Travel Technology - Sending a text message internationally

While in Korea I was able to send my wife a text message from my Korean cell phone. Now how do I send a text message to a korean cell phone from my US cell phone.

It does not let her reply.

I use ICQ 5.1 to send text messages for free overseas. Works great and even better, it is free.

What's your carrier? Can you send and get an error, or reply is not an option in the menu?

Assuming your mobile is in the US have her send to:

+15554441212

To get the + on the mobile you will likely hit * twice. The 1 is the US country code. The rest is your mobile's area code and phone number.

Send it to 01182+Korean number (without the leading 0).

If it doesn't work, why not may depend on the combination of carriers at each end.

or if noen of the above us 00 + the country code, area code etc instead of 011

If + countrycode number doesn't work for you, it could be a restriction on your phone service and you will have to call in to customer service to get it unleashed.

Or perhaps you have verizon which doesn't seem to send internationally (and to lots of Americans numbers).

US cell phone companies blow compared to their international cousins.

Alternative.. her cell phone should have an email address. Add her email to your phone's email (which, to my understanding is HUGE in Korea) and just email her...

I have a mac and the mac version does not have it available.

how can i use yahoo messenger to text someone's cell phone in korea? i got it to work to text my US cell phone whenit was set to the korean settings. i have tried putting 01182010******** but that did not work and then i tried 0118210******** didn't work either. and i also tried 01182******** just leaving of the 010. none of these worked. does anyone know how to do this that could help me very soon? thanks

try using +82 and the number.

From yahoo, it works for certain countries, but not all. Not sure about
Korea though.

where do i get this icq 5.1. i've had a couple of friends move overseas and have had difficulty since i am cell only and don't want to enable international options on my cell because it's expensive. so i hadn't been able to call them them or text them. for the phone call part i set up a onesuite account. i call when my mintues are free and just pay the 3 cents or whatever onesuite charges. if you're in a similar conundrum that seems a good option. now if this icq 5.1 works i'm all set thanks.

this is what i'm wondering now. i went to the icq site and it appears to only work from a pc. i didn't find anything you could download to your phone.
