Went to Conradhotels.com and a new addition to there list has popped up-Bali.
Set to open early 2004.
Located on the southern coast of Bali, conveniently situated only 10 kilometres (6.5 miles) from the Nqurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar) and next to the Nusa Dua resort area. Secluded on 6.6 acres of tropical gardens and lagoons with cascading waterfalls, the Resort is complete with its own private white sand 300 metre beach. Embraced in contemporary Balinese architecture, each of the Resort's 313 guest rooms and suites overlook the Indian Ocean toward the island of Nusa Penida, while the 20 private villas, each with their own pool, are surrounded by gardens and lagoons.
That is the summary that the website provides, but I am fairly surprised about this location.

Does anyone have more information on the new Conrad in Bali.
It says in the Conrad Hotel book that it will open late 2003.
I have tried to book room for april 2004, but even the Diamond desk can not assist.
What is the status of the hotel ?

When I was in Bali last month, there was a huge billboard along the main road at the junction to Benoa. Names of all the hotels in the area were listed on that billboard, and the name CONRAD was prominiently displayed.
So we should be expecting the resort to open its doors pretty soon !

They are saying on the website that it is a US5 mil renovation.
I wonder if the hotel is the old Hilton as it is in Nusa Dua. and does look a little like the old hilton plan with a lot of villas on the side.

The Conrad Bali is a brand new hotel, and not a renovation of the Bali Hilton which is about 10 minutes away in the Nusa Dua Complex.
Have spoken to the hotel directly and the opening date is set for the 12th March at the moment.
Looks set to be an amazing resort though, can’t wait to visit

I was able to reserve it on travelocity for occupancy in November. The rates started at about $110 per night.
I checked the rates for some dates in July, and there was a "Conrad Saver" rate of $70 per night for a courtyard view room (about $85 with the 21% tax added in).
This hotel is an HHonors Category 4.

IMO, I'd verify that the hotel is open and operatig during Q2 2004, if I were booked there, and not be extremely surprised if there are some "unfinished" bits or work going on. I've heard Balinese tend to be a bit less rushed than, say, New Yorkers. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I have a confirmed stay for one night on May 9th and promise to post a report. Despite being Platinum with SPG (I will stay at the Sheraton Laguna Nusa Dua the previous two nights) I thought I would give the Conrad a shot at the $78 per night rate.
I mysteriously received a HHonors Gold Card in the mail a few weeks back, and this has tempted me to try out the property.

Having returned this week i will try to summarize quickly:
Hotel is really great. Had a rate for a deluxe ocean view at $ 88 - bear in mind that to everything 21 % tax and service is added. Stayed six nights.
Hotel is all new - and of course not everything works smoothly - but the personnel tries veryhard and succeeds to make up for it mostly.
Room very large and light colour with wooden floor with pool and baech view - small suites and some rooms have direct access into one of the two pools - one large pool to swim properly and one that circumnavigates most of the property - with room access.
Two restaurants - both very good - one at the beach front - with marvelous deck seating.
They will have a 3rd opening in July, which will be an upscale fusion style.
Fitness center: five hotel rooms have equipment - upsacle versions in them - do not know about final location.
Tennis courts have not settled properly yet - little uneven.
Did not try the spa.
The best though - Erdinger Weißbier ^ ^ ^ :D - for those not in the now - proper Bavarian beer (albeight by the botle) with the correct galls even ^ and not the stuff that we will be forced to drink at the next World Championship in Germany 2006 - Anheuser......Pls keep your Bud ;)
Drawbacks - not enough sunbeds at the pool - a bit of a fight in the morning to find one - nice touch when you find one - water and face towels are brought.
Other nig nag was at checkout - tried to get an extended until 18:00 - max they wanted to give was 14:00 - had to pay half day rate to have until 18:00.
Have not experienced that elsewhere at the Conrads I have stayed at.
BTW - am Diamond (out of Europe) with HH.
All in all - excellent - would go back tomorrow. What i found nice were the employees - all friendly and relaxed - good dress code - type of chinos with t-shirt or short sleeve shirt over the T. Created a very relaxed / "cool" for the lack of a better word atmosphere.
Let me know if you want to know anything particular. Regarding breakfast - do not know - did not have any - apart from the bavarian liquid one :D
Cheers

Thanks for the report! I am staying there in early August and can't wait. Did you happen to see any of the other upscale hotels in Bali while you were there? Would you say that this is one of the better hotels on the island? For example, how does it compare to the Sheraton? How about really upscale hotels like the Ritz?
Do you have any informatin about location and traveling outside of the hotel? ie: Were there taxis, buses, or shuttles near the hotel. Did it seem like the Conrad was secluded (on it's own), or surrounded by other hotels? Were there restaurants, shops, attractions outside of the hotel that were nearby?
If you have any photos that you can share, that would be great.

I just spent three nights in Bali - two at the Sheraton Laguna Nusa Dua (award stay) and one night at the Conrad Bali. There is nothing much to do in the vicinity of either of these hotels. Plan to spend your time relaxing away!
The stay at the Sheraton (award) was OK. The hotel was nice but nothing to rave about.
The Conrad Bali is an entirely different story. In a word - WOW!
I pretty much entirely agree with Thomas' recent report. My TV did not work when I switched it on (had to wait 30 minutes for engineering) and the lights were kind of fiddly. I did not find the beach particularly pleasing, and nobody was swimming in the ocean. Some of the facilities (gym, spa etc) are temporarily housed in rooms until the official opening of the hotel in July. They could definitely do with more sunbeds.
What the hotel has going for it is a very, VERY nice and friendly crew of staff. Everybody who I had contact with at the hotel (restaurant staff, driver, room service, reception staff and a wonderful security guard who I chatted with for about half an hour after my late night dip in the pool) went out of their way to please. Their uniforms, as previously mentioned, are cool and stylish. Their smiles seem genuine, unlike those of the staff at the Sheraton, which seemed forced.
The swimming pools are quite enormous and I quite happily swam around for hours. As an avid swimmer, the quality of a hotel pool often determines my opinion of a property. The Conrad pools certainly measure up!
The rooms are AMAZING. Despite booking the cheap introductory rate, I was upgraded to a deluxe ocean view room on the fourth (top) floor of the hotel. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom stylish. It is quite a challenge to figure out how the shower heads work.
Room service was excellent - I had a satay pizza and salad. Wine prices are extortionate, so please try and bring your own bottle(s).
I very kindly asked for a late check-out on the morning of my departure (my flight was not until 1845) and was granted it until 4pm - the front desk clerk specifically mentioned that this was on account of my HHonors Gold Status. I had to pay for breakfast - I was hoping for it to be thrown in for free, but ended up having the USD$78 rate adjusted upwards to USD$88 to include breakfast.
(The Sheraton made me pay for breakfast as well, despite my Platinum status. Maybe it is a Bali thing.....)
Overall, this is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at in a long time. The staff seem really keen and proud of their hotel. I wish them well and will definitely return.
Oh, and here are some photos (http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?selected=877445) - at long last!

With an upcoming stay in 3 weeks, I inquired with the hotel and found that neither the Executive Floor or Lounge is ready for use at this time. They are still being worked on, putting in the interiors, etc...
The hotel did confirm that upgraded rooms -or- free breakfast would be provided, as per the reply below
" Gold and Diamond VIP will upgraded to executive level/club floor or to the best available room. Upgraded rooms are subject availability upon check in. if there are no upgraded types of accomodation, they will receive complimentary breakfast during their stay and if breakfast is already included in the rate, guest will receive additional amenitiesor services.
This seems a bit contrary to the HHonors programs where both upgrade -and- breakfast should be given, but does seem to be in line with KezzaKawasaki's experience.

I have just sent an email to flyertalk@hilton.com telling them it appears that the Conrad Bali is offering Diamonds a room upgrade OR breakfast, rather than both as is the policy of the Hhonors program. There are some taxis parked outside the gate - but Conrad will also call you one - all very easy.
There are no restaurants nearby - just some other hotels. However with the taxi option you can easily go anywhere. There is a shopping bus trolley circulating - do not know the schedule that takes you to the central shopping center - Galleria - which has some restaurants.
I did find though that the two restaurants offered a fair value for quality - same goes for room service - then as another poster said - wine is somewhat more steep - but again the same as for many countries with imported wine. Local wine is not to bad - certainly a differentleague than new or old world but for a beach setting OK. There are certainly old or new world wines closer to "Chateau Migraine" ;)
Coming back to food alternatives - about 15 minutes by taxi and for about 2 -3 $ you get to Jimbaran Beach - and the fish warungs - just go to the four seasons one - and have a brulliant fish barbeque - feet in the sand and enjoy life - there are about 15 stalls all serving fresh fish ^ :D ^
I did not see the executive floor or lounge - but obviously that is clerified now through the other poster.
I can only again second the comment regarding the staff ^ ^
Cheers

I really do not know how they can not give Gold's breakfast. Here is the wording off of Hilton's HHonors website:
At US Hilton hotels, and at Conrad and Doubletree hotels with Towers or Executive Levels, Gold VIPs will be provided with a guest room on the Towers or Executive Level floor, whenever possible. In cases when Towers or Executive Level accommodations have been fully booked, Gold VIP members will be offered either (1) the use of the Towers or Executive Level lounge, including complimentary continental breakfast each morning for the member and one additional person or (2) personalized certificates for each day of the stay for the member and one additional person valid for complimentary continental breakfast in the hotel coffee shop or all-purpose restaurant. At hotels without a Towers or Executive Level, Gold VIP members will be offered complimentary continental breakfast each morning for the member and one additional person. And when in hotels or when paying a rate where a complimentary breakfast is a benefit for all guests, Gold VIPs will be offered a special amenity as an expression of our appreciation.
--> So, if this is a Conrad with Towers or Executive levels, this should qualify. Then again, is this only for US based Conrads?

as per the Bali Conrad's HH coordinator.

