American Express Membership Rewards - Scheduled payments (rant) and due dates (interesting CSR conversation)

Some months back, I got a late fee & penalty interest rate after paying a Blue bill a day or two after the due date (but before the close of the billing cycle). I had thought that I had until the end of the cycle (like Plat). At the time, the CSR explained the difference & put the promotional rate back on the account (but wouldn't remove the late fee).

Since then I've been scheduling payments in advance, just to make sure. So this month, I couldn't remember whether I scheduled my SPG payment or not. It's a large bill this month, and I didn't want to double pay by accident, so I called to ask whether it was scheduled. First of all, they have no way to know. More interestingly, the CSR told me not to worry - if it doesn't go on the due date I still have until the end of the cycle without penalty. I pointed out it's a credit card, not a charge card. She re-itereated that I had until the end of the cycle. I related the conversation some months back regarding my blue card, she said they were wrong. I said in that case, can you undo the late fee? She did.

So, does anyone here know whether the policy regarding payment on charge cards has changed? Is it different for SPG? Was the CSR mis-informed and I just lucky?

Also, does anyone know how to find out if you have a payment scheduled?

uh, you dont schedule online? you can see them online.. its in recent payments, the ones that have cleared say cleared, and if it is scheduled it says something like pending/scheduled. and shows the confirmation codes for them all, etc.

Nope - When I schedule on-line I don't see anything until the day they're scheduled for. Recent payments only shows me payments which have actually posted. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

<<When I schedule on-line I don't see anything until the day they're scheduled >>

If you click the button to schedule a payment it will show you if one is already scheduled.

From Summary of Accounts I choose the credit card account I want to expand, click [Pay Bill] and on next screen I see A payment has been scheduled for this account. Edit or Delete this payment, below which is the bank account number, payment amount, payment date and confirmation number. In my experience if this information is not displayed a payment is not scheduled.

This does NOT apply to charge cards where the payment is automatically debited.

I'll try this out - I know in the past I haven't seen this until the date of the scheduled payment.

you make about 30 payments a month!!!!!!!

I would have thought that this would flag your account.

I thought one per week or 4 a month was maximum allowed.
