Planning next year's trip, and looking at some domestic flights, e.g. TUO-KKE via AKL and DUD-NSN via WEL, it seems that some of the connections are scheduled rather tight, 30-35 minutes. Would it be reasonable to expect the hold luggage to make the transfer successfully on these sort of connections? If not, how much should I allow?

Based on my experience, you should be fine. I've had many 15 or 20 minute domestic connections (from regional to main trunk flights) and my luggage always makes it. NZ domestic airports are generally pretty small and efficient.

Yup - I second that. I've even had bags arrive on an earlier flight than I am travelling on since I was too late to board (according to the cut off) yet bags still made it.
