could stay much cheaper w/Priceline, but yes, it is 2 earns one "Faster Free Nights" beginning Nov. 1.

Cleveland Museum of Art just opened a new exhibit focusing on Barcelona. Gaudi, Picasso, Miro, and Dali. Don't know about the other cities. If your travels take you near Toledo, that art museum just opened the Glass Pavilion, a new building to house their great collection of glass art.

Lexington: Kentucky Horse Park, distillery tours

Cleveland: Rock & Roll HOF, USS Cod submarine, state hwy 2 along Lake Erie
Columbus: German Village, Columbus Zoo, downtown architecture, US hwy 33 along the Scioto River
Cincinnati: Freedom Center Underground Railroad Museum (on the Ohio River)
Louisville: Louisville Slugger Factory, Frazier Arms Museum, Churchill Downs, Waterfront Park (on the Ohio River)

Nov. 4 they will be running the Breeder's Cup (very famous horse race) at Churchilll Downs. Great time to be in Louisville or Lexington. Lexington will simulcast the race at Keeneland, which is worth a visit. Churchill tickets are probably easy to come by as well.

For food:

Cincinnati: If you like Itallian, Pompilio's in Newport, KY (across the river from Cincinnati) is a local favorite. There's also a place in Florence, KY near CVG called Karlos that the locals love.

Louisville: I think there's a great Irish bar/pub next door to the Hyatt in Louisville. Bardstown Road is the local hot spot for nightlife is Louisville. Also try Wick's Pizza, a popular local hangout.. There's also a great little French place at Bowman Field airport.

Lexington: A.P. Suggins is a local bar where, supposedly, lots of big-time business deals go down. They also have some of the best burgers in town. Cheapside Bar & Grill is a nearby favorite and there are a ton of other great local restaurants within walking distance of the Hyatt, many have menus posted outside. Avoid the clubs unless you feel like re-visiting your college frat days.

Columbus: I second German Village. Lots of great coffee shops and restaurants. Brewery district has lots of great places too. Spagio Wine Cellars has an attached restaurant that I've been curious about. Heard great things about Barcelona Restaurant too.

Cincinnati:
I would skip the "Freedom Center Underground Railroad Museum" and head to the "Cincinnati Museum Center At Union Terminal". The Union Terminal is an awesome building with two great museums inside as well as an Ominmax theater. The Union Terminal is an architectural beauty built in the Art Deco style originally as a train station.

Cleveland:
Lots of great museums but I would check out "Playhouse Square". A complex of old theaters that have been restored and is second largest in the U.S. New York's Lincoln Square is the largest. With six theaters you can always find something to suit your tastes.

Toledo:
I second the "Toledo Museum of Art". With the "Art Glass Pavilion" being open now it will really be worth a visit. I will have to get back there to check that out myself! And best of all admission is free!

Choice of museums obviously depends on personal interests but, IMO, nobody interested in US history should skip Freedom Center.

Didn't mean to slight the "Freedom Center" Big Mo! As you said it's a matter of personal interests. I like architecture and the Union Terminal is a gem.

It's primarily an old residential area, but there's a good selection of restaurants and at least one park. It's also centrally located.

Toledo:
I second the "Toledo Museum of Art". With the "Art Glass Pavilion" being open now it will really be worth a visit. I will have to get back there to check that out myself! And best of all admission is free!


Entrance into the Art Museum is free, but the Glass Pavilion charges a $3 admission fee. Well worth the price though, with such a great collection of glass art.

There is no Hyatt in Toledo, Ohio.

The closest one would be in Dearborn, Michigan approximately 45 minutes away.

You could hit Toledo as a part of your travils north to Detroit. Dearborn is home to the Henry Ford Museum and Detroit has the Motown Museum (Hitsville, USA).

Don't know how effective it would be to travel from Cleveland or Columbus and not get any points.
