We are traveling there for a wedding in March. We have NEVER Been to Mexico. Thanks SCA Where is the wedding? Did they reserve a block of rooms at either of the hotels? I would recommend the Fiesta Americana over the Hyatt. It is a very nice high class hotel. If you want something with a more cultural experience there are other less expensive options. I would guess the Fiesta Americana should be about $100/day. BTW: I'm having my wedding reception there in Nov 07, so I'm somewhat bias :) JDiver Nov 2, 06, 3:00 pm A nice place very close to the center of town is Casa del Balam* (http://www.casadelbalam.com/) (house of the jaguar,) previously house of the Barbachano family - who opened the Yucatán peninsual to tourism. The staff is quite warm, the house beautiful, and the experience much more "auténtico" than staying in a chain hotel. Several staff members speak English quite well, and everyone's helpful - Mexico is about hospitality, when you get to know it's true personality. Also go to "Los Almendros" for some authentic Yucatec cuisine - very different than what you might experience n the US, or even in most of Mexico. And be SURE to experience "Mérida en Domingo" (Merida on Sundays) - the entire center is shut down to car traffic and becomes a wonderful family-friendly promenade with crafts fairs, music, vendors, etc. etc. (*pronounced KAHsah dell buh-LOM.) UNITED959 Nov 4, 06, 8:44 am Fiesta Americana does a great job blending a Mexico experience with the luxuries that typical U.S. tourists enjoy. I'd go for the Fiesta Americana. |
