i have a father in law thats willing to transfer all 119,790 membershiprewards points from his amex platinum business card to me. my question is what programs do yo think will be the most rewarding? i just signed up for an amex starwood card aswell as the priority club signature visa card.
i would stay at holiday inns more , but occasionally i like to stay at a nice westin or sheraton.
thanks

the most value is plane tickets.

for example >

5 domestic economy
1 first class to europe or asia

im curious how your father in law is transferring the points? are you an additional cardholder on his account?

yes i am an additional card holder, but we dont use this card anymore, thats why i was thinking of just transferring to one of my current cards.

when i say redeem for plane tickets, i mean transfer to a frequent flyer program, and then do so.

You may wish to consider a peculiarity of Priority Club that counts all points for status. If you do not already have Platinum status you could transfer whatever amount is needed to bring your 2006 total up to 60,000, but otherwise I do not regard Membership Rewards hotel point transfers worthwhile.

On the other hand one of the hotel certificates might allow you to treat your spouse to a stay at Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton, and if it were not for your spouse you might not know your generous father-in-law.

Err, American Airlines does not participate in Membership Rewards.

These are the airline choices...

Aeromexico Club Premier
AirTran A+ Rewards
Air Canada Aeroplan
All Nippon Airways ANA Mileage Club
Continental Airlines OnePass
Delta SkyMiles
El AL Israel "Matmid" Club
GlobalPass
Frontier Airlines EarlyReturns
Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles
JetBlue Airways
Mexicana Airlines Frecuenta
Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
Virgin Atlantic Airways flyingclub

There are the hotel chain choices...

Best Western Gold Crown Club
Hilton HHonors
Priority Club Rewards
Starwood Preferred Guest

...but note that the hotel transfer ratios, especially Starwood, are not attractive.

Whaaaaat? There must be a BIG difference between the Canadian and US MR programs then (frankly, I didn't even know there were two different programs). All I get are Air Canada, Delta and Continental.

Can anyone else confirm this?

someone else in canada said they could transfer to CX...

there are more than 3, if you are really saying you only have 3 choices. if you DO only have 3, you must have some kind of options or corporate card, because it is certainly not only 3 choices for standard membership rewards.

between NH and CO i am happy with MR.

AA, CX, SQ would be nice, but i can certainly live without them.

someone else in canada said they could transfer to asia miles...Ah yes, that is true. I didn't include that one.

The only way I can a reward on say, Hawaiian is to transfer from MR to Continental OP, then to Hawaiian. It's not the end of the world, but the previously published list is far more comprehensive than I've seen before and would allow direct rewards without the (possible) loss of points on conversation.

Depending on your Membership Rewards Tier, transfer your points to your frequent flyer account with Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines®, Aeroplan®, or to your Starwood Preferred GuestSM account, Priority Club or Hilton HHonors® account.

WOW. i was wrong, and am very surprised at only having 4 choices.

i am not sure i would rather have CX INSTEAD of NH. NH has TONS of partners.

To the OP, if you want to fly American, you can transfer to Mexicana Frecuenta and redeem on AA (https://www.g4.mexicana.com/frecuenta-multilanguage/en/use-millas/vuele/american-airlines/index.html).