Looks like, at least to my eyes, that Gold members get breakfast.
Therefore, no need to go elsewhere.

...and a whole bunch of new Hiltons coming too... Venice (conversion of the gothic Molino Stucky building; Moscow (in Red Square right next to the Kremlin); Cebu (Philippines); Denaru (Fiji); Barbados; Dubrovnick (Croatia); Evian (spa resort, France); Seychelles; Hilton North Miami Beach Resort; Hilton Santa Fe North - Cities of Gold Resort.
Some of these look likely to be excellent additions to Hilton's portfolio
Expected opening dates range from later this year thru 2006.
Apologies if any of this was posted before.. I only checked for Venice and Moscow!

We saw the new Hilton rennovation going on in Venice last week. The downside will be the location. It's a boat ride to all the standard sites. I'm betting that Hilton will run their own boat service to & from San Marco.
It is nice to see Hilton expanding internationally. We need more places to spend our points at! :D

IMHO, I don't think it's too much of a drawback; it's part of the fun getting around by vaporetto & boat.
I read an article somewhere that the local government are considering building a pedestrian tunnel from the Conference/Assembly centre adjacent to the Hotel to San Marco(!)...I can't remember where....
How was the development looking, doglover? I believe it's fairly impressive?

The hotel will be built on the site of the demolished InTourist Hotel on lower Tverskaya Ulitsa. Completion expected early 2006.
Hmmm, don't know if this will be clickable, but it should be cut-and-paste-able!! More info taken from the Moscow Times. Hope it works for you.

The place will be quite large. Right now it's a huge gutted stone building with a large banner hung across the front telling everyone going by on the water bus that a Hilton is coming to Venezia!

At the Conrad now, and I agree with most others that it's a good addition to the Hilton family. The hotel's is water-themed, so there's a lot of fountains everywhere. The construction is not traditional at all, with a lot of black stone, which requires a pretty hefty staff to clean.
The number of lounge chairs seem to have been increases, since there seems to be plenty around the lawns.
As HHonor Gold, I got upgraded to a full ocean view room, at the end of one of the wings, which is excellent. The bathroom, with a giant window into the bedroom was also interesting since you can watch the sunset from the bathrub. Don't worry, the balcony doors are reflective so you can't see in.
Careful with the balcony doors, though, since the latch can close unexpected if you're not careful to turn the knob all the way to fully unlocked. I found myself trapped on the balcony with the newspaper, and had to yell down to have the staff get someone to let me back in. I was actually contemplating how far it would be to jump down from my 2nd floor room. :)
The pool service is also pretty good, with a nice basket of a cool towl, water bottle, and water mist spray standard. Plenty of circulation by the staff to take food/drink orders. The pools themselves are well constructed, using the spillover design so the constant splash of water mixes with the waves. The beaches are best experienced during high tide, since it turns into a bit of a mud flat at low tide.
The spa is still not fully ready, so the treatments are in a couple of rooms, but still good. Silk robes and silk covers (as opposed to the usual cotton) add a nice touch.
Breakfast at Suku is okay, and the staff was polite when I returned the bill with the notation that the breakfast should be complimentary and to check with the HHonor coordinator. Would have been better for them to realize it when I told them my room number, but it's not a big deal.
Wireless didn't work, and neither did the prepaid internet access card. The hotel staff did fix it by giving me a static IP good for 24 hours (as opposed to the 8-hour card I paid for). A bit of start-up hassles, but again resolved in a very satisfactory manner.
I agree with the previous posters that the "uniform" of white shirt/khaki is a nice change from the usual Balinese resorts. A very relaxed feel, makes the resort feels younger in its approach.
Overall, an excellent example of a Conrad and I'd definitely pick this place over the Westin, Sheraton, or the Hyatt.

Have you stayed at these other hotels also? What about the Ritz Carlton, which appears to be priced about $50-$75 more than the Conrad currently? I'm trying to decide on the best place to stay.
With respect to the beach, how does it compare to the more famous public beaches on the west coast?
Could you do me a favor and check how much a hiring car and driver costs from the hotel? Do the tourist shuttles to Ubud/elsewhere stop aat the Conrad?
Lastly, is it safe to say that Golds will get breakfast AND a room upgrade? Did you have to ask for the upgrade at checkin? Looking forward to hearing your checkout experience.

The reason I mentioned Hyatt, Westin, and Sheraton specifically is because I've stayed at all 3. In fact, I was at the Westin for 2 nights before I moved to the Conrad. The Sheraton is like a Hawaiian resort planted in Bali. The Westin is worse, it's a convention hotel which just happens to be by the beach. The Hyatt is generally indistinguishable from any other Hyatt in the continental US.
Of the 4, I liked the Conrad the most. Definitely not a traditional Balinese resort, but it brings its own type of appeal.
As for upgrade/breakfast, I exchanged a couple of e-mails with the hotel prior to arrival, and received the upgrade without having to mention status at check-in. Also got a late checkout (3pm), no questions asked.
Regarding tour buses, they definitely stop at the Conrad. You should arrange it ahead of time via the tour desk. I've done most of the touristy things before so I didn't bother this time - just some water sports directly from the beach. The beach isn't real good, cause the safe area turns into a mud-flat by mid-afternoon. Only a good beach in the morning hours, during high tide. During high tide, the waves wash right up against the seawall border of the resort.

Well, I don't feel that way... In fact, the Hyatt is the only hotel in Bali which hosts a real Balinese temple! It is the most marvelous hotel in the area. Garden and pool landscaping are very beautiful, buildings are built in Balinese style etc.
Hands down the GH is the best property in South Bali!

fallinasleep, I have just contacted 3 drivers for quotes for my July visit. I am going to be staying at the Conrad, then moving to a hotel in Ubud. I consistently got a quote of 300,000 (local currency) per day. 2 of the 3 drivers were highly recommended by FTers and the third was recommended by a coworker of missydarlin. My husband and I stayed in Bali 2 years ago, and picked up drivers on a daily basis. It was easy, but I feel confident that the quality of the car, English comprehension of the driver, and knowledge of local spots will be much higher this time. So are they ever going to post pics of more than just the rooms online?? Despite what everyone says on here, a picture is worth 1000 words. I need to SEE what I am getting into with my own eyes. I often find it so surprising that Marriott and Hilton provide such few photos of their properties in comparison to Starwood. I would think that is the easiest sell, show people what they are going to get! Maybe this is done on purpose for some properties though :-)

Rooms very Conrad- but the plantings along the beach are sparse- the hotels along the beach which are older are much more lush. There is a great deal of water sports activity noise on the beach and the pool area is large and bustling. I woudnt think this is a great honeymoon retreat- but good for families.

Let's get down to important matters: the toys. The Asian Conrads all give us a stuffed toy and a bath toy. At the Conrad Bali you get:
Stuffed toy - little monkey with gingham skirt and vest that says Conrad Bali on the back
Pool toy - turtle
For those wondering about club access, I have been told their target date is to open it on August 2.
For those familiar with the Asian Conrads, this hotel has a completely different focus. The Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok hotels are big city hotels. This hotel is all about the swimming pool. You'd better like kids and you'd better like to be in the pool or by the pool, because that is what you get here.
naxos
Jul 26, 04, 8:47 am
Thanks Droneklax- had a great time and back safely.
Regarding the POOL- the pool is very very large and is the focus of this hotel- while it is situated on the beach, there is not a lounge chair on the beach - they are all around the pool and the swimming area is filled with boats and their hawkers trying to sell transport to some water sports activity. IMHO there is no place to swim in the sea at this hotel. Further down the beach there are hotels with better swimming areas(without boats and jetskis in the swimming area) wider beach areas with lounge chairs on the sand. So be forwarned that if you are looking for real beach and sand, this may not the hotel for you. While the rooms and lobby is pure Conrad, the hotel is POOL and family oriented as far as i can tell.
Regarding the toys- we had two rooms and only one had both toys!

