Sorry if this has been asked before, but couldn't narrow search enough to make it work.

So, my question is....is the fee to link a corpoarate card to a Rewards account waived for Platinum card accounts - or is it only the main card fee that is waived, and you still have to pay the fee to link the corp card ?

The fee to take part in Membership Rewards for a corporate card is $75 and is not waived for having another type of AMEX product.

Thanks.

I've been trying to figure out if it's worth the ~$300 to upgrade from gold. The lounge access seems pretty limited for US cards, but the SPG gold has some value to me. I'm not interested in the event stuff. Interested to hear opinions on what else is useful.

Also, I hear the UK Amex plats have much better lounge access than US; how do the lounges know the difference between US and UK cards ?

The "better" UK lounge access is largely provided by Priority Pass. The Platinum card itself is used only for access to a few locations most of which also accept USA Platinum cards (e.g. Continental, Northwest, bmi, and Eurostar).

<< how do the lounges know the difference between US and UK cards ?>>

1. They could look at the customer service phone numbers printed on the reverse side.

2. They could swipe the card to compare the account number to a database.

<< SPG gold has some value to me>>

Bear in mind that SPG Gold status can now be earned by spending $30,000 in a calendar year on the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card. This pretty much negates the value of this Platinum card benefit unless you need immediate status.

FWIW, you may receive some conflicting information about this from AMEX. They used to waive the linkage fee when you also had a personal Platinum, but this changed about a year ago. This was finally confirmed to me after many phone calls with AMEX.

Yes, a few years ago I used to have the MR fee for my corporate card either reduced or waived completely because of the other cards I had and then in the last year or so I was informed of the "non-negotiable" fee regardless of what other cards I held.

FWIW, I was just billed this $75 fee to link my corporate card to my MR account, and I have a personal Platinum Card. Like my $400 isn't enough for them.

I guess I won't bother trying to get it waived.

What's the fee for enrolling ONLY a corporate card in MR? I'm thinking I can drop the Amex Platinum (and any other personal charge card), purchase a lounge membership and come out ahead, given I don't get much value from most of the other bennies....

But if I only have my MR linked to a corporate card, what happens if I leave my job and the corporate card gets cancelled -- does the account go poof???

But if I only have my MR linked to a corporate card, what happens if I leave my job and the corporate card gets cancelled -- does the account go poof???If it's only linked to your corporate card then yes. I think you have 30 days or so to use/transfer them. Then they go poof. I'd call Amex to clarify this.

I got my first amex this may for my employer and along with the corporate plat for 300$/yr I automatically got enrolled in MR for free.
