Utah isīnt my destination of choice, but I had to stay over in Salk Late City for one night and, as Diamond, was very much impressed by Airport Hilton. Booked flexible 76 USD rate and got nice room on the third floor (highest floor in this hotel), two coupons for complimentary bevereges in Club 114 and one for complimentary appetizer - I opted for jumbowings and it turned out to be a meal-size portion of spicy chicken wings with blue cheese dip and fresh celery and carrots. Breakfast (free) was served in Club Lounge, wireless internet was free and airport transfers were of course free as well. All in all - just great. One of those rare occasions when one gets more than expects for his money (and from his HH status). ^

You'd have been in for a rude awakening --- if this was your first trip to Utah -- had you spent any time at the bar: most beer is half the normal US alcohol content, mixed drinks have half shots, and depending on the liquor license type, there might have been a partition between you and the bartender. Furthermore, if they did not have a full bar license, you would have been required to buy food in order to get a second drink! :td:

Eeek! Did not know that. Really not a fun destination then. But hotel was ok for short layover, however.

I've stayed at this hotel a number of times and found the staff and services to be quite good. They do have an executive lounge, but when it's not open they offer access to their club. Great rates, as well.

Just a reminder that not everyone's opinion of a destination revolves around alcohol (or lack thereof). I personally find places without alcohol or smoke more attractive.

Thanks BriGuy, that's good to know. I do drink and ran accross that half strength beer in Tulsa. You had to order an import to get a full strength beer.
It's funny how the laws are so dramatically different State to State and City to City..
Didn't mean to start a beer thread..

Is this based on your stay at the SLC Airport Hilton or Utah bars in general? I actually really enjoy the bar at this hotel, I have probably 10-12 stays there in the past couple years. Friendly staff, nice menu, usually a chatty crowd. No partition that I've ever noticed, and no need to buy food if you want a second drink. Like a lot of Utah bars, they have "high point" beer in bottles if you want to pay a bit extra. But don't tell them that I have a trade-off: the high altitude makes up for the low alcohol!
(Nice smoke-free restaurant in a separated area here too, for the non-smokers and non-drinkers among us!)

I had a little visitor at my room at the SLC Airport Hilton... I was doing some work at the desk and I noticed alittle movement out of the corner of my eye. And after focusing on it the next time I saw it, I noticed it was a little mouse running back and forth between the connecting room and mine. He was active and continued to run all over the room and into the next over and over again.
It was very late (2am?) and while I like the SLC Airport Hilton you can't get anyone on the phone at the front desk past 1am. So I made the trek from the fourth floor tower to the front desk (its a trek if you've stayed there) and the night audit guy just kinda looked at me with a blank stare when I told him about it. He asked "really?" and after I said yes, he just wrote it down and then stared at me. I said "well I guess I'm too busy to move rooms?" and he said "thanks".
It was late and I really didn't want to move. In addition they seemed very full (as does every hotel in SLC this week) and they already hadn't put me on the executive floor which I booked (and they often don't due to upgrading everyone else unless you get there by 6pm). I was in a rush this morning and didn't have time to bring it up with the mornings folks.
Should I revisit this by letter? I'm actually staying at the hotel on Thursday night (2 nights later) again. In my room notes when booked it later today I put my normal, "High Floor/Away From Elevator" and I also was feeling a bit sarcastic and put "Not on 4 due to mice." I kind of hope they ask... I like the hotel and its nice for a older cheap Hilton and I don't want to make a scene at the front desk about mice but I don't know where else you'd talk to anyone face to face about it.

I love the SLC Airport Hilton, but they should have been more helpful and at least moved your room. The hotel is way out in the middle of nowhere near a bunch of grassy fields, so I assume some mice would get in from time to time. How they got to the 4th floor, I have no idea.
I would have put a towel under the door and let him enjoy the neighbors room though :p

I also want to put in a comment about this hotel. I agree with the above positive comments from three years ago (!); in another thread I posted very positive comments about the exec. lounge. No mice, though. :)

Not a fan of this hotel - stayed 1 night for an early flight (6 AM) and the AC stopped working at about midnight. I didn't want to move and just powered through it, but then at 4 AM the showers were freezing...no hot water. Tried to get some compensation at the front desk, they said they couldn't do much because they weren't authorized, but call the GM when he gets in at 8. I called on my layover, and the GM was out on vacation. Left a message, tried calling again, never got so much as an apology from him.