I almost forgot to post my observations of this hotel. I was in Bali a week ago, and while I ended up staying on the west coast, I did take a taxi over to the Conrad to check it out. Although it is obviously a nice and luxurious hotel, I am glad I didn't stay there...
I really didn't care for the location of the hotel. You'll be taking a taxi anytime you want to go anywhere. There is essentially nothing nearby. As others have stated, the focus of this hotel is the pool. Although the hotel is in fact on the ocean, the beach is pretty awful, and there was no one in the water. There aren't many trees on the property either. There was no sense of being in a tropical location like at other resorts.
This hotel just didn't strike me as being very Balinese. Why travel halfway around the world just to stay at a hotel that is isolated, where you won't have any contact with the locals, except for the employees. While you're sitting at the pool, you might think you're vacationing in Florida, or Hawaii, or the Bahamas...

I completely agree. After my first night at the Conrad, it was obviously not to my taste. I extended my stay in Ubud, where I stayed at an amazing Balinese owned hotel, Alam Jiwah, with just 10 rooms. It was magical - an experience I could never duplicate elsewhere. I returned to the Conrad for my final night in Bali. After local prices in Ubud - $10 for an hour of massage and incredible settings for restaurants (lotus pools, rice paddies, backs of temples) the Conrad was a jolt in returning to Western prices.

I took a day trip to Ubud, and I wish I had spent more time there instead! Much more to my liking than the touristy south (not that Ubud isn't touristy also, but to a much lesser extent). The surrounding scenery is much more beautiful also (love those rice fields). Next time I go to Bali, I will definitely explore the rest of the island! ^

My wife and I are currently staying at the Conrad Bali for part of our honeymoon (Stayed at Conrad HKG and BKK 2 and 3 weeks ago; so those are our frame of reference). We booked a whirlpool suite with lounge access. When we arrived on Aug. 1st, the executive lounge was still not finished yet; they are saying in 3 or 4 days maybe. The checkin lady first tried to tell me that breakfast was not included in my rate. Luckily I had my confirmation papers that showed a whirlpool suite with access to executive lounge benefits on the details. I furthermore stated I was Hilton Honors Gold: So she could take her pick on how she was going to give me breakfast. At that time, I politely asked to speak to the manager. He resolved the situation with a significant discount to the suite and included breakfast. He said we will be invited to the lounge when it opens in 3 days. I will post an update.
The suite is extremely nice. Two huge rooms; 3 patios. One patio has a very large waterfall jacuzzi and two lounge chairs with umbrella. One major problem with the jacuzzi is the hot water has to be turned on and off manually by the engineering staff (Big pain to have to call them everytime you want to get in).
Other PROS and CONS:
PROS: Extremely Big and Nice pool; Lots of activities if desired; Nice Landscaping, just needs to grow; Small Grocery market one block away to buy beer and snacks. Staff seem eager to help and please, but you can tell they are still learning. Breakfast Buffet in restaurant is good, but lots of kids.
CONS: KIDS everywhere; Screaming Kids everywhere; Beach is BAD; Lounge Not Open; Need to Take TAXI if you want to go anywhere. No restraunts within walking distance, except other hotels. FITNESS Center and SPA still in Temp locations.
I will provide update about lounge at the end of stay. If any one has questions, let me know. I am also going to later provide quick updates on Conrad HKG, Conrad BKK, Sheraton Hanoi, and Sheraton Ho Chi Minh.

Hey guys..
I have an upcoming stay @ the Conrad (starting this weekend) for 7 nights.. I am currently booked into the Ocean Suite Room (Someone in an earlier post mentioned these were at the end of the wings of the hotel).
For FTers who have stayed at this hotel before, should I stay with this Suite roomtype or change to the Spa Suite or the Lagoon Suite? (although direct lagoon access from the terrace is not that important to me.. vs. people looking into the room constantly from the pool..!)
Did anyone check out the Spa Suite? or even the Deluxe Ocean Suite?
Can't wait...!! 2 more nights of sleep and then off to bALI.
Thnx..

Sorry, not written up after our wonderful visit. Hope this helps and the attached map, but sorry about spelling.
http://gbstudios.sent.com/trip/map.GIF
We had some teething problems at this place and discussed it with the manager who was wonderful and very receptive and went out of his way to restore our faith. My big bug bear though was the limited description of rooms when booking. We had booked an ocean view room but were put into Wing 2 facing the main pool but not directly onto the ocean which we promptly changed to Wing 3 directly facing ocean at end of wing. So here is the room breakdowns
90 Degree Room:
Basically the first room we looked which was nicely designed although rather dark inside due to the fact the room sits at a 90 degree angle to allow you to see the Ocean. However you'd be lucky to see the ocean as there is palm trees and plants blocking it.
These rooms run along the sides of the wings and have a small balcony's.
180 Degree Room:
The second room we were moved to, appear bigger and are square in shape looking directly onto the ocean. The rooms décor is much lighter than the previous and unfortunately appear less stylish, more Travelodge (although high quality) than Conrad.
These rooms are located directly at the end of the wings nearest the ocean with a longer balcony.
Lagoon Room:
The third room we visited and stayed in when we returned. These are exactly the same as the 180 room, but with Lagoon access which actually gives you a bigger balcony and better view as you really can see the ocean from your bed. This was by far the best room in terms of holiday destination, you truly felt like you had arrived. First thing in the morning you can jump out of your bed, into the shower then into the pool all before breakfast.....
These rooms are located directly at the end of the wings nearest the ocean at Lagoon level with a large terrace and steps down to the pool. As for privacy, we never experienced any problems regarding noise or nosey neighbours in these rooms.
Garden Room:
Did not visit them, but guess they will follow the principles of above except instead of a balcony will have access to the very lovely gardens.
These rooms run along the sides of the wings and have a small terrace with access to gardens.
Suites:
Again did not visit these but from the floor plans could ascertain that they were located beside the 180 rooms. These would be either lagoon access or as the standard rooms but with a large rap around balcony. The lagoon access suites also had very large terraces one with steps and one that formed a platform for romantic and private dinners.
On top of this as a Hhonners Gold member we were offered access to a truly wonderful club lounge that is one of the best in terms of staff to guest ratio/service. Although newly opened they were so desperate to please and certainly achieved this with me and my partner always addressing us by our family name (so welcoming). The service is no where near as extensive as that of the Ritz Carlton Club, but its not all that bad. The lounge had several comfortable areas including a lounge with DVD & TV, dinning, board room, computer area, more dining and an outside terrace for dinning.
Breakfast was a very very good buffet selection followed by warm items and eggs cooked to order (and these were truly wonderful). During the day soft drinks where available along with cookies and a freshly backed cake. Then from 5:30pm 7:30pm they would serve canapés (not very inspiring) and cocktails (truly mind blowing). The cocktail service was excellent and free flowing, we would be presented with the full hotel cocktail menu to order as we please. They also had extensive spirits wines and Champagne on offer.
Daily papers from around the world (actually that days print of the internet!) where on offer as were a wide selection of magazines and free internet access (all be it very slow). The lounge really was a haven of tranquillity that left fond memories with myself and my partner.
We ate in 90 Degrees and Spice and found them both very good although extremely quite which was slightly disconcerting and rather atmosphere reducing. The food in Spice is exquisite and the service second to none, some where very special and worth trying for a romantic meal. 90 Degrees was set near the beach and partial in the lagoon pool so all open air, this made for a very romantic yet casual place to dine. Again service and food quality were excellent.
Water activates where plentiful along the water front here so we checked out the price of all of them and found our hotel to be a fraction dearer. We decide though to go with the hotel as it would be more trustworthy only to be escorted along the beach to one of the outlets we had just found to be cheaper. The Conrad does not have there own equipment and rent out from the unit next along the beach!!!! Take a bit of advice and go along and barter for your self and don’t use the hotel for just now, felt really cheated by that one....
My partner enjoyed use of the newly opened spa for some Manicure/Pedicures and found them to be attentive and professional. I toured the full spa and found it pleasant enough although not as big id of like and im not a fan of the segregated pools, saunas etc. I like to share my spa experience, but maybe that’s a European thing!!!
That’s about all I can think about just now apart from what a wonderfully relaxing stay we had at this hotel, its got some way to go, but has already got some key things sorted. Staff and Service are second to none which is worth a lot in my book.
Enjoy your visits......

Hey there...
How long has it usually taken HHonors members to get their points posted from their Conrad Bali stays?
Thanks.

