Hi,
I came to know of flyertalk only 2 days back and for most part of the past two days I have been on the site reading most of the posts and gaining a lot of valuable information. Thanks to all of you for such a great website. In fact the posts here have made me think seriously about a mileage run to get Silver Elite on NW.
I have 16800 Elite qualifying miles (and 20400 banked miles) on Worldperks and I am thinking now whether to take it to 25k to get the Silver Elite status. I have been doing some research into the fares available and obtained some results. I need help on finding out whether there is a better itinerary available or whether I should be doing this at all !!!
Is Silver Elite worth the 2 trips that I might have to take to make 25k?
Some of the details
I stay in kansas city and normally fly out of MCI.
I can travel in any weekend in Nov or Dec.
16872 EQM on NW, 5 segments. 8200 more miles for Silver Elite.
If possible I would like to go to CLT, MSP (I know this is a non-stop from MCI, but a 3 hr transfer there would be great). I have been looking at SEA as an option since the fares were low.
I can travel on Friday evening and have to be back by Monday morning 8AM (Any weekend in Nov and Dec).
I do not know any specific website that would give me the correct availability for the flights. I learnt about the routing rules only today morning. So haven't applied much of it.
Some of the possible MR's I came up with are below. Please let me know if I need to go on two trips to make up that 8.2k or is there some MR that can give me that at one shot?
MCI-MEM-DTW-SJC-MSP-MCI - 5191 mi, $217 all in, (Nov 11, Nov 12)
MCI-DTW-SEA-MSP-MCI - 4366 mi, $171 all in, (Nov 11, Nov 12) - I don't prefer it though since I reach SEA at 9:33 PM and take a flight back at 12:50AM with only and hour in MSP.
MCI-MSP-PDX-SEA-MSP-MCI - 4318 mi, $174 all in, (Nov 11, Nov 12) - I would be ok with this since this has a nearly 4 hr stop in MSP and an afternoon in SEA.
I also searched for MCI-CLT through MSP, ORD, DTW etc. The max I can get there seems to be 3000 miles for around $180 all in. (Nov 11, Nov 12 dates).
I would like to take one trip in November since that makes me eligible for the 5k bonus miles in NW.
Also I have a question regarding NW. I am enrolled in the 5k bonus along with the Worldperks University 2k bonus promotions and the MileSafari promotion. Does anyone know which will be applied? Also if the 5k will not be applied is there any way to remove myself from the other promotions?
Sorry for the length of the post. Thanks a lot for all the information and your help.
