Air New Zealand Air Points - Air NZ Pacific Business Class Seats

Hello guys,

I normally sit over on the BMI forum as thats where I hold my *G status but have a question best suited to you guys.

I have read very mixed reports on the seats and service level on the Pacific Business Class. I have on hold a LHR - SYD via HKG & Auckland in Pacific Business class.

Its either this, or SIN with the possibility of the new A380 on that route for more or less the same price.

So what i'm after is an honest assesment of the comfort & serivce level on Air NZ.

The sleaper seat sounds good but at 6ft 4 and far far too many kgs I'm not sure how comfortable it will be.

Any thoughts?

Ta

Andy

I find NZ new business class (which is what you'll get for all legs except possibly AKL-SYD if that is on 767 but there are other flights on that route that have it, on the 777) a more comfortable seat than SQ's spacebed. Of course going with NZ means a longer total duration and an extra transfer.

Thanks - if the Air NZ is more comfy I think I'm gonna do that, I'll need the sleep! ... Air NZ Looks like the same bed as VS? which should be good, if a little isolated ...

:)

**Irrelevant chit chat follows .....

Interestingly enough to get the SQ flight at below £5k a ticket, I seem to have to have a forced stopover in SIN on the RTN leg. Travel agent said aparently this was cos all the decent connecting flights were filling up! - anyway this basically makes the SQ flight time comparable to the Air NZ although the extra connection is going to be a pain.

The only slight hope I had re SQ is that all the people who have booked flights to try and get on the A380 will now cancel as its not going to be until next year which might release some of those seats and take 10 hours of the SIN connection. Then it would be more attractive! but ... Air NZ would be a new carrier for me and gets me an extra few miles to spend so thats what I'm going to do!

p.s. I checked out the Blog and it looks pretty good ... I've only flown 80k miles this year, but with your travels, you must be hating airports more than me! love the flying hate the loading! :o)

Air NZ's product is excellent and you're in the top class on the plane as well rather than being the middle man, as it were. Yes, the seats are (at the mo) the same as VS and the service/food/wine are very good - love NZ wines in particular. personally i like the seat alot but i know others don't and its great for a sleep.

Re SQ flights - have you tried booking direct on SQ's own website? I always do this and have never paid much over 3K for my ticket in Raffles LHR/SYD/LHR - just done a couple of random bookings and thats still the price quoted with no stopover hassles either and you get to select your seat there and then.

Again, i find the spacebed comfortable and i am usually able to get a decent sleep. Where SQ definitely win is with Kris World and WiFi on board (at the moment anyway). The NZ IFE is Ok but always takes an age to get switched on and then they turn it off ages before landing. KW is often up and running just after leaving the gate!

That possibility of the new A380 is getting smaller by the day it seems.

What the plane or the possiblilty? :p
I agree that the chances of SQ having the plane in service October next year are slim. They will be hoping for Christmas next year.
I had hoped that SQ would have the plane for March next year so I could fly it on the honeymoon....I and especially the-soon-to-be Mrs Blackcloud are happy that our wedding plans have not had "wiring issues". ;)

It will happen, one day !!

SQ will not be flying them til early 2008 in my opinion

I just returned yesterday from an LAX - LHR on NZ in Business Premier - is this the same as Pacific Business class you're asking about?

I'm 6'1" and the bed was OK. I managed to snooze, but couldn't get a great sleep.

Service on both the outward and return flights was pretty average. Crews on both legs were UK based - I don't know if this had anything to do with their lack of enthusiasm or panache. The wine selection was great, but the service overall was nothing special.

I find NZ new business class ... a more comfortable seat than SQ's spacebed. Our last trans-Pacific on SQ (with spacebed) was three years ago and on our very recent crossing LAX-AKL on NZ001 I kept trying to remember if the spacebed could possibly be any better than the new AirNZ lie-flat. Upon due reflection, I think NZ may well have the most comfortable business class seat across the S. Pacific route.

cheers,

Henry

That possibility of the new A380 is getting smaller by the day it seems.Sorry for my laziness (I know I could Google for all this) but...has AirNZ announced anything about buying any A380s? Is AKL to LHR (for example) within the capability of this plane? That would be awesome.

cheers,

Henry

No. The post was reference to comment about people who'd booked certain SQ flights in the hopes of getting A380.