I'll be taking my kids (4 & 6) to Conrad Bali for 5 days. Tried to dig out some info, however the SEARCH is down. In the past I have not seen much posting on Bali either. Do you think they will upgrade me? (I am GOLD). What about their children policy? Free breakfast for GOLD? Has anyone used the airport pickup service before? Is it complimentry? If not, is it worth it? Sorry if I have too many questions, as it is my first trip to Indonesia.

Try the Google search tool to locate two long threads. You should be upgraded (may depend if the kids have separate room), you will get breakfast, the limo service must be new (email them and ask) a cab with family and luggage from the airport to the Conrad will cost around $25-30 one way. This property is away from the shopping and happening precincts (except the Galleria at Nusa Dua just up the road). It is a beautiful property just away from everything else.
Tip DO NOT bother going into Denpasar proper, there is nothing to see.

As stated above, there is lots of info in the previous threads, if you can find them! Bottom line (for me) is that while the hotel itself is beautiful, the location and the beach are awful. You will be taking a taxi to go anywhere away from the hotel, as there is really nothing within walking distance. As far as the beach, there is a coral reef which keeps the waves away, and it's not unlike being on a lake instead of an ocean. If it were me, I would definitely look for a hotel on the west coast...
hfly
Mar 21, 05, 8:28 pm
West coast of what? Nusa Dua? Kuta?. The location is fine especially considering that a Taxi to go anywhere you would possibly want to go will cost less than $3. Beaches near Nusa Dua are not that hot in general, and Jimbaran which I believe that you are referring to is a better beach, but in reality not that super either. There is much more to Bali then beaches, and it should be added that the Conrad pools are some of the best anywhere.

Thanks for the info. I've decided to go for it. Aren't there really no eating place (other than the hotel's) within walking distance? Should I rent a car with a driver as advised by most web sites. I personally prefers self drive, if it is not too difficult to get around.

If the hotel is within walking distance of the Galleria shopping center, as stated in John Cogley's post, there are several restaurants there as well as a grocery store for snacks & drinks.

The Galleria is within walking distance. There are also some nice restaurants in Tanjung Benoa - a short taxi ride.
The driving in Bali isn't that manic, but a car with driver is so cheap that you may as well go for it. You won't get lost, and you'll see more of the wonderful scenery.

After reading a lot about the US based resorts in Bali I opted out of the hotel game for my upcoming stay. I am not travelling half way around the world just to stay at hotel where I am surrounded by Americans. Also Indonesia is very cheap and paying US Resort prices when the salaries are so small for the workers is very unappealing. Have you thought about renting a villa?
Also head over the Asia Travel forum. There is lots of info regarding Bali. Here are a few helpful threads I have been reading.

Surrounded by Americans?? Even at the best of times you would have been hard pressed to find more than 5% Americans at any resort in Bali. These days you'd be lucky to find 1% at resorts or anywhere else. You'll find Singaporeans, Malaysians, Australians, Indonesians (when i was at the Conrad I would say that 30% were from Jakarta, there are quite a lot of very well off Indonesians out there you know). As for "US Based resorts, sorry, haven't seen too many Conrad Resorts in the US, for that matter as the hotel is owned by an Indonesian guy of Chinese distraction, I don't know where you are coming from. Lastly, as for restaurants there are quite a few within walking distance, let alone a 5 minute taxi ride.

As you know, ]As for "US Based resorts, sorry, haven't seen too many Conrad Resorts in the USthe Conrad is part of the Hilton family of hotels. Everything I have read is it is a very sterile Disneyland like version of Bali. My personal taste is to immerse myself more in a local area rather than a big huge Americanized version of Bali.

Back to Laserjet's question about restaurants within walking distance, there is a post in the Starwood forum about Bali mentioning that the Galleria is closed. I asked if this was permanent and was told it is closed for renovations. I don't know if this means that the restaurants will be closed. The Galleria is an open air shopping center with the restaurants on the very outside area near the road, so maybe they will be still be open.

Different properties appeal to different people. I stayed at the Conrad Bali last year. It has been optimized for families. The rooms all face the swimming pool. It should be great for the OP who is going with small children. The rooms have minimal views of the ocean, unless you are fortunate enough to get an end facing suite. Hotels cannot be built taller than a coconut tree in Bali, thus the lack of a view.
I didn't enjoy the hotel. I won't be back. I don't have children, and I didn't enjoy the constant noise. I wanted a more local experience, and found it at a small, locally owned property in Ubud. I will be back in Bali this year; I'll go back to the hotel in Ubud. I will not return to the Conrad.
I love the city Conrads. The Asian Conrads are wonderful, sophisticated properties. This is a resort and quite a different proposition. Many FTers enjoy the resort hotels of southern Bali, whether Conrad, Starwood, or Hyatt. That's great, even if not for me. I don't want to discourage anyone - particularly the OP - from staying here.

I would like to offer my observations, not as a Bali expert since I have only spent 3 weeks ther last summer, but as someone who has stayed the Corad and has rented a villa north of Ubud. The OP is going with kids and the Corad may be what he wants- as others have mentioned. Big Big pool and a relatively large tourist hotel with lots of activity- It is impossible to compare the 2 experiences- a quiet private villa, in a gorgeous setting is one point on which the 2 would differ, since the Conrad's setting is not beautiful. The rice paddies that one poster had alluded to as being planted for the tourist, is in fact a working field- where the guest can observe part of the rice farmers yearly planting cycle. The early misty morning walks directly from your door offers a window on rural village life- which is not available out your door at a resort like the Conrad. Having a pool to yourself and not wondering if a lounge chair will be available is pretty cool! HAving meals preppared and served on you own private candlelit terrace and hearing the gamelan music across the gorge is unforgettable. And while the rooms at the Conrad were very nice- it is a hotel room after all and in a villa you have moe space. It is a different experience- when we arrived at the Conrad after our villa stay, it felt like returning to the city. But there were many people who seemed to be having a great time- maybe they would have felt isolated in teh village north of Ubud. For us it was the right vacation, and while I cannot claim to be immrsed in culture, I had long conversations with the staff- from politics- it was durng the election time, educatin, economics an child rearing- a more personal and easier way to begin to learn about another culture- one on one in a quiet setting. And while the staff may get paid less than hotel workers- and I cannot confirm that- I made sure that our gratuity was generous!
I highly recommend the experience.
Check out the villa website www.villauma.com
I have absolutely no financial relationship with the Conrad or the villa owners.

I have a booking at the Conrad Bali next month and just noticed on the website a triple points promotion code H1. I rang Hhonors and was informed "I cant see that since it is an internet booking". When I bring the booking up,I dont get the option to insert the promotion code. If I cancel the booking and redo it, I cannot get the same rate.

Hey all,
I've been thinking about giving the Conrad Bali a try for a couple of weeks in August. I would like to get a lagoon room or at the very least a club room. I 'm a HH Gold and was wondering about the upgrade process at this property. Is it a 1-category upgrade? Do I need to book club to get lagoon etc.? Any previous experience from Golds at this property would be appreciated. Also, any comments on August weather would be great too(besides the obvious, I know it's hot).
Cheers,

Hi 46 - my wife & I stayed there last year; it was an award & revenue stay. IIRC we had 2 award nights (30k/night) and a paid 3rd night.
I wrote to the hotel a couple of months prior, and requested an upgrade if possible (I was HH Gold) - ended up with a Deluxe Ocean View room & club access. Great deal ^
I did send a couple of follow-up e-mails the 2 weeks prior as well; the trip coincided with my wife's birthday so there were a few "details" the hotel helped with in advance.
Great hotel, nice pool, excellent staff, average beach (like anywhere in Bali).
Highly recommended. Enjoy!

Well, you have been already and I am there for the third time in one month - Diamonds are upgraded in accordance with available rooms, and receive access to the Club Lounge - very nice buffet breakfast with cooked-to-order eggs and more, American and Japanese breakfast items primarily, as well as tea and cocktail hours. Very nice club - also gets you 15% reduction on all restaurant bills, including alcoholic beverages. Superb service and cordial Balinese hospitality.

as the conrad bali is at the end of the world :)
the taxi ride will cost you around 20usd i guess.
better would be to book an option with included airport transfer from the hotel , or to get an airport pickup by the hotel.

The Conrad is about 10 km from DPS and it should take about 15-20 min to get there. I can't remember the fare but it was not much by US standards. If you are concerned about your transfer, consider sending an e-mail to the hotel and ask them to arrange transport: : baliinfo@conradhotels.com

As others have indicated it is under $20 and should take less than 15 minutes unless there is a security crack-down!...then it can take up to 30 minutes.

I've used both hotel transport and taxi - IMO, the hotel transport was somewhat easier (otherwise, iirc, you purchase a chit at the taxi window - some English spoken, but not necessarily by your driver, and you may find yourself walking some distance to get to the vehicle,) and I got points for charging it. ;) The hotel transport will also generally have bottles of chilled water available as well.