Boy me either. I was wondering if they built a new Hilton out there when I read the other comments. I gave up on that place a long time ago and I used to be fairly regular there. The Hampton is MUCH nicer and it has a descent little restaurant too....well it's not a restaurant. It's just a bar/lounge but they do have a food menu.

I've stayed at this hotel many times.
They have had a long reconstruction going on there it seems.
Overall, it's a nice facility, concierge room on the 3rd floor for HH, small quiet bar.
My two issues with this hotel are:
poor undependable wi-fi service
rates that are unpredictable. $99 one stay and $200+ the next.
No recognition for past stays.
I now prefer the Hampton Inn right up the road from this Hilton.
Not your typical cookie cutter Hampton.

I always seem to get a rate of about 120ish on a Exec King using the MVP rate. This is very different from the Downtown SLC Hilton which is never less than 300 to 250 even with the MVP rate. Unfortunately with my company's lack of hotel contract rates and their constantly lowering accepatable hotel rate (due the economy of course) I'm stuck to under 150 with tax a night.
On another note... SLC's collection of HH/*Wood/Marriott hotels is amazingly overpriced most nights unless you stay way out in the suburbs.
I'm still hoping they ask me tomorrow night when they look at my comments (if they look at my comments)... but the new Hampton Inn in Tremonton is taking very good care of me tonight and upgraded me to their mice free suite.

I just had two weeknight stays here as a Diamond ($120-ish for double queen). Upgraded to exec floor, with lounge access. World Series game meant place packed with folks wanting free drinks while watching - food consisted of chicken skewers and chicken wings, respectively, each night, along with cheese platter (the blueberry cheese was quite something!), raw veggies, and cookies; wasn't paying attention on the booze content, but the bottle of Edison Light from Wilkes-Barre, PA worked out fine for me. Breakfast included bacon and eggs, as well as bread/pastries, etc. both days, so hardly meagre "continental" fare. Room keys came with a sticker (along the lines of): "Congratulations on your upgrade - you've earned it!"
Two quibbles: no way to leave fan "on" for ambient noise, and the first time the clock hadn't been changed, which I mentioned at check out, to be told "We do them as rooms become vacant, and yours has been occupied since then", which I found quite lame as it only takes a couple of minutes, not hours!

I've had the same problem with the rates bouncing up and down and the wi-fi service is terrible, particularly on upper floors farthest from the hotel entrance.

I thought I would comment again here as I talked with one of the new managers after I posted here - they refunded me the money and gave me a 1 night comp in the suite to try it again. The staff seems to have really stepped it up (and they couldn't have all known to make sure I was taken care of) and the property was very nice this time. This is a great way to park before you fly if you're gone for a bit too, especially on the Visa Signature rates (around $50/night).

I would've written the Diamond Desk when told the GM was "on vacation" - that's blowing a guest off in my book.

I ended up CCing the Diamond Desk the same complaint that I faxed to the hotel (and posted on TripAdvisor) the day I got the call from the new manager. While it was annoying when it happened, I was very pleased with the resolution.

Just spent one night there.
King room on the executive floor (upgraded) was nice.
Evening fare in the executive lounge was basic, but far better than I have seen in some Hiltons.
Breakfast in executive lounge was good... hot food for a change... bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs. Looks like there may have been some breakfast burrito-type dish, but chafing dish was empty. Dry cereals were all sugar-coated. The big surprise, though, was smoked salmon with all the fixins'.
Bar (said to be a "club"... but no need to gain "membership") had several good, normal strength beers (not 3.2), but you had to be careful and ask when you ordered.
Agree about the variable rates. Originally had a room for less than $70, for Sunday night. Had to push the trip back a couple days, and rate went to $130.
Overall... I'd return.
Slightly OT... the room had a big flat screen TV. Has anyone noticed that, when Hilton properties put in the flat screen TVs, they retain the old remote controls? The issue for me is that the special functions on the remote (alarm, and sleep timer) no longer work with the new TVs.