Has anyone stayed in Bali Conrad before? How does it compare with The Laguna Resort & Spa?
mikeef
Jan 29, 07, 9:08 am
Haven't stayed at the Leguna Resort and Spa, but we did stay at the Conrad about a year ago and absolutely loved it. In fact, we're in the process of booking for Memorial Day this year.
A number of things: First, as I'm sure you're aware, the resort is in Nusa Dua, which is a resort area as opposed to being in town. In other words, don't plan on a quick walk to shopping. Of course, that's a plus if you're looking for some isolation.
The rooms are quite nice and we ended up in an "executive room" as a Diamond. I'm not sure what that means, but it was traditional Balinese style.
The staff was also extraordinary, which is typical of Bali. They could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We were also given access to the executive club, which had snacks and drinks all day long. There was also an excellent breakfast buffet, which means that you probably only need a light lunch.
The best part about the property was the pool area. Get there early, before 9 am, snag a cabana and feel free to relax for the day. The pool itself winds most of the way around the hotel, allowing you to see the hotel from all sides without getting out of the water.
For what we paid (I think about $125, which looks to be the going price for when we will be there.), it was a bargain and I would recommend it without hesitation.

I stayed two nights at the Grand Hyatt Bali Nusa Dua. To be frank, the place was a bit dumpy. On one of those nights, we decided to head over to the Conrad for dinner. The grounds at the Conrad are so much nicer. The resort feels much more refined than the Grand Hyatt. The beach also seems more attractive than the one at the GH. Next time, I'm going to stay at the Conrad.

We were surprised to see award availability, earlier this month. Quickly booked a 6 day Glon award... still here.
Learned the Club lounge is now for Diamonds or Club rooms only. They have a 66 room capacity, but usually average only about 30 (rooms). Peak at about 100+ Diamonds and stretch the capacity of the lounge. Was told that the upgrade to Club facility is about $30US per room, per day.
We were offered to take breakfast at the restaurant, which is lovely. But the cleanliness is poor and it has been full, noisy, and hot each time we've gone. Service in the breakfast restaurant wasn't up to par with other spots we've been to in Bali. Service in the rest of the hotel was above par.
Free wi-fi in the pool/grounds area (can pick it up on our balcony too) and in the lounge.
An Aussie from Jakarta we met told me they have a family special. 2 connecting rooms, 4 breakfasts per day for cheap (I think he said $70/room/night). LOTS of families and children, but still the hotel looked quiet as it's so spread out compared to the other Nusa Dua beachfront places. Many people checked out after the weekend, and seems Very Quiet. Picturesque, romantic, peaceful.
The beach frontage/width was only comparable to the Grand Hyatt, but beach alone, I'd prefer the Grand Hyatt. Both about 3 to 5 times the beach width of competitive hotels. Club Med also looked wide for beach frontage. I must note that all the resorts are so lovely, the pools and grounds area beat the beach on every case.
Conrad has a main pool. Large, rectangle, very modern. Surrounding this one is another pool that snakes along two of the building wings allowing all the 1st floor rooms facing inward pool access from the sliding door of your hotel room. Same pool connects between the beach and the ocean, deepening to near shoulder height, and becoming more shallow to about waist height in other spots. It meanders through sunny and shady areas, with bridges to walk and cross at narrower points. The same pool continues to a child style pool, then shallows to an end with sand like a beach. The child pool had a Conrad staff with the children, but I don't know if the parents had hired the staff or not.
It's newer and further up Nusa Dua than the rest. About a 30+ minute beach/brickpathway walk from the Grand Hyatt, and about 20 minutes from the Westin and Laguna, etc.

Have anyone stayed there in the plunge pool villa? i can book it for 380 $ per night and recieve 5000 Basis points extra
I did my 9th stay just a few weeks ago, previously I have stayed in ocean view and ocean front rooms, both normal and club rooms. This time, as the whole family (Mrs and 2 x kids) was going I thought we needed a larger room and instead of booking two standard connecting rooms I booked a plunge pool suite and got room 4116. We stayed for 7 nights.
Bedroom: a standard ocean front bedroom with a king size bed and balcony. TV and DVD.
Living room: large room with an extra toilet, a dinner table for four, a sofa and two arm chairs, a balcony, TV and DVD. Two extra beds was provided at no extra cost.
Terrace: lovely terrace with two sunbeads and a (small) plunge pool with ocean view.
I have posted some photos on Tripadvisor, will advise when they get online.
The big thing is obviously the terrace, our kids loved the pool.
As we had kids we could not use the lounge (no kids under 12y allowed) but we got free breakfast for all four in the restaurant (some days I got up early and had bf in the lounge followed by a 2nd bf with the family, no extra charge), free Internet in the business centre and great coctails in the bar at the reception. During the happy hour you could choose from everything on the drink list, only exception was champagne and they provide a lot of snacks, hours d'ouvre etc. So in fact if you like an early dinner you can order food from either the bar menu or the restaurant menu, eat on the terrace and enjoy the free drinks.
All in all a great vacation.

Not exactly near the hotel, but I believe there is a Citibank ATM at the airport (international arrivals) between immigration and baggage collection.
Yes there are several ATM close to the Conrad. Closest one is in the Circle K minimarket 5 min walk (turn left when exiting the hotel).

I will be heading to the Conrad Bali for my honeymoon in about 2 weeks and was hoping for some insight from the Flyertalkers. I don't see anything about a shuttle from the airport but does anyone know if they will arrange for this? If not, what is the best way to get there?
I have Diamond Status and will be staying on points. How are they on upgrades and status recognition at this property? I haven't seen a recent post related to this.
While there we are fully intending to relax and enjoy the property but any suggestions of day trips and particular places that would qualify as "can't miss" while there?
Lastly if you have stayed there, what is your recommendation on rooms (that is of course they provide an upgrade option)?
Thanks for help.

Hi,
I have stayed at Conrad Bali a number of times.
The best way to get to the hotel is to go to the taxi stand at your right after you exit the arrivals halls. Last time (June 2008) I paid 90,000 IRD which is much cheaper than Conrad's car.
Although Diamond I have never been upgraded except once (I have however been given access to the lounge every time). The only time I got upgraded I was then staying on points and was given a partial ocean view room.
When it comes to rooms the garden rooms does not have any ocean view at all, try to get at least a ocean view and as close to the sea as possible. These are OK as you see the ocean from the balcony. The front of each building contain the ocean front rooms but if you get a ocian view room close to them you will be fine.
Kuta is OK for shopping but quite boring. There is also a village called Bali collection (5 min taxi from hotel) where you can get good dinners.

Some random thoughts based upon numerous visits (although the last of which was 2 years ago):
As a Diamond, I always was upgraded from the lowest rate and/or rewards redemption to an ocean-front room with club privileges. I happen to prefer the second or third floor rather than the first floor because there is less noise (although the ground floor affords you direct access to the grounds and the beach). I would not want to stay in a pool-facing room because of the kids' splashing at all hours. It certainly wouldn't hurt for you to send an email to the G.M. advising the hotel of the special occasion and you may wind up getting extra benefits.
Your options may be somewhat limited, since you'll be visiting in high-season.
By the way, definitely take a cab or do a search and utilize the services of one of the highly-recommended drivers. I'd forego the hotel transportation since it's way too expensive and unnecessary for the short hop to the hotel. Yes, the hotel is a ways from the "action," but I've never minded the location.

Although I have not stayed at this particular property in Bali, I just returned from my 4th trip to Bali, and have already booked my 5th for next year. It so far is our favorite place to vacation - haven't been everywhere ofcourse, but been to a lot.
We did go and have drinks at the Conrad Bali and it is a beautiful property. We tend to have a hard time leaving Nusa Dua and our resort (the Hyatt this last time), but here are a few things we have really enjoyed on our trips:
1. Go to PJ's at the Four Seasons, Jimbaran Bay and watch the sunset, if it is a clear night it is awesome. Cocktails are expensive, but worth the splurge, they have these great couches/day beds right on the beach. I'm not sure if they do it every Tuesday, but when we were there last month we went twice, once on a Tuesday. They have a cultural type performance on the beach - think of the Bali Equivalent of a Luau. You can see it from just having cocktails, or you can actually sit on the beach and have a buffett dinner. They call it "Six on the Beach" as there are six huts with all different types of food. They actually dig out the sand (to put your feet) on the beach and put in benches and tables, with tons of candles, torches, etc.
2. In Seminyak there is a fabulous new spot called Ku De Ta - again a wonderful place to go watch the sunset, although you'll have to get there early to snag the best day beds overlooking the beach. We actually went after sunset and just had drinks. This is the current "see and be seen" place.
3. We both love snorkeling so we went on one snorkeling trip with I think Bali Hi cruises, not sure of the operator, but the tour was called "Castaway", they took you out by Catamaran to Nusa Penida, here is the full description:
We loved it. We've been snorkeling in many different places, Hawaii, Australia, Thailand. And we thought this was some of the best snorkeling every. The other nice thing about it is no kids under 8 - so on ours there really weren't any kids, which made it a much more relaxing and enjoyable day. Also it doesn't stop in 5 differnt places, when you get out there you can do whatever you like for the day. Be warned, if you sit in the front of the boat on the way back (especially front left corner as you're facing forward) you can get really soaked, as two German girls and a British couple found out on our tour - much to everyone's ammusement - especially the crew. ;) The food on this tour was excellent as well.
Those are things I would highly recommend. An Australian couple we met said they went rafting up in the mountains and said it was fabulous, the best part of their trip. We plan on checking that out next year. They did say if you do it to be sure to get a tour that starts far up the river, some only start halfway up. The further up you start the more native villages, temples, etc you get to see.
Oh I almost forgot (since this was from the trip from year before last). You must go see Tana Lot Temple, also a sunset destination. The monkey forest is fun too, or the monkey temple.
Finally another place that is supposed to be fab for drinks is the Bulgari Hotel, we did not make it there - next year.
Besides all that enjoy yourself. I can't wait to go back. We actually met people in Phuket right before we went to Bali and we were raving about it so much that the lady said "You should work for the Bali Tourism Bureau - because I'm sold and want to go right now."
Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try to answer them.

Hi congrats on your pending nuptuals, I think you'll have a fabulous time in Bali. We stayed there 2 years ago and loved it so much we're going there for New Years. I can't wait!!! My screensaver is a picture of a rice field on the way to UBUD, and everytime I turn on my computer I'm reminded of one of my best vacations ever.
I second the ocean view, the sunsets are just spectacular. Although I would love to have had a room w/ direct access to the pool, that surrounds the property, some of the ground floor rooms have direct access, and they also have rooms w/ private plunge pools, but it appears these are on the side of the hotel so no view of the ocean:(.
The spa is nice, although I know you can get treatments cheaper elseware, but still a nice location. I can't remember thought if it's free to use their infinity pool, or free for diamonds. In any event a nice location and quite since it's away from the main pools.
The exec loung is the best Hilton one I've been too, not sure of your status, but I would pay for it, if they didn't offer it too me. Free made to order breakfast, w/ wonderful tropical fruits and other goodies, snacks at tea time and free cocktails and aps at dinner (also free wifi, it cost money in the rooms). WELL WORTH IT.
The restaurant I really enjoyed is Bambu Bali, in Nusa Dua. Yes it's a little touristy, but it had wonderful Balinese food that's making my mouth watter for now (they have a free shuttle that the hotel will arrange for). Also the hotel has a free shuttle that will take you to the Bali Collection (think semi high end stores), but also a good place to stock up on supplies like drinks, and snacks, so I would suggest you go there once. I wouldn't buy other stuff there, since you'll find it cheaper elseware.
Lastly, I have to say that the Balinese were by far the most friendly and genuine people I have ever meet. This is one of the resons I loved it so much, and can't wait to go back.

Not entirely correct. I stayed in a Room with plunge pool and it was the 4th floor corner room, i.e. corner between ocean front and ocean view. Sorry, didn't know that. Maybe their marketing has gotten better. As I always say to my customers when they look at a product and ask "Is this new?", even if it isn't I'll respond "If you haven't seen it before then it's new to you." - most of them get a kick out of that.

What kind of upgrades have Gold/Diamond members been given?
I am looking to book a reward stay for 3-4 days and seems like they will book me either a Deluxe Garden or Deluxe Ocean. Have you gotten upgraded to Conrad Suites or Penthouse?
Do they provide for transportation to/from the airport?
What is the policy on checkout? My flight leaves at midnight from DPS. I am trying to think whether I should book till the day before or day after? I dont know the lounge availability or policy at DPS, but doesnt seem to be worth staying there for 6 hours even if I can checkout at around 4/5pm.

At my stay in Jan (I was Gold t that time), we were upgraded to a suite and had lounge access.
Do they provide for transportation to/from the airport?
They had a possibility, but it was much more expensive, than taking a "normal" taxi. And it's just a shot drive.

I'm not sure about the time we had to check out, but we used the showers at the spa and stayed a bit at the hotel lounge, because it was nicer than the airport.

Yes there are several ATM close to the Conrad. Closest one is in the Circle K minimarket 5 min walk (turn left when exiting the hotel).
Beware of that Circle K. I never use my VISA charge card except for small purchases at Starbucks, etc. This was the only place in Bali that I had used the card. Approximately six months later I was blocked at Starbucks for my morning coffee. This blew me away and when I got home I called the credit card company and found out that somebody had gone on a spending spree ordering computers, games, etc. from some stores in Jakarta.

Without knowing the age of the child, it's difficult to say - but it is indeed often stated around here that Hilton will decline to book but members have no problem with small children or infants sharing. Most properties seem much more child friendly than the Hilton booking personnel and terms, thank goodness; I seem to recall a number of people sharing with children at this property.
This property lists:
"Children Services & Amenities
* Babysitting Service
* Child Care Center
* Children's Activities
* Children's Menu
* Cribs
* Family Package Offered
* High chairs
* Playground"
This link (http://conradhotels1.hilton.com/en/ch/hotels/contactUs.do?ctyhocn=BPNCICI)lists and links to a number of personnel at the Bali Conrad you can e-mail and ask directly.

I checked in today and as a diamond was upgraded to a lagoon ground level room which I like. However, the downstairs executive lounge has now become a 'departure lounge' and diamond members can only have breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails from 5-7pm at the upstairs Spice restaurant. There is a small buffet and some computers in the corner. However, its not a bad thing as at least there is some outlook (view) compared to the old downstairs executive lounge. After 7 pm you can stay at Spice and have tea coffee etc to 11pm
I suspect the change has come about due to the opening of the new Conrad suites. From tomorrow 10 Jan until 23 Jan the Spice restaurant is closed for rennovations so we can access thr Conrad Suites club lounge, so will be very ingteesting to sample that and see how it compares.
I was told that diamond members wikll mnot be upgraded to the Conrad Suites.

I am currenty at the Conrad CSites club. Suites guests can come here (diamond HH only until 24 Jan). On arrival you are presented with an extensive drinks menu incl cocktails. Wines are Chilean (Matipo valley) but not too bad.
Hot and cold canapes are serves in large dishes at the tables, there is also a small buffet of cold meats cheeses olives etc.
Upstairs where I had bfast this morning was a small buffet breakfast with hot offering cooked in the kitchen downstairs.
the lounge was half full with main asian expats and a scattering of Japanese honey mooners (their photos being taken with the food and alcohol gave it away).
I had a 6pm late check out and came to the lounge after that to fill in time before my 10.50pm departure to Darwin.

Hi Guybaxy,
I not sure I fully understand what you wrote about the exec lounge becoming a 'departure lounge'? Is there no lounge access now for diamonds not staying in a Suite but instead there is complimentary service in a restaurant/bar type area? Sorry if I'm just being a bit slow in understanding this ;)
I'll be there for a 6 night reward stay in April, by the way.

The lounge is 'in' Spice Restaurant. It's basically the club lounge for breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and is available all day for soft drinks, then at 7pm it 'becomes'/opens as Spice Restaurant. Club lounge guests can also have afternoon tea in East in the lobby area.
We got full lounge access no problem as Diamond after booking a standard room.

The Conrad Bali "was" my favorite Property for several years. I spent 5 nights there following Sin Do and feel that service has fallen way off.
Several others have reported that there is no longer a dedicated Exec Lounge. To me, they have abandoned showing preference to Diamonds and people who book Exec Rooms. Now it's all about the Suites.
Another FTer was staying at the Hyatt. We missed connecting for a whole day because I was NOT given his messages.
Despite having the Do Not Disturb sign lit, someone came into my room to deliver laundry just as I had emerged from the shower! I KNOW for certain that the DND was lit, as I pointed to it as I was SCREAMING at the guy. (I did manage to grab my robe, BTW, as I heard the door open.)
Although I had a pre-paid rate, at check-out I was presented a bill for approx. USD150, as FX conversion! That was a half hour out of my life that I'll never get back.
And the kicker is, I wrote to Management upon my return home. Was told he would have someone look into it and revert. 3 weeks later, I'm still waiting.
Meanwhile, I just returned from the Hilton Fiji and can't say enough FANTASTIC things about it!
Clearly each person's experience varies. However the lack of Management concern and follow-up in Bali, will cause me to not return ANYTIME soon.

Wow. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. But FWIW, we just returned from a 7-night award stay there, and am happy to report that we had a VERY different experience.
I felt they bent over backwards to make our stay special. As soon as we arrived, one of the doormen asked my name as the valet was helping us unload our bags from our car. He then ran into the lobby, and as we walked toward the entrance, we were greeted by a gentleman who escorted us to a sofa in the lobby to personally handle our check-in. We were immediately brought two drinks and cold moist towels by another employee. We were informed that we had been upgraded to an ocean-front room, and that we would have access to the club lounge, free breakfast either in Suku restaurant, or the lounge, and a number of other bennies--discounts on Spa services, food purchases, etc.
When we got to our room, there was a personal note from the manager congratulating us on our anniversary, and there was a tray on the bed on which there was a white rose and a basket full of rose and plumeria petals for a flower bath. Very nice touch.
Minutes after we arrived at our room, a man came to our door to present us with a bottle of Champagne. We thanked him profusely, but explained that we don't drink alcohol. A few minutes later, we got a phone call saying that since we didn't want the Champagne, would it be alright if they sent us a cake instead? We thanked them, and asked if they could wait until the next evening to send the cake, since we were pretty tired at that point from the flight. The next evening, they sent over a lovely (and delicious) cake with "Happy Anniversary" written on it. Another very nice touch.
During our whole stay there, ALL the employees--from the front desk staff, to the restaurant servers, to the lounge attendants, to the valets, to even the groundskeepers--everyone we met never failed to greet us with a smile as we passed by. BY FAR, the most friendly hotel staff we've ever encountered.
I particularly had a lot of fun interactions with the valets. Maybe it was just my skewed perception, but I got the feeling that they were somewhat amused (and impressed) that I rented a car and was driving myself around instead of hiring a local driver, or cabbing it like most other guests. They seemed genuinely interested each morning to hear where we planned to go that day, and were eager to provide suggestions and help plan the best routes. In the evening as we returned, they seemed genuinely interested to hear about our trip.
(As a side note, I would STRONGLY suggest to anyone else who thinks they want to rent a car and drive themselves around on Bali, that they think LONG AND HARD about that decision. Driving in Bali should only be done by people with a strong thirst for adventure, and total lack of fear behind the wheel--and preferably a lot of experience driving in 3rd world countries. Seriously. Trust me. I thought I was well prepared for it after having spent several years in Taiwan back in the 80s when driving was pretty crazy there. It still is crazy in Taiwan today, but not as bad now as it was 25 years ago. And Taiwan 25 years ago was NOTHING like Bali today. And as if the insane driving conditions weren't enough of a challenge, add the novelty of a right-hand drive car (my first experience with that) and the fact that road navigation signs are very sparse on Bali--so plan to get lost A LOT--and you have the makings of a very challenging driving experience.)

While we were there, Spice was closed, and were allowed access to the Club Lounge in the Conrad Suites building, above the RIN restaurant. Breakfast and evening cocktails were served at RIN. I spoke with one of the managers at RIN, and she said that because the current number of guests with lounge privileges was so low, that they closed Spice and opened up RIN (and the lounge upstairs) for all guests with lounge privileges. She said that they wouldn't open Spice back up until they had more than 100 guests with lounge access. RIN was a long walk from our room, so we always took our breakfast at Suku, with was fine for us. We did go to RIN a few times for evening drinks & canapés, and we used the upstairs lounge for Internet. I must say, the week we were there, it did seem that there were not very many guests at the hotel. The massive pools rarely had more than a couple people in them at a time, and we never had any trouble finding an open Bale (beach cabana). It was sad to see that business seemed down for them, but it was nice to basically feel like we had the property to ourselves and a handful of other guests.

Just back from a 6 night reward stay. Overall, we found this place to be outstanding. The resort is beautifully designed and the food and service are excellent.
Once through the slightly off-putting security check at the entrance, the approach to the property is very impressive. Check in is handled on a sofa in the bar with moist towels and a refreshing drink in hand. We weren't upgraded as far as I could tell but as a Diamond we were given lounge access as well as a 15% discount on all facilities at the hotel including restuarants, bars, laundry, room service and spa treatments.
Our room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the main pool area with a balcony and a particularly large bathroom. The room is laid out diagonally (that's the best way I can describe it; think of a parallelogram) which makes it feel less like the usual hotel room. Looking at the floor plan on the door it seems like these rooms are a bit bigger than some of the other rooms which are a more regular rectangular shape. I'm pretty sure it's still the basic room type though. I found it a little disappointing not to be upgraded seeing as the we were told later on that the hotel was just about 60% full. There was a note from the hotel in our room saying that as a Diamond VIP the room was specially selected for us. I'm not too sure what that means.
Anyway, the lounge, as mentioned in the previous post, is in RIN, which is part of the Suites area which is nominally exclusive to guests staying in the Club Suites. RIN overlooks a beautifully designed but relatively small infinity pool with lots of loungers and four-poster bales. Breakfast is served downstairs, either inside or outside and afternoon tea and cocktails are served upstairs, either inside (where the computers with complimentary internet access are located) or outside on a beautiful verandah (just watch out for the mozzies once the sun goes down). Service all day in the lounge is friendly and very helpful.
We had breakfast every morning in RIN which was so good I almost didn't struggle to get out of bed. There's a buffet to complement a menu with a pretty wide choice. There's also afternoon tea from 1430 to 1630 and cocktail time from 1700 to 1900. We found that if you had a big meal either at lunchtime or in the evening, then the food served with either afternoon tea or cocktail hour would be enough for your other meal. I can also highly recommend the mojitos :)
The main pool area is very pleasant and service there is excellent too. Staff will bring you beach towels, chilled water and moist hand towels and help you find a free lounger or bale if it's busy. I also liked that they keep a sharp eye out for people 'reserving' loungers and will remove belongings from a lounger or bale left unattended for more than an hour. As well as the main pool there is a pool that snakes around the grounds and has lots of nooks and crannies where you can wallow in the shade. The pool is open 24 hours a day and I'd highly recommend a late night swim when you have the pool to yourself with only the sounds of the resident frogs.
We tried the 8 Degrees South restaurant which has a pretty extensive menu with a wide choice of fish cooked in a local style as well as European, US and Japanese dishes such as pizza, paella and tepanyaki dishes. We didn't try any of the other restaurants but did get Japanese bento boxes from room service a couple of times which were fantastic and good value.
We also hired a driver from the hotel, once for a full day and once for a morning. We spoke to a few local taxi drivers and one of the main local taxi companies (Blue Bird) to get rates and the Conrad's own car and driver charter service is competitive. They are a bit more expensive than the best rate we could haggle from the others with the added bonus that you feel a lot less likely to be dragged to the driver's brother's/cousin's/brother-in-law's shop/restaurant/tourist trap. We had a very friendly and knowledgeable driver both times who helped us put together an itinerary for the two trips we made.
The main drawback of the Conrad (although it is common to most of the big resorts in Bali) is that it is in the overcrowded, over-commercialised southern part of the island. We wanted to see the beautiful countryside and the smaller towns and villages of the island and this required a one and a half hour crawl through the traffic of the resorts and Denpasar. Bali has a deserved reputation for its stunning scenery and unique architecture but you have to make an effort to see the best of them if you're staying in the southern part of the island. Of course, almost all of the resorts comparable to the Conrad are in roughly the same location.
The other drawback of this resort, and all of the resorts in Nusa Dua, is that the beach is pretty poor. The sand was trucked in and there are no waves to speak of (the western coast is the surfers' paradise). When the tide goes out it's not pretty to look at either.
I'd recommend an evening dinner on the beach at Jimbaran where you can watch the sun set over the bay while fishing boats bob on the tide and jets land in the nearby airport.
Most local restaurants will send a driver to collect you and drop you back to the Conrad at no extra charge.
One other thing: it was my wife's birthday when we were there and the hotel dropped in a lovely cake along with candles, which we though was an excellent touch.
So, a really top class resort and a very enjoyable stay.

great commentary! I also stayed at the Conrad Bali for 2 nights at the beginning of April 09 and being Diamond they gave me the perks you mentioned however I have been a repeat visitor to the hotel and had sent a note prior to my arrival and they upgraded me to a king oceanfront room on the 3rd floor.
Can't wait to visit the property again.

+1 with Skyman65 and tonto_b...
everything for us at Conrad Bali has been as he's described, which is essentially outstanding.
For comparison, we have very much enjoyed the Hilton Arc de Triumph Paris, Hilton Cavalieri, the Waikaloa, and Cabo Hilton, all of which are very different, but good or excellent in their own ways. I also spend considerable time each year at the 4 Seasons in Punta Mita, Mexico, and its to that property that I would compare it to most, with 2 big differences as indicated following.
I can say with confidence that there are few 5 star Hilton properties that can compare to this supposedly 4 star property. The 2 things IMHO which keep it from being the finest place to vacation ever for us is simply that its on a mediocre beach and crammed so close to the road and other resorts (Nusa Dua is a zoo), and the 2nd thing would be that there are a lot of rooms. Having a lot of rooms is not an issue aesthetically, as the buildings and rooms are beautiful, but i suppose that when they are at or near capacity the place must be crowded (thats my deduction only... wasn't crowded at all while we were there, and it was idyllic). But those two little negatives must be what cause it to be a great value for cash or points, and both can be negated with a little planning, therefore the net effect CAN be that its a un-beatable place to vacation.
At the moment Rin restaurant is the Diamond lounge, and is in the Suites area of the hotel, but I believe i understand that Spice will re-open as a dedicated lounge on the 18th of May, though it sounds like it may not be called Spice anymore.
The restaurants have all had great food, service, and even price. While pricing is cheaper just next door or across the street at any number of other restaurants/bars, compared to most other higher end resorts we've been to (per 1st paragraph), the pricing here is actually very reasonable. The oddball thing is the alcohol... $5.80 for a local beer is not out-of-line compared to the 4-seasons, but when you consider that the food here at the Conrad is about half the cost of the 4-seasons, it then seems odd that the alcohol is priced so high comparatively. And the wine... truly out-of-whack expensive.
That reinforces what a great value it is to be able to take part in the cocktail hour from 5-7pm, whether via Diamond status, or i believe you can pay for it, and I also believe you get it automatically if you stay in the new suites. We are Diamond and we stayed in the suites, and we had an excellent breakfast and cocktail hour available each day, which we truly enjoyed.
The Balinese dancers which perform at Suku 3 times per week are excellent. Not really my thing, but the group that does what apparently is a dance about bumble bees (so says the flyer) are truly impressive. I've seen too many other such shows (hula dancers, etc), which have never impressed, but this group of Balinese we watched at Suku for their weekly performance were excellent.
As mentioned, we stayed in the new "suites" area of the hotel, and it was exceptional. Only thing we thought was odd that was missing was a Bose wave radio or equivalent. Rooms are beautiful and large. We asked to see a regular room at the non-suites part of the hotel, and it was also very, very nice, and just smaller.
The staff here has been exceptional in their work and presentation. The "lapses" mentioned by some in this thread have been totally absent during our visit, though i suppose that even the best staff may get a little testy at the end or middle of a busy season? In fact, the people here have been more genuinely pleasant and helpful than anyplace else I've ever been, and it truly doesn't seem fake. We've stayed in the last year at a couple new St. Regis resorts, and while we loved them, the staff was way over-reaching in their desire to "serve", to the point of it being a true nuisance. Conrad Bali folks were on the spot, but never in our way.
Took a cab to Kuta beach ($10 w/tip), and then walked about an hour up to Seminyak, watching the sun set along the way. Worth seeing, and fun, but crowded and hectic. Hotel Elysian restaurant, on the south end of Seminyak and off the beach about a block (bit hard to find), offered an interesting and enjoyable dinner in their funky/upscale pool-dining-bar area.
The checkout process was wonderfully simple, with no surprises, and again, with wonderfully courteous employees.
We'll be back.

How are HH Gold treated here at the resort? I am thinking of a three night reward stay there... and I had just lost my Diamond status. :( Since I can save HH points for AXON award in Tahiti or Maldives in the near future (I have about 125K HH points), I can see if I can swing my SPG points with cash/points awards for four nights in Bali (Westin or Nusa Dua) - I am SPG Platinum.

The AXON reward level for cat. 6 has been changed, now it requires 125k for 4 nights at any cat 5 (AXON5), and 145k for 4 nights at any cat 6 (AXON6).

Headed to the Conrad Bali for a 4 night stay in two weeks and would like to know if anyone has used their spa services recently. Any recommendations? Thanks for all the wonderful information on the hotel from prior posts, looking forward to the visit.

[QUOTE=brahms77;11790744]How are HH Gold treated here at the resort? /QUOTE]
Mrs. Cheex and I are returning from a 6 night award (150k points). I am HH Gold. We were given full access to the Club Lounge, 15% off all spend on property and an upgrade to a garden access room. It is policy that Gold and Diamond have access to the lounge.
The lounge is in the former Spice restaurant space. It has a patio with 5 tables (although it could fit alot more?) and umbrellas. Breakfast is made to order eggs, waffles, pancakes etc and then buffet for fruit, yogurt, cereal and breads. The hotel breakfast is normally $22ish dollars (plus 10% Bali tax plus 10% resort tax) so it is a nice offering in the lounge. You do have the ability to take breakfast in the Suku lounge if desired. Breakfast hours are 7-11am.
Afternoon team is 2:30-4:30 and was fantastic. Wonderful sandwiches and breads and snacks. Non-alcoholic drinks are served.
Cocktails are from 5-7 and fantastic. A VERY large drink selection from Johnnie Walker to Mai Tai's. We went every night. Nice passed appetizers and also a selection of cheeses and breads. The drinks on property are fairly expensive so the cocktail hour is a nice way to save some money.
The staff in the lounge called most people by name and certainly remembered the "regulars". On property, the staff was incredibly friendly, professional and service oriented. We really enjoyed our stay.
A few general comments:
- The beach bales are wonderful but in order to get one require going out no later than 7:30am as they fill up quickly and there are only 12 of them or so. I would HIGHLY recommend getting up early, putting your bag on the Bale (the staff will save it for you for 60 minutes and then move your things - they do this often), going to get breakfast and returning to the bales. They are essentially king sized beds with a roof and shades. We loved them.
- The hotel spa is very nice and the staff very professional. That said, there are many spas within walking distance of the hotel and several others that provide pick up service from the hotel (free and no tip required to driver). The 60 minute massages at the local places were $14. We went several times to Tunjung Sari SPA (exit the hotel and down 100 meters to the right). It is not Golden door, but for $14 you will be pleased.
- dinner at Suku is not cheap but actually very good. Go on Tuesday night and they have traditional Balinese dancing and music. We thought it was nice.
-Airport transfer from hotel is $18 each way. Probably worth it upon arrival to DPS as to avoid the long taxi line and hassle.
- The pool(s) areas is very nice and well maintained. We had fun swimming around in all of them. They are quite large (big as I have ever seen at a hotel).
- The beach looks great but going in the water is a little challenging. 1) their is alot of sea grass in the area near the shore so it is not much fun to walk on 2) in the morning there are an incredible amount of jet skiers and motor boats whizzing by 3) when the tide goes out, it goes WAY out. You see all the grass. We did not mind as we generally do not go in the ocean for an extended period of time but we would have liked the option.
-Most restaurants offer free pick up service so do not worry about the location of the Conrad being "out of the loop". We found it fine.

No trip report I'm afraid, my humble apologies (yes....I'm being lazy!), but I recently enjoyed a relaxing break in one of the newish Conrad Suites.
'Click here' (http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyingoncemore/sets/72157622556710626/) for a set of photos dedicated to that area of the hotel. Hopefully you'll get more out of them than a lot of written waffle from me. More general photos of the rest of the hotel to follow soon.........
I will gladly answer any queries, but in short......yes, I thought the Suites were excellent.

great pics flyingoncemore!
thanks.
I was wondering if you paid for the conrad suites or upgraded to them? Do Diamond members get upgraded to these rooms?
Do they serve complimentary alcoholic drinks in the lounge? If so, are you able to order any free anytime of the day or only during certain hours?
Do Diamond or Gold members get lounge access to the Conrad Suites lounge even if they do not get upgraded to those suites?

I was wondering if you paid for the conrad suites or upgraded to them? Do Diamond members get upgraded to these rooms?
I can't answer about the full Diamond treatment, I'm only a Gold; but I did pay for the suite, albeit at a slightly discounted rate. In the two weeks prior to arrival I noticed the main hotel was totally full on a few nights of my stay (end of Ramadan holidaymakers), so I offered to swap two prepaid standard 'King Deluxe' rooms for a 'Conrad Suites Twin', which was the only room category still available; and as a HH Gold, they happily agreed. I'm in no doubt they resold those two Kings for some serious bucks, much more than the rate I prepaid for them back at the end of July. So, a good deal for all concerned.
Do they serve complimentary alcoholic drinks in the lounge? If so, are you able to order any free anytime of the day or only during certain hours?
I'm not a drinker, so wasn't really taking much notice, but during 'Evening Cocktails' from 5-7 you can have anything you want; and as much as you want. During the rest of the day I did see a bottle of wine or two available for self pour, but don't know about getting a beer or something stronger.
Do Diamond or Gold members get lounge access to the Conrad Suites lounge even if they do not get upgraded to those suites?
I was informed all Golds (YMMV) and Diamonds staying in the main hotel get 'Club Lounge' access. This was/is not the 'Conrad Suites' lounge any more. The 'Club Lounge' is now permanently in the space that used to be 'Spice' restaurant. Suites guests have access to either lounge but not the other way around.

Please let us know when you go out there, since we're heading out there at the end of May and will be booking a regular room as a Diamond. Thanks!
